| 13th July 2009 Stuart Duncan | Sports latest - From: Bangkok, Episode 1 - A New Country Mark Webber won the German Grand Prix and the first Ashes test was drawn, thanks to rain in Cardiff on the fourth day. England: 435 & 252-9 (105.0 overs), Australia: 674-6 (181.0 overs). England had to last out until the close of day four in order to save the game and just managed it - a really exciting finish with the last-wicket pair, Anderson and Panesar, scoring 28 runs between them. What was close to an innings defeat became a draw and Ricky Ponting was extremely pissed off, accusing England of "Stalling". Er....yes, I think that was the idea! Carlos Tevez has joined Man City (!) for £25 million (dunno how much that is in Bahts), joining Roque Santa Cruz and you probably know that Ronaldo left ManU for Real Madrid for enough money to clear the national debt of Togo. |

The game ended 4-4, but that made it 7-5 on aggregate. Arsenal sailed through 4-1 on aggregate against Villareal and ManU will play them after beating Porto 1-0 away after the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. Barcelona will meet Chelsea after beating Bayern Munich 5-1 overall. Everton beat ManU on penalties to book an FA Cup final place against Chelsea. It served Ferguson right; he almost fielded his reserve team and was punished for his lack of respect. Snooker Steve Davis lost 10-2 in his first round match against Aussie Neil Robertson, but the big 2nd round casualty was Ronnie O'Sullivan, beaten 13-11 by Mark Allen (NIrl) after being well ahead at the interval. Nigel Bond also went out after beating Peter Ebdon in round 1, where Stephen Hendry beat Mark Williams 10-7. Hendry looks the man in form. Have a good time in Shanghai (massive place). |
| 12th April 2009 Stuart | Sports and email - From: Coorg - Honey Valley Hi Dan and Becks My email won't send from home at the moment, but I hope this gets through. I liked Hong Kong when I was there as well, very exciting place. I don't know much about F1 but, apparently, Ross Brawn had become Honda's F1 technical director in 2008 and bought the team from Honda - turns out that much of the money came from Virgin as Branson is keen to get into GP and is bank-rolling the team, I think. Brawn thought that the car Honda was developing was potentially the best in GP and it turned out to be true. Button and Barrichello got 1st and 2nd in Oz and Button won in Malaysia. Lewis Hamilton was initially promoted to 3rd and then got disqualified for telling lies about the circumstances. Sorry, I don't know all the ins and outs except that Hamilton is making himself less popular and Jensen Button's star is in the ascendant. World Snooker Championship. The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield 18th Apr-4th May 2009. I thought I sent you a final report on the cricket (sorry). England had two jammy wins but deserved to win the decider thanks to Andrew Flintoff, who took 5-19 including a hat-trick. He is still unfit, but was brilliant on that day. Soccer: ManU have had some inconsistent results, but scraped home 2-1 at Sunderland, after a late show 2-1 against Villa. The winners in both games were scored by Federico Macheda, a 17yr old Italian striker. All the other big 4 teams scored 4 on saturday, but Chelsea were 4-0 up against Bolton and ended up scraping home 4-3. Bizarre! 1 Manchester United 31 13 1 1 9 4 3 33 71 2 Liverpool 32 10 6 0 10 4 2 38 70 3 Chelsea 32 9 5 2 11 2 3 35 67 4 Arsenal 32 9 5 2 8 5 3 26 61 5 Aston Villa 31 5 7 3 10 0 6 6 52 6 Everton 31 7 5 4 7 4 4 13 51 West Ham 7th on 44 pts, so the top 4 look settled, as do 5th and 6th In the Champions League, Chelsea won their ¼ final first leg 3-1 at Liverpool, Arsenal drew 1-1 at Villareal and ManUtd drew 2-2 at home to Porto (who looked really good, so it could be tough for them next week. Barcelona won the other ¼ final 4-0 against Bayern Munich. |

