Today we bought tickets for a deluxe class bus to take us to Pushkar. On the way to the bus station we were nearly gonna's with the resident rabied dogs nearly taking a bite out of me and then chasing Michelle down the street - not nice!! To top things off i woke up with a cold - i thought you could only get colds in cold countries!! So had to make a dash to the chemist and stock up on vitamin c tablets!! So we arrive in Jaipur and finally - our prayers had been answered - thankyou everyone for keeping your fingers crossed - we have a DECENT hotel - thats right you read right, we're actually living it up in a hotel!!! Its clean and everything, even has hot water and toiler paper is provided!!! O the joys!! And with this new found hot water, i finally wash the linen trousers i have been wearing every day since i got here - yes i do ming, but the state of these Indian streets, i didn't want to infect all my other clothes!! Yes we had a mighty decision to make today - what time to get to the train station for!! Why i hear you cry!! Well....... You may remember i wrote about the lenghtly train journey from Varanasi to Agra, that wound up getting into the station 4 hours late!! Well this was the same train we had to get to go to Jaipur! When we left Agra train station when we arrived they had said that this particular train qwas always 3/4 hours late. So today we got to experience our first seventh wonder of the world - yep you guessed it the mighty Taj Mahal! We had breakfast at our shit tip of a hostel and could see the Taj - have to say it looks really unreal, its as though its hovering above the ground on a magic carpet! And it looks really out of place in Agra - what surrounded by filth and in a layer of pollution! The train gets in - yep you guessed it 3 hours late, luckily have gotten used to waiting for the toilet - the train toilets are even worse than the street toilets!!! Step out of the train station and into a rickshaw to our hostel. The streets of Agra are a bit grim to say the least but it gets worse!!! We arrive at the hostel and its a DIVE!! Our last day in Varansai was pretty uneventful until we went and got supplies for the train!! This little shop keeper who was 24, with very few teeth - of those teeth he still had they were all yellow - generally manky!! Second day we decide to get up at the crack of dawn to watch the sunrise over the Ganges. We get up, get ready and head to the roof terrace - the doors locked! So we head downstairs and yep you guessed it that doors locked too, so we go back to bed!! Luckily we left this hostel to move to another one where we had a balcony with a view to catch the ganges in action!! Finally we arrive in Varansai - if the train was bad the taxi ride from the train station was even worse!!! The drive should have taken us half an hour max but it ended up taking us 2 hours!!! There were 7 of us packed into an old skool taxi - a big white beast of a car. For a start off we don't think the taxi driver knew the way, he kept stopping and at one point we thought we were going to get ambushed - but he was just asking for directions!!! As per the whole of Delhi the train station was a nightmare - bearly able to move. We'd gotten there early as we'd been informed that Indian trains weren't the most reliable!!! We found our platform and saw the one flight of stairs for 1st and 2nd class and another for 3rd class! You guessed it, in the spirit of saving money we had opted for 3rd class sleep train!!!
