| 14th February 2007 Jm | u r a master story teller ! - From: We Lost Scott by the Mekong - the Banana Trick failed...? Hey Andy, Read u all the way till now. I appreciate ur guts and enthusiasm. You are a great traveller and a master story teller too. great going. awaiting ur next episode.cheers. |
| 14th February 2007 anonymous | - From: We Lost Scott by the Mekong - the Banana Trick failed...? Things are really heating up, in more ways than one. I'm still lovin' the blog, and I think you've all acquired fan status long ago. Also, I like your idea of a memorablog site. If/when you get it off the ground, I can blog a written travel journal from 2000, to help get things going. If your site gets becomes successful, you may be surprised at the amount of income such a site can produce. |
| 13th February 2007 Bikepacker | From the author - BIKEPACKER - From: We Lost Scott by the Mekong - the Banana Trick failed...? Wow! I didn't realise you'd be so interested???? I've had a few mails concerning the loss of Scott - he's acquired fan status it seems. Sorry Bob about the comment that we wouldn't hear from Scott for a long while, hope it didn't spoil the suspense too much. That bit was added by me the other day and I shouldn't deviate from the original journal - you're right! However, I can tell you that there are a few surprises and that things don't go as planned - there are still troubles ahead.... So, I hope you enjoy the rest of the story of the bike odyssey. And Thanks again for the kind mails. ANDY (Bikepacker) |
| 12th February 2007 BoB | About Scott - From: We Lost Scott by the Mekong - the Banana Trick failed...? Is that the way it was written in your Diary? I think a bit of the suspense is now lost as we now know he is out of the picture. But of course I'll still read as this is the best bike read that I've ever come upon. |
| 12th February 2007 anonymous | Jackie - From: We Lost Scott by the Mekong - the Banana Trick failed...? OMG where is Scott ? Were you not really worried ? |
| 12th February 2007 anonymous | Dont go home - From: We Lost Scott by the Mekong - the Banana Trick failed...? Hiya mate, been checking ya blogs and you say you cant imagine life back home. Wel I travelled for 12 months with my girlfriend and I cant begin to tell you how hard it is to settle back into normal life!!!! KEEP TRAVELLING Andy |

| 6th February 2007 Susan, Stockholm | What an absolutely wonderful journey! - From: Out of Inner-Mongolia and through The Great Wall And awful in some ways! In Stockholm right now the north wind is blowing, its only a few degrees below zero, but I cant see myself camping even outside my own apartment. I hope you made it, if it was important to you. I will keep on reading, (although I should be working). To me, the most fascinating part is not the hardships in Russia or the desert, but how you all get along on the road. I guess thats real travel experience to me! And good luck on future travels, alone or in equally good company. |
| 5th February 2007 anonymous | - From: Camping on the Ho-Chi-Minh Trail - them Surrounded by Gun-Toting Rebels ! good blog, Laos really is an amazing country, never know whats next. |
| 5th February 2007 Susin | Wow! - From: Camping on the Ho-Chi-Minh Trail - them Surrounded by Gun-Toting Rebels ! Hey, I love reading through the other blogs and until now have never felt the need to write a comment, but can I just say WOW! You guys are the ultimate adventurers!! |
| 5th February 2007 ilovemangosteen | craziness - From: Camping on the Ho-Chi-Minh Trail - them Surrounded by Gun-Toting Rebels ! i've been dying to cycle through se asia. you guys keep it safe! |
| 4th February 2007 Charley Farley | Your Memorablog is Simply Brilliant - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! Yes, please write up your previous exploits in memorablog form. I'm not at all interested in cycling but your stories have kept me engrossed from day one! Thank you for taking the time to write them. I also agree with the previous comments that these tales would make a really entertaining film. Not unlike the motor-cycling Che Guevara movie albeit a little more uncouth (farting, drinking, womanising). Priceless. |
| 1st February 2007 ninee | Take care for your trip - From: The Great Push South through North Vietnam Your trip look not comfortable but you can touch with real life of local people. |
| 28th January 2007 contreras_alejandro | Go for it - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! Andrew, a quick note to thank you for sharing story and yes!, keep going. Its truly interesting. Best |

