| 7th July 2007 White Whale | Amen - From: Back in Blighty! The end of the adventure , back home on the range without too many mishaps I trust. Its been enjoyable seeing those parts of the world through your eyes, especially your research into wines, beers, spirits, well it seems anything alcoholic. Guess you can now sell this very valueable reseach data to one of the big multi national European brewing organisations and retire for life---if only. All the best for the future in the legal beagle world, know who to call on if need help, bye and thank you. |
| 7th July 2007 White Whale | On fire - From: Kids with guns Just back from hols (nothing like your trip) had a good time in the med. its good to catch up with you travels. The last blog sounds the most dangerous place you have been todatem just as well nobody felt shoot crazy at the time but goes to show more than one part of the world can be set on fire ! |
| 7th July 2007 The great wise one | Life in the raw - From: Kids with guns It just goes to show that in even such a happy go lucky country, like everywhere else in the world even Brazil as its dark side. You have I guess experienced a good many things which people who are more widely travelled than yourself have never seen, so yes this is all part of life's learning curve and I'm sure helps to make us better people with a greater understanding and tolerance of others and their circumstances. Round every corner there could be a ray of sunshine or indeed a pot of gold---look for it and remain positive, one day we all discover it. |
| 7th July 2007 Trailblazer | Back at the start - From: Back in Blighty! "Now we start at the very beginning" sounds like something from the Sound of Music-- Mary Poppins song. Guess the brain, legs, body in general is tired and you can not believe fully you are back, and the people you have met and the sights you have seen. Its one hell of an experience and I'm sure it will live with you for ever and you will recall these things with fondness. Maybe get some more cash together and in a few years have a bash travelling further north. Good luck for the future. |
| 6th July 2007 Trailblazer | Guns galore - From: Kids with guns Sounds scary you never know in a different land, different culture/language how people who are armed will react to the slightest thing, hence when evber possible steer clear of potential trouuble--you know what they say--you only die once BUT you are dead an awful long time. Keep on partner with those back packs |
| 6th July 2007 mother number 2 | You're back - From: Back in Blighty! Yes you are back with us and its good to see you - looking tanned and well. Looking forward to seeing all the souvenirs and photos in due course. The skydive video was fantastic. Well done on staying the course and finding time to keep us well informed. No doubt you have wonderful memories and may be go travelling again in the future (when the money is available!!). The End. xxx |
| 6th July 2007 mother number 2 | The Farewell - From: Out with a Brazil! Yes you have had a wonderful six months of seeing great places and doing amazing things, and we in turn have lived your travels via your blog and have been thoroughly entertained. We have been amused at some of the hilarious things you have done and how The Wise One frowned at the thought of all that drink inside you!!! Thank you Beth for all the wonderful postcards and for taking the time to send them to us and wish you a safe journey home. Much love J |
| 6th July 2007 mother number 2 | Not the In Place - From: Kids with guns This seems a rather scary place to be, drugs, guns, lookouts etc. It seems living at the bottom of the hill is not too good a place to be - must watch out for the folks at the top of this hill who may dispose of their sewage in a similar way!! May have to move! It seems the young lads there have very little choice in their life. Glad it was only some articles that were swept into the sea and not you!! |
| 5th July 2007 Nigel & Roz Belsten | Welcome Home - From: Back in Blighty! We are really going to miss your travel reports, so will be donating to the Beth travel fund, the cheque will be in the post. Hope to catch up with you later on in the year, did you take many photo's! Bye for now, Roz & Nigel |
| 5th July 2007 The Sage | welcome home - From: Back in Blighty! So you made it back , good to read your blogs hope for more in the future, thanks for the enjoyment of the southern hemisphere world tour, maybe northern next time ? |
| 5th July 2007 The Sage | Pick a pocket or two - From: Kids with guns You seem to be very brave taking the risk of going into the drug area, anything could have happened, still you survived hence the blog did no one approach you to buy drugs ? In the poorer countries it always seems to be the young who suffer the most , suprised that some manage to live and grow old be it they are not drug Barons. Keep up the good work |
