| 1st December 2009 Nancy Lusk | Whole A - From: Cusco, Peru Ben Ja Min, You are looking like quite the seasoned traveller with your black tank top and wrist trinkets, long hair/beard and necklace. Loved the comments of parents..."Aren't they sweet?" Cool they got to visit you and you got to eat and sleep like a real human for 8 days. Ha! How is your dinero holding out? Amazing the 10 bucks will buy you a horseback ride, a fat lunch and many hand woven trinkets at the local mercado,no? Keep writing. Te extrano. Nancelita Prima |
| 19th November 2009 Aunt Lou Lakoff' | WOW !! - From: Cusco, Peru Darling Ben............. Your Mom sent me the add of your blog with all of the fantastic pictures and super comments of history, etc. I am so very happy for you that you can experience this part of the world. Nancy, Dean, and Pete all traveled many of the places you have been. I know you talked to them when you were out here for Bill and Ilka's wedding. Two yrs. ago I traveled to Machu Picchu, Cusco, and the Galapagos Islands. (Did not like the islands,.....kind of boring after a couple of days. I did get excited seeing the giant and ancient turtles, though.) I keep you safe in prayer. Be careful in whatever you do. Ask God to guide your footsteps, trust in His infinite care. Do not worry, have a wonderful time!!! I look forward to more blogs of your adventure. Much, much love, Aunt Lou |

I've had four letters and two phone calls from Chris so far. He sounds tired but upbeat. He's in the field now--qualifying on his weapon, doing land navigation, etc. When he gets his computer, I'll send you his email address. That should be in the second week of August. His classes start August 17. By the way, were the fish good to eat? |

How do you like the island!?! Talk about a land that time forgot, Jesus! Such a hilarious place! Took me 3 days and 4 different modes of transportation to get to the other side of the island! |
| 23rd July 2009 Alison Lakoff | Majagual - From: Beach Majagual Dean and I met there in 2002! We just went back for the first time last summer. An ozzie man used to own a hostel that isn't there anymore... I was staying there and he was staying at some random 2 bedroom place. The beach is pretty, huh! Have a blast! Wish we could've made it work to meet up in CR. Have fun with your new board (and wax!!!) Love the blog, keep the entries coming! Al |

| 16th July 2009 Ben Lakoff | - From: Isla Ometepe Hey angela... Not sure if my bro responded yet so you might get two of these lol... Isla ometepe is amazing... the volcanoes are super beautiful and it is pretty cheap to get and stay there.. As far as safe i would say it is.. we camped one night and spent two nights in two diff towns on the island... 1. Altagracia- this is the town where the port is for the boat to granada.. if you arent taking the boat dont go there.. not dangerous just nothing to do.. sleepy lil town... hostel was hospedaje ortiz... awesome cost $3. 2. Moyogalpa (something like that) this is the port town for ferries to san jorge ( the port nearest to san juan del sur) decent city with cheap eateries and stayed in hospedaje central 2.50$ kinda dodgy tho sorry dont have much info but the trip is def worth it ... ometepe is competing for one of the seven wonders of the world... let me know if you need anything else sorry our stay on the island was pretty limited.. ben |

| 19th June 2009 Nancy Lusk | Viaje! - From: Salvador Cousins! Love the blog and hearing what you are doing and imagining being in your shoes. Just talked to your mom today and she tells me you are headed to Utila. Jason and I stayed there and Roatan, about a week and a half total. Good for you for getting certified. You will see amazing stuff! Huge sponges you can swim into! Too bad about Pete's camara. I learned to keep all valuables in zippered pockets, close to my body, especially on market days and on the busses. We liked Roatan better and stayed there longer. It's a little more expensive though, but less hectic and crowded. Do a night dive if you can, since the water is so warm. Are the sand flies biting you to pieces? Skin So Soft oil does the trick and keeps them away and is not toxic on your sun burned skin. Copan in Honduras is awesome. We were chinsey and didn't go to the main museum there because it was 13$ or something(a fortune in Central America), but regretted it later. I would do it. Also you can take horses to other sites and ruins which sounded cool but we ran out of time. Give yourself 2 days to see it, you came all that way, might as well make it worth it. PS landing on the airport at Utila is knarally, a knuckle biter. Did you like El Salvador? Remember to be cautious in the ocean...stitches or an injury in a foreign country are not sanitary and will put a damper on your trip. Also...stay together and watch out for eachother. We love you so much. You will remember this trip forever!!!!! Andale! PSS I will tell Jack Johnson hi for you when I see him surfing. HaHa Love, Nancy, Jason,Cuyler and Catalina |
| 13th June 2009 stuart | yowsa - From: Salvador hi ben and pete. i'm glad you made it to central america, ben. keep living the dream but also watch out for yourself (i learned the hard way that growing up in indiana doesn't really teach one how to do that). tell me when all of you are in richmond and me and meredith will come visit- i promise! check out these sites for tips on cheap travelling: hobohideout.com http://www.travelblogs.com/articles/earn-5-a-day-you-can-travel-forever |
