So yes sunrise at the lighthouse was rather nice, bit cloudy so we couldn't actually see the orange ball in the sky but the colours of the sky madeit all worth while! So a few hours down the great bumpy Australian highway and we arrive in Byron Bay and at our hostel the aptly named Arts Factory - it wasn't till after we left that we discovered Alex Parkes of Fame Academy fame worked here - though we didn't see her!! We arrive in the land of sky scrapers and surf dudes - Surefers Paradise of course. From the advice of people we'd met we're only spending one night here, and what a night we picked, absolutely perfect timing! Why i hear you cry, well my friends i shall tell you! Another early morning wake up call and we're on another greyhound on our way to Brisbane, on route we drop Neil off at Noosa and bid him farewell - again! So Brisbane - lovely city, little bit glam and upmarket - certainly not what we've been used to the last couple of weeks! After a delightful 13 hour journey through the night we arrive at Hervey Bay coach station, where i see someone i used to work with in M&S - small world, but he's heading down to Sydney, so i might meet up with him there! After a fairly unsuccessful stop at Mission Beach we head to pastures new, via the trusty greyhound of course! We dump Neil in Mackay while we head down to Airlie Beach and have to trek for about 15 minutes from the bus stop with all our bags - was more of a mission than Mission Beach!! We get settled into our new digs and go out and explore the strip! We get into one club and meet an aussie guy who we'd met in Bangkok - all very random but amusing none the less! On our way back from Port Douglas we spend one night in Cairns (where i buy a new camera and the guy undercharges me for it - winner!) we head down to Mission Beach. We get our first Greyhound bus of the trip - with many more still to come, we're gettingthe coach allthe way down to Melbourne!!! Got ourselves on a curteousy bus and paid a visit to Port Douglas, just north of Cairns. Came up here to do a day trip to Cape Tribulation, a little island full of rainforest and crocodiles and cassowarys! We have to get up at the crack of dawn and wait for this mad 4x4 mini bus type vehicle - its huge! We meet our guide for the day - Paul, he reminds me of a childrens tv presenter! But of course there was only really one reason i wanted to visit the sleepy city of Cairns - to dive in the Great Barrier Reef - naturally!! So today was the day - on dad's birthday!! Had to get picked up at 7am and sit on a coach with a load of ancients and their gay tour guide - was rather amusing!! On mum's birthday we take a 4 hour plane journey up north and arrive at our destination Cairns. We're greeted by a lovely Scottish lad and Canadian lad who i think take great delight in revealing to us that the Canadian was moved out of his earlier room due to a rat infestation!! mmm nice!