| 5th July 2007 The great wise one | Home on the range - From: Back in Blighty! Glad you made it back in one piece with lots of tales to tell I trust. Maybe you can do what they call "sing for your supper " with many a tale or two or even three. Its been interesting following your travels, hope we hear from you in the future, good luck , well done |
| 28th June 2007 mother number 2 | The place to be - From: Samba de janeiro! Well Rio seems to be the place. It seems to have it all, sweat, drinks, noise, violence, shady dealing, dodgy clubs - yep sounds the place to be. Ha Ha. On the other hand, the scenery from the top of Sugar Loaf sounds stunning as does the beach - glad to hear you know your place amongst the pecking order on the beach. Shame you didn't manage a bargain in the market but it sounds a really great fun place to end your travels. Just off now to put on the Barry Manilow version of the song.!! Oh no I hear you cry. Much love J.xxxx |
| 28th June 2007 The Sage | Party time - From: Samba de janeiro! It would appear that Rio is just one big party reading this blog, so glad that younhave bought us up to date with your travels, hope your last shopping trip proves to be fruitful, beware of your excess baggage weight with all the things I'm sure you will have bartered for in your last market shop. Don't forget you cannot bring the Columbian young man back on the plane or any other of the people or animals you have seen and met. Have a good flight back and don't forget to do your last blog when you arrive home safe and sound |
| 27th June 2007 The great wise one | Rio - From: Samba de janeiro! It sounds grrrreat lots of noise, food, drink, sun bathing (ugh)party time, dancing, colourful-------just what some one my age needs to have in moderation, so I guess its a young persons city. So enjoy your last few days but take care now you are on the last stage of your adventure |
| 27th June 2007 Trailblazer | very cool - From: Samba de janeiro! This is so so different from your last blog, I wonder why you were the last one to get on the mini bus ??? Was it because of the after effects of the amount of distilled liquid you had to drink because of THE HEAT (some excuse). Hope you kept some of the yellow shiorts ? |
| 27th June 2007 Trailblazer | On the go - From: Top of the Flops Keep at it, but it doesn't get much easier the longer and further you travel. I guess you just get used to the continual problems and conditions, you know what they say---there is no place like home-( I think) |
| 27th June 2007 mother number 2 | party time again! - From: Top of the Flops Certainly sounded like a good party with more than the usual beverages it seems. Just been to our local Sainsburys where what did I see for sale - well bottles of caprini no less - in fact its flying off the shelves at a rate of knots - seems the word has spread from the other side of the world of its potency!!!! Just bring us back a little of the winter from there to supplement our pathetic summer - floods, chilly and lack of sunshine is what we have at present. We are on the countdown to the weekend and your return and looking forward to seeing you. Enjoy the last few days knowing what wonderful times you have had. Take care and don't miss the plane!! P.S. Does The Sage not understand the advantages of two mothers? |
| 26th June 2007 The Sage | comments - From: Top of the Flops Yes I guess words fail to express what I am thinking, reading comments from Mum no 1 , only 6 days left, so I guess fewer blogs, anyway point of clarification how many mothers do you have ? Or is this something you would not want to let the world know about---understand---some things best left unsaid. Now down to biz--it appears from this part of your adventure that transportation arrangements is not one of your strong points---be interesting how you catch the plane back--hope all goes well in Rio |
| 25th June 2007 The great wise one | On the buses - From: Top of the Flops Sounds like a bus mans holiday---Cliff Richard film---Summer Holidays have a good time |
| 25th June 2007 Mum no 1 | Oh Dear - From: Top of the Flops Oh Dear Beth you will definitely be suffering from alcohol depravation when you get home. You do realise that since you went Dad and I have become tea total. You won't have trouble with the No 9 now will you?Good Luck in Rio and see you in 6 days time. XX |
