Blyde Dam, is situated at the base of the Blyde River Canyon, providing a beautiful nature experience by boat. It is a great place to view the canyon from below, as well as visit the Kadishi Tufa Waterfall. At 700m in depth, the Blyde River Canyon is ranked as the 3rd deepest canyon in the world Once we left the jetty in a large decked boat the group made its way towards the man made dam. To see the river from the boat was a complete contrast from a few days before when we were high up in the peaks of [View Full Entry]

Day 2 of the Kruger Trip So up the next morning after a lots of drinks playing Blow Job and without a hangover (don't know how) quick breakfast and then pack to the Combi Van to go on to the Panorama Drive through the Drakensberg Mountains. So there we all were packed and ready to go and nothing. So after a couple of hours with many a know-it-all telling us what could be wrong a Car Mechanic turns up and takes the Combi away. So stranded in a remote lakeside lodge what do you do? yes you got it, go [View Full Entry]

If you go to Paris you visit the Effile Tower, if you visit London you go to Buckingham Palace. So it is only right that when in south Africa I go visit Kruger Park. Paul Kruger became President of South Africa in 1883 after the first Anglo Boar war.During his time as President he instigated legislation to conserve wildlife. In 1893 the area between Sabie and Crocodile Bridge was proclaimed the Sabie Game reserve, from which the present Kruger National Park has now been developed. Kruger Park is 380km long and on average 60km wide. The Park house all the Dangerous [View Full Entry]

So how hard could it be to shoot something After a much needed day of rest after the antics of Thursday and Friday night, Sunday was Shooting & Rifle handling for the Sunday lecture. So as for someone that has only handled a gun once in their life this was gonna be an interesting day. So first the Rifle handling lecture, not too bad as I could remember some of this from quiet a few years ago. Then came the shooting itself. First round of 3 shots missed every single target, in fact I nearly shot Mel, which was quiet [View Full Entry]

So into week 3 and there is still no letting up on the fun and laughter that is making this trip so enjoyable. Had a bit of a mad weekend, mainly involves a couple of drinks and Mel making me laugh so much my sides are now hurting. Wednesday night must be the highlight for me so far. The camp was split into 2 groups and sent of into the bush to sleep in one of the hides within the reserve. Myself, Mel, Stuart, Suzanne & Nicola were sent to the Zebra hide which over looks a watering hole. Once settled [View Full Entry]

The weekends at camp can become very wild indeed, and this weekend was to be no different except that this weekend started on Thursday evening. After packing for a weekend away Myself, Mel, Nicola, Chris, Andrea and T travelled about 45 minutes outside Hoedspruit with Adele & Bee. We were going to spend some time in a private lodge by the river. So once we arrived and shown to our rooms it was time to unpack the cooler box and enjoy a nice cool beer whilst watching the river pass by us. After a few beers I was introduced to a [View Full Entry]

Lets start from the very begining It just dawned on me, that all i have told you about are all the fun things that i have been up to since arriving in this fantastic part of South Africa. There is a serious side to the reason way i have chosen to sent 2 months on this project. First its is a conservation project to learn about the african bush and its wildlife, including not just the amazing animals, but also the plants, insects and weather systems that play an important part in a very fragile eco-system that me, you and [View Full Entry]

Hiking down the Manoutsa Mountain Today was gonna be one for them days that would blow my head away with the sights and sounds of the south African country side, and it did in more ways than one. After about an hours drive towards the mountain range the scale of the mountains was incredible, the size, colours of the rocks and the greenery of the trees will remain with me forever. It was a complete contrast to the African bush that has been home for the past week. First stop was at a road side cafe were we stopped for [View Full Entry]

Ok let me explain that. Slept in my bed the first night, second night was in the bush ( no pun intended) third night was on the look out tower, forth was in my bed, fifth was in town after a night out, sixth was on the look out tower. So much was happened in the past week i'm starting to find it hard to remember what days i've done what. Had a great night in town on friday evening. went for a meal in the Sleepers Restuarant in town and had Ostrich kababs and were very nice. Then a group [View Full Entry]