| 27th January 2007 Tom H. | Awesome! - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! Just read your blog for the first time today and I loved it! I'll have to go back to the start to get the full-meal deal. As for your previous adventures, you should definitely write them up. They sound amazing! |
| 26th January 2007 Marcoelitaliano | A good idea - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! Hello Andy, I have beein reading your whole blog when I was back home and I do my best to keep up with your new entries. I think it would be nice to read other old travel stories from you. Expecially East Germany sounds as interesting as only something disappeared can be. Marco |
| 26th January 2007 Marty | Don't stop! - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! Keep writing! |
| 26th January 2007 Bikepacker | Thank You Subscribers / Fans.... - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! It's a bit spooky to have fans.... But thanks for your kind remarks about my memorablog, I didn`'t really think anyone would be interested in it when I started it but.... I shall certainly be considering now, to dust off the old journals, scan the slides and write up the old crazy stuff I've done over the years, and stuff I'm still doing. Yes, I'm still out there on the bike - last year it was Canada and the US! So, when this 2001 Odyssey blog is over, expect something else to laugh over, however, I can't promise that it will be as funny as this one. And for you Jennie: How to survive being a veggie in Nam. Well, in Mongolia and China it was fairly easy. I had a Buddha on a neckchain and a laminated card I made with drawings of animals with red crosses through them. It worked a treat coz Buddhists don't eat meat there. But in Nam, it's a different story, Buddhists eat everything and I had to learn the essential food names. I look forward to reading your journal too. Best Wishes to you all, ANDYthe BIKEPACKER |
| 26th January 2007 Clint | More would be good - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! I've been enjoying this one immensely and would like to read of your other adventures. Well, except for New Zealand, as for some reason that seems sort of over done for bicycle stories. Also, if you going to add a wrap up, I'm really interested in the whole group dynamics, I've read bits and pieces here and there, but I find that facinating, also maybe an equipment section of a lessons learned section. |
| 26th January 2007 jack | memorablog - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! You should really consider contacting an independent film maker, may be even hollywood, to make your journals into films. Put in a few twists here and there and it will become a classic, surpassing ' Around the World in 80 days'. The world will appreciate Bikepacker more than Borak. How can you not laugh when you see a picture with a railway crossing OVER ON a highway. I was hoping your journals will never end. |
| 26th January 2007 Jennie | Crazy... - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! This was the best entry yet! I'm an American teaching English in Japan, and I read all of your blogs. I'm amazed at what you guys did. You should write a book! I especially liked this journal, maybe because I've been thinking about going to Vietnam for a while. I have a question. I am also a vegetarian, and was wondering how you got by requesting vegetarian food when you were constantly dealing with new cultures and languages? How did you know how to ask? Anyway, I have a blog too if you want to check it out. I think the name is Jennie T. |
| 26th January 2007 JayGuan | Go you go, Andy! - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! I really enjoy reading your blog. Great job. It would be great if you can recount your previous travel experiences. |
| 25th January 2007 Mimi | Yesss!! - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! I would love it if you wrote up your older journals! What a great offer for your fans! I have been thoroughly enjoying your London/Singapore Memorablog. Thank you Andy! |
| 25th January 2007 Tim S. | Great blog!! - From: Hanoi - Tomb Raiders, Rickshaw Wrecking, and Gay Love-Sick German Bikepackers! I've been reading your blogs recently from the first one, and yeah you should definitely recap your earlier adventures. Great writing, inspiring, and it's a great way for many like me to escape the boring routine of everyday living. |
| 25th January 2007 Tim S. | Hilarious - From: Escape from Kazakstan! - "We want your Sperm"! What a brilliant title "escape from cafe babushka"...that's freakin' hilarious |
| 11th January 2007 Clint | Fabulous - From: Racing along Southern Chinas coast - Destination: NAM I found the blog about a week ago, and am now up to date with the whole trip. I read so many biking stories, every day, and I have even written a couple, but this is by far the most interesting on that Ihave ever read. Having four guys, and all the drinking, and Russia and Mongolia, the whole thing is incredible. And even though its over already, I can't wait to see how it turns out, but when I watch a golf tournament thats taped, it doesn't hold my interest, interesting. Take care. |
| 8th January 2007 Gareth | Quality - From: Racing along Southern Chinas coast - Destination: NAM your blogs make my day go faster, u should right a book. |
| 5th January 2007 Jack | Macau - From: British? Portuguese? Chinese? - "I'm Confused"! My mistake. Just read your intro. Yes, it is ancient, but a good one. |
| 5th January 2007 Jack | Macau - From: British? Portuguese? Chinese? - "I'm Confused"! Are you telling us ancent history? The visas and stamps are dated 2001 and 2002. |

| 20th December 2006 anonymous | WoW! - From: "I LOVE YOU" - "TWENTY DOLLARS"! This is amazing! I just fell into your blog. How did you and your group decide to do this trip? Well I guess its in your earlier blogs, I'll get started on that and comment later on. Jeff |
| 20th December 2006 John and Sylvia | Thanks for the memories - From: "I LOVE YOU" - "TWENTY DOLLARS"! Andy, I have loved following your "memorablog". It takes a certain amount of courage and foolishness to do what you did but the feeling at the end - and looking back - is one of wonder that you did it at all. I travelled overland to Australia in the late 1970s, through countries it is really difficult to visit today, when there was no Lonely Planet to guide the way and each day was an unknown future. Getting stared at by crowds of fascinated locals was a daily experience. I only exploded once (and was ashamed afterwards) but the constant scrutiny really gets to you after a while. Thanks for bringing back the memories. |
| 16th December 2006 ali | what are you guys doing now - From: Mystical Valleys, Misty Mountains, we found it - the REAL China is here! I know that this is from a few years back . What are you guys up to now?? |
| 14th December 2006 A loyal reader | - From: Dudes - You will NEVER believe what just happened...! Yeehaw! Good times! Great entry. |
| 13th December 2006 anonymous | ouch ! - From: Dudes - You will NEVER believe what just happened...! I bet you have only just got rid of that hang over. That hair was wild swinging round in front of you, very strange. |
| 12th December 2006 Bikepacker | Thanks for the nice comments! - From: Guerilla Warfare - Bikepacker Style! Just a big THANKS to everyone who's sending in the kind comments about my memorablog on the 2001 England to Singapore bike trip. A few answers to your questions: Commie Beer: Tastes Good - Gives you a Hangover from hell, though. Publish it: Tried, but the publishers want you to do it for charity or cycle with one leg. Toby has written a book though, and I hope to include it on a new website I'm setting up. Where are we now: For you Jackie - it's a secret until the end of the trip. One thing though - we have totally changed since the trip and are doing very different and exciting things... I wish you all a Happy Christmas - it is your gift to me that I bring a smile to your faces through this journal. Have fun and enjoy the rest... ANDY GANNER (Bikepacker) |
| 12th December 2006 Antoine | A Student - From: Guerilla Warfare - Bikepacker Style! Amazing tales. What fortune! What fun! |

| 7th December 2006 Cory | Ah yes, the steps - From: Bike-Unfriendly Wuhan Hi, sounds like a great adventure you are on. I traveled along the Yangtze last year. I remember those darn steps, stairs seem to be everywhere in the Yangtze cities/towns... and with a bicycle, hats off to you. Oh yes, I also remember the toilets, wish I could forget! |