| 24th June 2007 mother number 2 | tea time - From: Aquatic Argentina Obviously you have caused your bloggers to blank out here as you have no comments!! Well you know me, I'll reply whatever. Now about this tea - I take it you get no choice of blends or were you just unluky in the one you tasted? Don't bring any back if it is so dreadful. Well it's Sunday afternoon here and the area round here is on high alert for a week today (not sure if we are evacuating (remembering the smelly socks from way back) or celebrating (the band is on standby!). Just off to get a picture to refresh the memory of a certain someone who left these shores way way back in January................the kettle will be on the boil. Take care J |
| 24th June 2007 mother number 2 | a right soaking - From: Wet n wild! Well the water fall experience sounded fantastic and one you will certainly remember. Must have been spectacular to see the rainbows through the water. I can imagine the noise of the falls. Seems you really got a soaking but I suppose no option really and no doubt you took it in your stride now being the great pioneer and all time world traveller that you are. It seems you had much more liquid on the outside than on the inside this time round!! Really looking forward to seeing the film of this trip. Nice to see such wonderful sunshine again no doubt. (Weather here not good). Love J |
| 23rd June 2007 White Whale | No swim for me - From: Wet n wild! No good for my namesake, I like the salt water, deep and dark good for a swim, no joking apart it all sounds terrific except for the getting wet bit, but I suppose no pain no gain. Have fun be safe good luck |
| 23rd June 2007 The Sage | Falls - From: Wet n wild! This sounds very exciting and I'm sure its one of these adventures that you have to experience first hand ( even though it appears you get soaking wet ) to get the full benefit from. Look forward to reading about Brazil on your next blog asap I hope |
| 22nd June 2007 The great wise one | Water - From: Wet n wild! Water, watereverywhere and not a drop to drink, this experience sounds fabo, I guess no need for a shower on the night, just need to wet your insides with a few!!!! |
| 19th June 2007 Trailblazer | Nuts and more nuts - From: Cheīs place! Guess you are now in the home of the Brazils, interesting to see if you can find any Brazil nuts, don't mean the people. Is it carnival time there, it always seems to be, music, dancing, drinking, eating, party time ? Hope you are enjoying it all--good luck |
| 18th June 2007 Mother number 2 | Fiddling taxi drivers - From: Cheīs place! Hope someone passes a few dud notes to that taxi driver but good for you getting rid of it (hope the bar man doesn't recognise you again!!) Poor show that Che Guevara's place was not made more of. As you say they are obviously not too bothered about him. Hope your sense of direction isn't deteriorating (perhaps you are a little disorientated visiting all these countries etc) and you can find your way home. Or try clicking the heels of those red shoes whilst saying "there's no place like home" and suddenly there you are - home (remember Wizard of Oz). Won't be long now. Enjoy the rest of your journey. J xxx |
| 18th June 2007 Mother number 2 | It steaks two to tango!! - From: Ready, steady, Tango! Those steaks seem to be getting bigger by the day and sound mouth wateringly deeeelicious. Received the postcard and noted that it was you on the picture doing the tango (who was that man you were dancing with) and is he coming home with you. He looks very interesting!! Hope you managed to pick up some bargains in the market after all. Keep on dancing. Love J |
| 13th June 2007 Betty H | Muppet - From: Cheīs place! awww nice to know youīve been reading about my adventures - even if you are a muppet!! Youīve got to buy the welcome home beers first!! |
| 12th June 2007 White Whale | Here we go - From: Cheīs place! Still sounds like you are enjoying the experience --good luck --take care |
| 12th June 2007 Muppet No2 | Book deal. - From: Cheīs place! Hey Muppet, just been catching up on your latest and greatest adventures..sounds like your having the time of your life...you shouldwrite a book when you get back :-) (after buying me a beer!) |
| 11th June 2007 The Sage | Hasty retreat - From: Cheīs place! Sounds like the name of a convent, with the film "Nuns on the run " it sure seems you wore of the calories when you finished your meal--was the meal nice ? Expect you didn't leave a tip. |
| 11th June 2007 The Sage | Bargins - From: Ready, steady, Tango! I guess it would appear most of the time you spent "Bargin Hunting ", did you do any good ? Hope your interest in Latin American dancing will help your future CV , now you have first hand experience. |
| 11th June 2007 The great wise one | Know your north and south - From: Cheīs place! Shame you went the wrong way on the bus, you had better take care when catching the plane or you might end up back in Chile, good for you with the dud note, what comes around goes around, I taxi drivers are in some instances the same the world over |
