We leave the spectacular scenery of the Grand Canyon behind and head towards another icon of the Arizona landscape. Navajo National Monument is our first stop and is located within the northwest portion of the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona. Navajo Homes and a place to reflect the past Navajo National Monument preserves three of the most intact cliff dwellings of the ancestral puebloan people (Hisatsinom). The Navajo people who live here today call these ancient ones Anasazi. The monument is high on the Shonto plateau, overlooking the Tsegi Canyon system in the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona. The monument, located west of Kayenta, Arizona, features a visitor centre, two short self-guided mesa top trails, two small campgrounds, and a picnic area. We arrive at the preserve after a couple of hours and head straight towards ... read more

So with Las Vegas done and dusted and the group having got to know each other during the fun and over the top entertainment of the past two days, its was time to move onto the natural beauties of the Untied states. So we leave the hotel first thing in the morning and head to the open roads. The 165 miles today takes us about 4 hours and we reach the campground for us first night of camping. After the experience of camping in Australia and knowing that with the purchase of the Thermarest Sleeping mat in Australia sleeping would not be such an issue. The campground is a hive of activity with other tour groups in the same area, including another from Trek America. We unpack and with the midday sun beating down on us, ... read more

As with all tour groups the first morning means up early and meeting a new group of people that you will spend everyday and night with, this time for 3 weeks as we make our way from LA to New York. The meeting place was the lobby of the Hacienda Hotel that l have been staying in for the past couple of days, so after making sure all my stuff was re-packed and ready to go l made my way down to the lobby for the 7.30am meet. When you sit in a busy hotel lobby you spend time looking around to work out if these other people will be in the same group as you. After a few minutes l had scanned the room and worked out at least 4 other people on the Southern ... read more

The greyhound bus in the USA is another one of those things l have always wanted to do, just like traveling Australia in a Campervan. Cheap travel from one part of the states to another, as well as being able to take in some of the views along the way. This does mean that it takes a lot longer to get to your final destination, but at least your saving money! So with my visit in San Francisco at an end l make my way to the Cities Bus Terminal to catch the 9am Greyhound to Los Angeles. The 9 hour journey leaves on time and with a half filled coach there is even room to move as nobody is sitting nest to me. We leave the city and after a few hours we stop for ... read more

Another continent ticked off the list. With my work done in Tasmania, l left the volunteers house early and headed towards the airport for an internal flight to Sydney, before the long journey onto San Francisco. I made it to the airport and checked in, after a year of airports with loads of flights it was the first time that my flight had been delayed. Unfortunately this would mean a hurried connection for my international flight including a change of terminal at Sydney. But there was to be good news too, l had been upgraded to Business Class for my international flight so in the end l didn’t mind one little bit. The domestic flight left about an hour late and once in the terminal l quickly found the right terminal and even had time ... read more

I leave the mainland of Australia for the short 3 hour flight from Sydney to Tasmania's Capital City, Hobart. Hobart is the state capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Founded in 1803 as a penal colony, Hobart is Australia's second oldest capital city after Sydney. In 2008, the city had a greater area population of approximately 209,287. The city is the financial and administrative heart of Tasmania, and also serves as the home port for both Australian and French Antarctic operations. The city is located in the state's south-east on the estuary of the Derwent River. The skyline is dominated by Mount Wellington at 1,271 metres high. The first settlement began in 1803 as a penal colony at Risdon Cove on the eastern shores of the Derwent River, amid British ... read more

Another great tour came to an end and with the group ending its amazing tour in Alice Springs we ended it in style in Bojangles Saloon and Restaurant, see the great website that even lets you see what's happening live from webcams that are placed around the restaurant. www.bossaloon.com.au. The team was to go their different ways from the centre of Australia and that was where Myself, Sabrina and Lloyd were to start the next leg of an amazing journey too. We had hired a Camper-van that was to be our home from Alice Springs back to Sydney. So after another great meal and a few drinks to toast the end of this epic tour it was time for goodbyes and then the three of us made our way to our new home and at just ... read more

Whilst on the tour of New Zealand Sabrina had told me about the tour she was doing when back in Australia. Her tour was to take her from Sydney to Alice Springs. My next trip once back in Oz was at Leconfield Cattle Ranch, but once that had finished l had no fixed plans until late May so l booked myself onto the same tour and joined her in Cairns. This meant leaving the Farm a day early so l could take the flight from Tamworth back to Sydney then the 3 hour flight into Cairns. I arrived about 10pm and quickly found myself somewhere to stay for the night before meeting my new tour at 7am the following morning. Another Tour, Another Tour Leader and new friends On the dot, Luke from OzExposure arrived at ... read more

The 5 hour Greyhound coach journey was for once and real pleasure as there were only 10 people on the coach and once we reached Newcastle there was only myself and another guy from the UK named Richard that continued to Tamworth were l got off and made my way to the YHA about a 15 minute walk from the coach stop. From Office boy to Cowboy in 5 easy steps Our pick up from the YHA was planned for 10am so once up and ready l had time to take a quick tour of the local area and my daily intake of fresh coffee. Once back at the hostel Hilton from Leconfield Farm was there ready to take us the 50km drive through the countryside to our home for the next 11 days. What should ... read more
