Even though i'm actually an african I had never travel outside of South Africa in Africa. Shocking I know ! especially because its so beautiful. At work on tuesday i was invited to go to Mozambique for 4 nights and i jumped at the chance. The boarder was so relaxed they did not even check that the passboards the were stamping actually belonged to the people in the car (one person just takes the stack in). We also didn't have the log book of the car and they didn't care. At the boarder the tar roads end and its all beach sand so you have to have a 4x4. We were owing a boat and only got stuck once and managed to get out with not to much difficulty, but then discovered a dead puffadder under ... read more

From Railey we went Puket for night. but the ferry on the way lost Chloes bag while dropping people at some other island along the way, as i said we always hit trouble when traveling. But they were very good about it and had the bag back to us by 10 am the next day with everthing still inside. We stayed at the main beach; Patong and didn't think it was anything special, it was a little like bangkok by the sea. It was dirty and there were lady boy's and prostitutes every where. The clubs looked nice but we had had enough parties by then and so booked int a nice hotel and watched TV and slept. the next day we had to take a bus to Bangkok but we could not book without going ... read more

After Phi Phi we decided to make a much needed quiet stop at Ko Railay. So many people had said we must go a see this island and I'm glad we took the advice as it was really pretty. The bay is surrounded by huge cliffs which are super popular amoungst rock climbers, and sort of hug the narror valley's inbetween where the resorts are. Some friends on phi phi told us to go to tong sai beach instead on the main beach which was really good advice as it was far younger then the main beach and the accomdation was much cheaper. The ferry took us to the bay and then depending on where you wanted to go you had to catch various long tail boats and walk through the water with yours bags in ... read more

after another terrible 24 hours of boat bus boat we arrived at Phi Phi, it was better then i imagined but far busier as well. there were so many people that it took us 4 hours to find accomadation in our price range of under 1500 bahts. But we found a nice room that is very clean and has a flushing toilet but its 20 minutes from the port which makes it a mission to get to town quickly. there are also alot of gross smells on the way but we do have a really nice view of the beach and are on the tsunami evacuation route which is good i guess. any way once we were seattled in we went to dinner and then the next day we highered a speed boat with some swiss ... read more

After finally getting to the Island we just relaxed and didn't do much until we had dinner and heard some noise down the beach so we went to see what was going on and ended up ordering a bucket and watching fire dancers. This as it usually does here, ended up being a couple of buckets which ment we only got home at like 4 am. It was lots of fun and everyone was either really high on something, or hyperactive due to serious amounts of redbull. We met so many people, and swa the fire skipping rope for the first time, but the next day we suffered again. A bucket hangover is the worst ever as you cannot sleep due to the redbull and have to just suffer every moment. But by night time we ... read more

We decided to go and spend a night in Pai which is a small town a bit north of Chaing Mei. in order to get there we had t take a 3 hour mini bus ride on the road with the most bends in the world i'm sure, Chloe and Nicole both felt motion sick and the driver was crazey it felt like the bus could topple over at any time. once there we had to find accomadation and the first decent one we found we just stayed at. it was very nice and brand new but cost 600 bhts a nicght which was expensive after Chaing Mei. the town was so cute and very friendly and at last we had some good western food. because we had only had the afternoon and next morning we ... read more

I still cannot believe we have only been in thailand for 6 days !! We have done so much especially here in Chaing Mei. the hotel we are staying in is cheap compared to bangkok but still expensive for here but they have been absolutly great and have helped us with all our activities !. its only 400 bhts for all three of us. for the first day we went sight seeing to see all the temples, but we were convienced by a random guy to pay 200 bhts for the day and he would take us everywhere but instead we went to all the shops in chiang mei that give away pertrol coupons to taxi if they bring customers. some were intersting like the gems factory but it is not what we wanted to do. ... read more

Finally taking our trip to thailand was so exciting but also so scary at the same time as I had no idea what to expect and we had no travel arrangements. But as we arrived at bangkok we met two fellow South Arican guys who had been to thailand before and offered to show us the way to Khoasan road and to accomadation. This was such a blessing !! But before we left I decicoved that my baggage was lost...well just missplaced in the back of the plane somewhere... but it was sorted out quickly luckly! We decided to stay at Khoason Palace which was clean, central and most of all cheap. But we could not go into the room as it was only 8am so we went to a resturant across the road (Central Khoasan) ... read more

This was my last week living in cape town (well at least for a couple of years). I was so busy with habitat though that I bearly had time to think about untill the last day when i cried alot. I had to lead house 5 which was sponsored by Coronation a fund management company, it was the hardest most challenging, dirty and most rewarding thing I have ever done. The house was generally always on target and finished in time, but leading a new group of leaders everyday was very challenging, Ii had to use everything i have ever learnt and i think it went ok, well atleast Vuyela was happy which was the most important thing. I cried and cried when i had to dedicate the house and leave the township. any way after ... read more

Day 5 of habitat house 1 was crazy, we had to catch up all of the time missed due to the wheather, first we had to do the roof which was so much fun. We were hammering in planks while balancing on beams, we got to work with really nice community members/builders and broke a habitat record by finishing and entire roof before lunch. this was probably the most dangerous day of the build but luckly nothing went wrong, so of the volunteers where very scared of hights though. After lunch we then did the internal walls but I had to leave early again for work. Today we had to go through to the community hall in order to have a last bit of training, and to find out if we were crew leaders or not ... read more