| 11th June 2007 The great wise one | Tango and steak - From: Ready, steady, Tango! Thought it was a drink--at my age that is all it means--you should have had ago--can only get locked up onc (maybe 2/3 times ) see you are getting the taste for good steak, have to loose that before you come home ? |
| 11th June 2007 Betty H | Home time! - From: Cheīs place! Cheers for that mum! |
| 11th June 2007 Mum no 1 | Cheere you up - From: Cheīs place! Hi Beth Just to cheer you up. Do you realise that you will be home in 3 weeks time? Make the most of your time left. Have fun xx |
| 11th June 2007 Mum no 1 | Wonderful - From: Ready, steady, Tango! Sounds absolutely wonderful. Think I would really enjoy it. Don't know if I'd get Dad there though! So you will be a big steak eating. Tango dancer when you come back providing there is alcohol to drink?? Have fun xx |
| 9th June 2007 The Sage | Cocktail;s - From: Viva la cocktail!! Seems you are joining in the style of B.A. with the smart set, cocktail or two or three then move on to the night life (or morning life ) don't burn the candle too much |
| 9th June 2007 mother number 2 (again) | - From: Viva la cocktail!! Thank goodness I am up to date! |
| 9th June 2007 mother number 2 | Six for one or half a dozen of the other - From: Viva la cocktail!! Yes his maths takes a lot of beating but worked in your favour - or did it due to the next day being best forgotton! Still, life is for living although he may not have thought so by the next day. Steak sounds fantastic - please ship some back to us as we are drooling with the thought of it. Yummy. Seems a lot of agitated people in Argentina with all those demos going on. Keep clear of the argy bargy!!! Love to you. |
| 9th June 2007 mother number 2 | Old friends - From: Hola Buenos Aires Meeting up with old friends like Mr Sickie Ozzie is the life of a traveller. No doubt he will make good use of the 80p beer - does it get any cheaper. Traffic dodging on such a grand scale seems rather scary and needs all your survival skills just to make it to the other side. Be careful. I can see a large steak looming on the horizon (no good being a veggie there is it?) It sounds a very up market place with abundance of wealth. Just the lifestyle you have been used to so far don't you know!! (Or so I hear from a reliable source). Sounds a magnificent cemetery and interesting to see where Eva Peron is buried. Take care. xxx |
| 9th June 2007 mother number 2 | Marriage? - From: Donīt cry for me Argentina! Mmm very interesting journey. You never know about marines. They carry pictures with them of the girl they will marry - oh dear. And just think you would have to make chilli con carne for the whole family all the while. Fun journey though. You will remember all these amusing times for years to come - carry on having good times. xx |
| 9th June 2007 mother number 2 | The great hill climb - From: The Lake District - girls on tour! What a feat you accomplished, really well done and as for mother number 1 thinking she would reach the top - not with her poor knees at present! Certainly a very busy time you had there. The hot spings sound just the thing after all your efforts on the climb. All sounded wonderful. |
| 9th June 2007 mother number 2 | - From: Pied Pipers! What a surprise today (22nd) I had wonderful birthday wishes from South America - my little one remembered - I was overwhelmed and send many thanks. It made by day. You are both obviously like Dr Doolittle in attacting all these animals. We hope to be given lessons in the tango on your return as it seems you have become somewhat of an expert. |
| 8th June 2007 The great wise one | Cheers--Hic - From: Viva la cocktail!! It seems you have got good value for money in the drinks department, courtesy of our old colonial friend----fly the flag, cheers, have another one |
| 8th June 2007 White Whale | 2 X table - From: Viva la cocktail!! It seems you hook up with the right folks--who are not sure about their maths, but Iguess this does save you a lot of cash. Seems you are still very active wioth the market research, moving more up-market ? |
| 7th June 2007 Trailblazer | On the move - From: Hola Buenos Aires You have arrived safe and sound keep it that way, lots to see and do over this side of the Ocean---many places still to be explored in S. America and things to be discovered. A little bit mind blowing when you think about in this day and age. Good luck take care. |
| 7th June 2007 Mum no 1 | Hectic - From: Hola Buenos Aires Sounds a very hectic city. You could lose weight by just keep crossing the road. Remember there are more calories in a Mc Donalds salad than in a beef burger!!! Food for thought. Never mind you will soon be home and the weight will drop of you . Have fun xx |
