Ben Jones - Ben Jones

Ben Jones Yesterday (1st April) we had our own joke here on TravelBlog, which seemed to pass unnoticed by all the members, but it at least amused us :)

Jonathan played the role of Central Asia adventure-seeker Ben Jones, who visited the Kingdom of Tatarwalistan and wrote yesterday's front page blog "Badger Stew and Pepski: A Toast to the World's Newest Nation.

Ali and Jo Trouble added this figment of Jonathan's imagination to the TravelBlog Database.

Mell underwent a personality change for the day and became spammer and troll Borat.

Team Turner was the photo alterer.

Messages received include: "I must say I was trying to find out more info on this "new state" and some google searches showed that Travelblog was the only source, so maybe your contact on the ground was breaking the news to everyone" and "I am very interested in that area but there aren't many blogs about the "-stans". I hope you enjoy your trip and to hear more from it!!!"

TravelBlog is a fantastic place to write a travel diary, but it's also a place to interact and make friendships with other travellers - either on our travel forums or by the "Add a Comment" option on every blog. We may not have fooled many people with our story about Tatarwalistan, but we had fun creating it!

But an old university friend from Uzbekistan emailed me the news that the province of Tatarwalistan had separated from Tashkent, and invited me to take part in the month of celebration that followed its independence. I adjusted my itinerary and made it the first leg of my Silk Route trip. A valid Uzbek visa was all that was needed to allow me to go to Tatarwalistan, but [View Full Entry]

Just a short note as my time in the internet cafe is running out. I arrived safely in Tashkent this morning and found my hotel (after getting lost several times). Tomorrow I set off for Timur's house in Tatarwalistan, where the adventure will really begin. [View Full Entry]
