| 21st July 2009 jen | neat! - From: Clipper Mill - What a Neighborhood I really enjoyed reading about your visit to Woodberry. I live in one the stone house pictured above and loved hearing another's point of view about our neighborhood. We love it here and think it's a special place. By the way, there are many talented artisans that have landed in the Woodberry/Hampden area. The next time you take the light rail down, take a walk over to 36th Street aka "the Avenue" (36th Street is the road that Chuck's is on) where many of them have work on display. |

| 15th April 2008 Daniel Nicolato | Treasures - From: Karlstein -- WOW, what a castle I went there too as part of an Austria-Germany-Czech Rep. trip. Indeed a wonderful castle. I took the guided tour trough the interior (btw a very informative experience). One of the tours (there are 2 options, if I remember well) took us to a display of part of the treasures of Charles IV. Among the pieces was a curious reptillian skull (according to our guide, now believed to be a crocodile's). Apparently, Charles IV believed it to be the skull of Saint George's dragon. So cool!!! |

| 2nd September 2007 Scott | Reflections from another visitor - From: Karlstein -- WOW, what a castle We just recently completed a driving vacation of the area. We did not pre-purchase tickets to the castle and did not get to see the famed chapel. Personally, without that portion, I found the castle somewhat plain and boring. Much of the furnishings, artwork, etc are gone. So, if you plan to visit, I would make sure to purchase the chapel tour in advance. Also, we drove, and used a GPS to find the castle. I strongly caution you not to do this. The village of Karlstejn is CLOSED to public traffic during the day AS ARE THE ROADS LEADING TO THE CASTLE AND THE VILLAGE. And unfortunately, if you do not speak Czech as we did not, you may fall prey to a nasty little trap. We were ticked 500 Czech Crown because we drove on the road and parked in what appeared to be open castle parking. In fact, it was UNUSED, but reserved parking for special occasions like weddings. We returned to the car to find a Denver Boot on the car with a note to find the police station or call. Having no cell phone, we were going to walk to try to find the station. Luckily I suppose, the police returned as we were beginning our descent into the village. It was an honest mistake and the parking was unused that day. For such a tourist location, it would have been nice to have a little more clearly marked signs. We studied international signs, but without being able to read Czech, we could not determine the particular signage for this situation. We planned to do quite a bit of shopping that day in the village. I have to say I was so frustrated with the situation that it really put a damper on the day and the castle. As a result we chose not to spend any more money in the village. We would have felt much better if the police had understood and been compassionate because we wanted to learn more about their community and history. They probably cost their village around 3000 Crown because we were looking for Bohemian Crystal and other gifts and souvenirs. Hopefully we will save someone else the same upsetting experience by sharing ours. :-) |
| 29th July 2007 Jameson Lewis III | Greetings! - From: Beautiful Ceilings I just wanted to thank you both for this tour of this wondrous city of my mother's birth. You are both truly a blessing. I am seeing the things I'd always so hoped to see, but never will, through your eyes. Somehow, genetically, half of me is still anchored in the Russia of Tchaikovsky's day and you have taken me there. Thanks again. |

| 8th May 2007 Vladimir | Castle - From: Karlstein -- WOW, what a castle Very interested to read of your visit and to see the pictures. Have been trying to find where Karlstein is located, as i would like to revisit for another reason - my parents and I were imprisoned there by the Nazis in forced labour towards the end of WW2, and managed to escape through Austria, Tirol and Italy as the war was ending. I am currently researching our family history, so your article fills a gap in the story. |

| 17th December 2006 Bill Mc Millen | Cranes - From: Medieval Crane It's true you can move heavy objects with cranes and pulley systems. We seem to be mystified at ancient cultures like the Egyptians erecting massive stone pyramids, temples and obelisks. There is no mystery-those people worked and obviously took pride in their work based on the long existence and condition of their stone edifications. We seem to think the wheel did not exist in Egypt-but there is no evidence it did not-chariots had to have wheels and so why couldn't there have been a crane used in pyramid construction? |

| 30th January 2006 Patrick | - From: Library -- mental work -- well not always My first part-time job was as a Page in a library. By Page I don't mean a sheet of paper in a book or a youth being trained for the medieval rank of knight and in the personal service of a knight - I mean a kid who put books away. And believe you me, it was a hell of a lot of work. First you had to deal with the Dewey Decimal System, which I don't think the Czechs use. Then there was the physical aspect, especially dealing with carts with stubborn stuck wheels. Follow that by the sheer banality of the setting of a wee municipal library - not exactly babe central, let me tell you. The most difficult thing was trying not to read books while sorting them according to the DDS, and putting them away. Patrick www.prague-spot.com/blog |

| 23rd January 2006 Melanie | Must have been Barbara's "Goodnight Prayer!" - From: On the Way --- Back to Prague Maybe you are getting older Bill (I guess we all are), but maybe you slept so well because of Barbara's wonderful goodnight prayer. The Meditation group lifted you up for a peaceful and sleep-enhanced flight. Paul delivered your phone report to me, and I delivered it to the church during sharing. Everyone was delighted to hear you made it safe and sound. We are now praying for warmth for you and Russia and other folks your way. And oh yes - your laundry is dry and folded. |

| 7th December 2005 Lesley Dickason | - From: Auschwitz and Brikenau My friend and I went here in early December 2005. It had been snowing and was naturally cold. We had on tee-shirt and jumper, trousers, boots, socks, body warmers and a coat hat and gloves. We were chilly but the thought of all those people here with virtually no clothes on was unimaginable. The journey here was one of mixed feelings. My grandmother was born just outside Warsaw, came to England before Hitler ran riot, but in saying that most of her family were exterminated by this most sickest of men. I felt so sad on arrival at Birkenau. The thought of living (if that is what it can be called) I cannot imagine, and my thoughts and feelings are with those who died and of course, with those that managed to survive and their families. |

There is a computer system underneath the statues, which processes a text message and then the statues will "write" the text in the water! And there is a certain phone number where you can send an SMS and the statues will "write" the message for you!:) It's pretty funny..... |