| 7th June 2007 The Sage | Beef steak and Beer - From: Hola Buenos Aires It seems that the diet is about to change for you both, good red meat and beer, that will build you both up to continue treking |
| 6th June 2007 White Whale | masket research - From: Hola Buenos Aires Well done admire your dedication to the market research of what the future may hold for liquid refreshment in Europe and maybe else where, don't let it take over the whole of you trip ( joke ) |
| 6th June 2007 The great wise one | 80p - From: Hola Buenos Aires Guess at over double the size too good to miss, you do not say what it tasted like. If you recall the film Evita was very popular so surprising that her grave site is a little subdued. Don't forget to get more in the team if you want to win the quiz |
| 6th June 2007 Betty H | Home cooking!! - From: Cool Chile I want them all in one go on my return!!! Canīt stop dreaming about food, especially a nice weatherspoons brekkie on the way back from Heathrow - do they have weatherspoons in Newbury? |

| 5th June 2007 Mum no 1 | Chilli - From: Cool Chile I was going to do one of my super lasagnes for your return but I could do a chilli instead. Then again we could all go out for a Balti. Just take your pick the choice is never ending. x |
| 5th June 2007 Mum no 1 | Listen to Mother - From: Donīt cry for me Argentina! You are leaving Chile because of all the Chilean marines. Obviously they are full of charm and you are completely taken in by it. Have fun x |
| 5th June 2007 The great wise one | So what a delay - From: Donīt cry for me Argentina! By what you have written it seems the delay was worthwhile, but are Chiean men good looking also ??? |

| 3rd June 2007 The Sage | Very Volcanic - From: The Lake District - girls on tour! Shame you dids not make the top, but a very good try, and lets hope no one is now eating cow pie !!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| 2nd June 2007 The great wise one | Only one word - From: The Lake District - girls on tour! BRILLIANT |

You seem to bump into various animals--fish--camels--dogs--crocs--elephants etc where ever you go, its like visiting the zoo, look forward to read what else you will see. No do not try to bring them back to Blighty--we have no room. Remember Dr Doolittle or was it Noah and the Ark ? |
| 27th May 2007 mother number 2 | Chile - From: Chilly in Chile!!! 90p a bottle sounds like pretty rough stuff - still it obviously gives you the ability to be able to dance - and without taking lessons - impressive! Does having two May 15ths mean that you will have lived an extra day during your lifetime? A scientific question that needs looking into. Sorry you are feeling the cold - keep piling on the layers and don't get frostbite. Today (Sunday 27th) is dismal here with rain, rain and more rain (Bank holiday you see). No doubt you will seek out the sun soon. All love J |
| 26th May 2007 Trailblazer | Hit the road - From: Chilly in Chile!!! Hi, it seems you have been to a few p;laces over the last few months, guess time flies when you are having fun, looking forward to how you find Chile and any other destinations in South A merica |
| 25th May 2007 mother number 2 | Goodbye Australia - From: Mountains, Operas and Irish bars?? Certainly packed a lot in during your time in Australia and going out on such a physical trek, well (not fit my girl!!). Good luck for S America. |
| 25th May 2007 mother number 2 | pastures new - From: Awesome Australia BBC cannot afford new series of neighbours and it is being relegated to another channel (4 I think). Have reports that you are now in S America and finding it not so warm as down under but expect you won't mind too much as its a whole new country to explore. Have a good time there and take care. |
| 22nd May 2007 White Whale | Chile--cool--cold - From: Chilly in Chile!!! See you are back on track tasting the "New World" wines, not bad ha keep the tasting notes safe so that others can benifit from your hard earned experience of tasting the World's alcoholic potions |

| 21st May 2007 The Sage | S.America - From: Chilly in Chile!!! So Spanish is not on the top of your lanuage list, I guess "how much" or "Quanto Costa" wil be understood in most parts of the world when you point too what you want ?? Good luck |

| 20th May 2007 The great wise one | Cold Chilly Chile - From: Chilly in Chile!!! Never thought that it would be that cold--is it their winter period or is it because you are so far South, next stop South Pole---too warm up inside you need warm liquid or spirits (dont mean the ghost type) best to stick with hot drinks. It will also seem far colder because you have spent the last few months in warm climates. It's very cold back here, I think the summer came in April and went in May. I'm sure things will pick up , Take care and good luck |
