| 5th August 2009 Jessi | - From: Aomori Friends, Meiji-Era Principals, and the Japanese Koto Mariko is going to UO? :o You think maybe I can tag along? I'm looking at going to UO for grad school, and need an excuse/travel buddy to check it out (: |
| 4th August 2009 anonymous | - From: June in Tsuru YAY! You got to go to FujiQ! I loved that park! I also did not get to go into the haunted hospital (>_<) . There was a huge line and we didn't want to pay the extra 500yen. Your study abroad experience was so much richer than mine! I think that I learn most about Japanese culture and family life when I was 17, not while I was at Kansai Gaidai. I miss you! |
| 4th August 2009 Sada | don't think like that! - From: Farewell to Japan from the Top of Mt. Fuji Ash! Don't worry about seeing them all again! I'm sure that you will go back to Tsuru in the future and meet many of them again! I first went to Japan when I was 17, and when i left I had the same feeling. But since then I've been back several times and have been able to meet all those people i love so much. It just happens somehow if you are really working towards it. I know in my heart that I will be traveling to Japan for the rest of my life just to see those people that had such an affect on my life (even if I grow tired or Japanese culture or whatnot). Right now I'm signing up for a TESOL certification program so that I can go teach English in Japan in the next couple of years. Maybe we will meet in Japan sometime! Though..I totally plan on coming to CA to visit you at some point (If I'm still invited ^_^ ). |
| 8th June 2009 sada | Awesome! - From: SEOUL; America, China, Japan, all in one completely different culture Flew to Korea to go shopping...that's so....Japanese! ahahah. That is totally awesome. You look like a hottie in all of the pictures by the way. ^_^ |
| 7th June 2009 Emily | - From: SEOUL; America, China, Japan, all in one completely different culture Wowwww! Everything looks so cool and the love locks thing was really cute. =) I'm so happy for you that you got to go, even though you ended up there on the day of the funeral. ^^;; |
| 22nd May 2009 julie slight | hi sweetheart! - From: A Christian Acquaintence, A Gender Class Friend, Birthday Parties, Music Box Museums Hi honey! I LOVE reading your blogs. They make me feel like I'm there with you and that helps with missing you ALL the time. I am constantly amazed at where you're doing. At your age I can't imagine being so brave and adventurous. YOU inspire ME! Your host family is incredible and they are going to have such a hard time when you leave. Please tell them how much it means to me that they are there for you and have treated you so kindly. Okay, enough for now. I love you honey and can't wait for your return!! |
| 2nd April 2009 Bill | Wow! - From: Yokohama, This Time With The Host Family You're doing such a great job with your blogging Ashley. Thank you so much for letting us hear and see about so many of your adventures!! BTW, I'm late on catching up, but I just read your tea ceremony entry from last Nov......WOW!!! What an incredible experience for you. |
| 15th March 2009 Jessi | - From: Yokohama, This Time With The Host Family Alright, let's go in order: HAHA MIHO-CHAN WOULD OWN ME AT COOKING TOO. Goodness. Make her your sensei >.< Jennifer just caught me what the kotatsu is yesterday! WANT. And the house sounds so cute .> ANYWAY. The elephant trainer is cute ^_^ Not my type, but I want to put him in a samurai costume! xD And don't feel bad about the age thing. I was in love with the members of abingdon boys school until I found out they were all 40 :P I just saw an avocado at the store and thought of you! I'd send you one but I don't think it would make it... |
| 14th March 2009 Emily | - From: Yokohama, This Time With The Host Family I feel stupid for asking this, but what's an okapi? XD Looks like you had lots of fun! Though the weather didn't seem too inviting. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. =) |
| 12th March 2009 Janet | - From: All the Snow a Girl Could Want, and More I'm right with you....It looks exactly like my first experience! What a beautiful place! |
| 4th March 2009 Jessi | - From: All the Snow a Girl Could Want, and More Omgggggg hahahahah I would hate the lift too! The idea of it has never made sense to me..... But I wanna see all that snow too!! *jealous* And hahahahah how typical is that for a love fortune? |
| 4th March 2009 Sada | Awesome! - From: All the Snow a Girl Could Want, and More I love that video of your first snow boarding attempt! I've never been either (though David is an avid boarder...we have his snowboard in our bedroom closet). I love Soba, too! I'm totally a soba girl...silly udon fanatics. ^_^ |
| 22nd February 2009 Jessi | - From: Tsuru's First Snowfall (for me at least) First: OMG SNOW WIIIIIII. I'm so happy for you :D Second: If you think about it, we have a total disconnect from America's younger generation ): They're generally more rude, have access to things like cell phones and the internet..... We just don't have cool keigo to prove it ): Hahaha. But I'm sad that Japan is changing.... Although maybe I'll be able to survive better with my horrible lack of oral skillage.... |
| 22nd February 2009 Jessi | - From: Miho-chan KAWAIIIIIII. I've been meaning to comment your last blog, but I keep forgetting -_- I'll do it soon. Yakusoku! Anyway, Miho-chan sounds soo cute. The whole family does. They seem like a good match for you :D And ganbatte with Kana-chan. If she's anything like American chuugakusei, it'll be difficult, but worth it (: AND YAY MAGAZINE + POSTER you don't even understand, you're my favorite person in the world. Squeeeeeee! My dad taught me that straw trick too, btw! I'll remember it when I'm in Japan, haha ;) |
| 22nd February 2009 BerkeleyAsh | - From: Tsuru Beginnings! Aww thanks Sada!!! ^_^ I'm seriously excited about living out in the middle of nowhere, despite how odd that sounds, haha. And if I find any of those old farming clothes I'll be sure to send you some. Thanks for always reading this silly blog of mine; I always read yours too; and I'm always checking for updates! I wanna know everything about Midnight Workshoppe! ^_^ |
| 15th February 2009 Sada | Awesome! - From: Tsuru Beginnings! Ash -- this seriously looks like an awesome experience! You are going to have so much fun! I have always wanted to like in Inaka! hahaha, I've always been in the city...yes...even Aomori is a city....but when I would travel to small towns around Kyoto I would always yearn to live there. I would love to dress in those dark blue ninja-esque farming clothes and plant eggplants all day! I'm such a country girl! The tutor system looks great! Your Japanese will be amazing when you come back. That was my main problem with Kansai Gaidai....I was put with other foreigners all the time...and had no way to connect with the Japanese students. You are so lucky! Please blog when you can...I will always be checking it out! |