| 19th May 2007 White Whale | Goodbye Australasia - From: Awesome Australia OFF to continents new--this should also help to broaden your experience, I guess S.America at present is the least visited continent so still a great deal to be explored--take care |

| 18th May 2007 The Sage | Another continent - From: Mountains, Operas and Irish bars?? It looks like you have done most of Australasia--and according to the news its all still in one piece--now lets do S.America---take a lot of care there, watch what you carry about with you, and if mugged (heaven forbid) hand what ever over to avoid trouble--most likely no probs but you never know GOOD LUCK |

This cannot go on you are being spoilt! As for bouncing aroung after eating kangaroo you will note that this is something I do all the while after eating the same such meat several years ago. (Joke supplied by Arthur). Sending you Easter wishes. The weather here is really lovely at the moment. Much love. J |

I was almost mortified thinking you had not received any of my comments but the mention of my name (albeit in the latter part of your list) has redeemed you my girl!! We are all keeping well and have been out partying on several evenings with your immediate parents, you know the type of thing a few local clubs and the local scene (akas Bangla, Shenstone Club etc). Also we have joined the local cinema club which meets once a month on a Friday - the films so far have been completely rubbish so we almost can't wait for next month's offering!! Please wash your feet before you return and improve on that sun tan. |

| 16th February 2007 mother number 2 | jaipur - From: Shrek Tours To my dear trailblazer: Busy time in Jaipur it seems. Good job the rickshaw made it to the top - for a dreadful moment then I thought good god they didn't have to walk up did they!!! On your return you can join our newly formed musical group - we have space for a sitar player and have booked you in for some quick lessons ok? (mmm wonder what the next musical instrument will be). The secret garden sounds interesting as did the factory visit. So thats what happened to all those old sewing machines then. All love xxxxx |
| 16th February 2007 Betty H | - From: Au Revoir because your typing is o so good!! And for the record the keyboards were crap - most of the keys were stiff or buttons didn't work and alot i came across had bits of paper stuck to them with the letters written on! |
| 13th February 2007 number 2 bro | Keyboard wear - From: Au Revoir I can see by your typing that its so harsh out there they can't even afford keyboards with all the letters!! |
| 11th February 2007 Mother number 2 | To my Trailblazer - From: Au Revoir Just caught up with the journel. Glad to know that the French came to the rescue (hey shouldn't this be the other way round, as is usual!!). All these silk scarves you have sound fabulous (I think I have a birthday in May but I don't mind waiting until July)?! That camel story sounds almost believable as the story of the Zonky we met in Mexico. The owner wouldn't let us get too close to the poor donkey who had zebra strips painted onto him turning him into a ZONKY. Glad you finally made it to some good hotels after experiencing the worst but hey what character building and jolly good for life experience!! (Just so glad we are living in our 5* surburban dwellings with indoor toilets)! Arthur has now become an avid reader of your blog also and sends his best black country wishes - "stay safe our kid and have a bostin time". No time to arrange a wedding for next March so forget it. Looking forward to next instalments and hope you meet some more good friends on route. All love xxx |
| 1st February 2007 Betty H | Chai - From: Varanasi Chai is chai - although you can get earl grey over here but thats cheating! Michelle had a bit of a dodgy cup of tea the other night - it was meant to be tea bag tea but we're not quite sure from where it came! |
| 28th January 2007 Mother number 2 | To my trail blazer - From: Indecent Proposal!! What wonderful reading. I really feel I have been to Delhi and the places you visited - no need for me to go then!! Excitement or what. You will now be eligable to barter in Sainsburys on your next visit after all your experiences. I expect Michelle is perhaps hoping to meet someone perhaps with two or three shops - can't say I blame her! Just knew your journal would make great reading and am working on a publisher who may be interested. Take all care and enjoy your travels. |
| 28th January 2007 Mother number 2 | chai - From: Varanasi Just wondering in passing if your tea was plain old darjeeling or was there by any chance any earl grey. |