| 27th March 2009 Stuart | Sports report - From: Holiday Suddenly, the title race is hotting up. Liverpool beat ManU 4-0 away and then beat Villa 5-0 (Gerrard hat-trick) while Utd lost 2-0 to Fulham. Wayne Rooney got sent off for petulance and punched the corner flag. Arsenal are improving, so the top 4 is now the usual, Manu, L'pool, Chelsea, Arsenal, followed by Villa and Everton, with Wigan 7th! Utd are one poinrt ahead with a game in hand. England play Slovakia in a friendly on Saturday, followed by a world cup qualifier against the Ukraine on Wednesday. England won a cricket match! They beat the West Indies in a one-day game, but only because the Windies' coach got confused about the Duckworth-Lewis method and came off for bad light when they could have won if they had stayed on. Normal service was resumed when England lost the 2nd ODI by 21 runs, despite a century by Andrew Strauss. |
| 19th March 2009 Sachin | Re: THIS NEXT STATEMENT IS NOT DIRECTED AT FRIENDS OR FAMILY- - From: Kolkata (Calcutta) The above statement made for some disturbing reading indeed, only and only because you had to write it. However, I think I probably know the reason for it too. As a tourist one can write what one feels, without feeling apologetic about it. And yes, thanx a lot for also writing so many good things about India, which was good to read and glad you also enjoyed your stay in India. Have a nice stay and India looks forward to see you again. Best of luck and God bless !! |
| 16th March 2009 Mark Carter | the carter is here - From: Darjeeling hey buddy's my eyes are sore from all the reading, sounds like your having an eventful time of it. Big old place india sounds great, glad u went on the trip thinked you were long due it. amir khan beat seven time world champion barrera and was running his mouth even though barrera clashed heads in first round and fight got called off because he couldn't see due to constant blood in his eyes, enzo macrenelli got KO'd in a big shock. big show has been having a bit of vicky g you shoud of seen edges acting when he found out, pure genious. wrestlemania, taker v michaels - cena v edge v big show - triple h v orton, quality story with triple h and orton who beat up hunters wife stefanie mcmahon and now hunters gone mental - m hardy v j hardy, big story bout matt jelous of jeff am missing the cheese and wine nights its just been me and waz recently england jus got whipped in 20-20 by west indies. by 6 wickets rusty the manager at blacks only just found out, happy days, job is going well have applied to be a regular as well just bought toyota rav4 a 4x4 tinted windows leather interior, its gangsta.lol look forward to hearing more from you both in the blogs will be in touch xxx |
| 15th March 2009 Stuart Duncan | Holi moley - From: Kolkata (Calcutta) Hi Dan and Becks I was in Mumbai for Holi and still remember it (although it was >30 yrs ago). Celtic beat Rangers 2-0 aet in the CIS Cup (league cup). Liverpool beat Man Utd 4-1 away to put a bit of doubt into the Premer League title race and Villa just lost 2-1 at home to Spurs. Arsenal beat Blackburn 4-0, Arshevin scoring his first for them. Standings: 1. Man Utd 28 +33 65pts 2. Liverpool 29 +24 61pts 3. Chelsea 28 +32 58pts 4. Arsenal 29 +19 52pts 5. Ast Villa 28 +13 52pts 6. Everton 29 +10 48pts. West Brom look in big danger with 22 points, but only 6 points separate 11th and 19th place. All four english teams are through to the last 8 of the Champions League (Liverpool the most impressive with a 5-0 aggregate over Real Madrid). Cricket: England: 546-6 & 237-6 West Indies: 544 & 114-8. England came very close to squaring the series in the final test at Port of Spain, Trinidad, which included 7 centuries. It was, in the end, a heroic failure, as two tests had seen England come within a couple of tail-enders' wickets of winning. Hope you enjoy your chill guys :o). |

| 8th March 2009 Stuart | Sports report - From: Haridwar, Rishikesh and Musoorie Sports Report - Forgive the delay! Footy: Only Liverpool of the big four are out of the FA Cup (knocked out by Everton in 6th round replay) and the Semis are Everton vs Man Utd and Chelsea vs Arsenal/Hull. Eduardo is back for the Gunners after a year out and has scored twice in as many games. Man Utd won the Carling Cup on penalties against Spurs (0-0 AET). They are still on target to win five major trophies including the World Club Championship and the Carling Cup which they have already won, with the Premiership looking like theirs with only Chelsea (under new short-term manager Guus Hiddink) looking like challengers. Table: 1st Manchester United Pld 27 Pts 65 2nd Chelsea Pld 28 Pts 58 3rd Liverpool Pld 28 Pts 58 4th Aston Villa Pld 28 Pts 52 5th Arsenal Pld 28 Pts 49 6th Everton Pld 28 Pts 45 Cricket: Oh my God….. 2nd Test (Antigua): Lasted about 10 balls (!) as the pitch was deemed unsuitable. This was at the new ground built with Sir Alan Stanford’s money - he is now under investigation for massive fraud. 3rd Test (Antigua): Hastily arranged in 48 hours at the old test ground to replace the 2nd test. England amassed 566-9 dec and bowled out the Windies for 285, but managed to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory as Strauss did not enforce the follow-on. England laboured to 221-8 before declaring, giving them four sessions to bowl out the home side for less than 502. They managed nine wickets before the umpires offered the light with the sun shining. The Windies accepted gratefully for an undeserved draw to stay one-up in the series. How to lose a test when scoring almost 200 more than the opposition! 4th Test (Barbados): England declared on 600-6, but the Windies trumped them with 749-9 dec (Sarwan 291), but couldn’t get quick England wickets, so a draw was inevitable. 5th Test (Trinidad): Looks more interesting and England need to win to square the series. Strauss, Collingwood and Prior all hit centuries as England declared on 546-6 and the Windies are 323-4 at the close of day 3 (Gayle got 100 before retiring hurt). England need a flat pitch to crumble quickly to have a chance of getting a result. It has been a batsman’s series - not one bowler has averaged under 20 per wicket. Athletics: Drugs cheat Dwain Chambers stormed to 60m Gold today in the European indoor championships after causing a storm with his autobiography. Golf: Tiger Woods starts his comeback - look out the rest. |
| 24th February 2009 Thomas Oliver | Hello. How to upload Pics. - From: Haridwar, Rishikesh and Musoorie Well hello there, I am glad that you are enjoying your travels and doing some really interesting thing. Just to let you know Fame was really good, Ben managed to perfect the Jew quite well, along with his dancing, and his hair was probably bigger than mine!! Overall good fun and Rusty and that lot went to see him on the Tuesday night. I thought I better come to your rescue about how to put pictures on the blog. Firstly go to the blog that you want to put pictures in, do this by clicking on ‘List Entries’ on the main home page from when you log on, next to ‘Add Entry’. Then click on the ‘Photos’ button which is next to the blog you want to add them to. Next read that page and see which way you want to upload your photos, there are three options, I would probably go for the last one which is ‘Add an Image’ as it’s the least hassle, although does take a bit longer, so do whatever you have time for. Then in the pop up window (this is for ‘Add an Image’) just find the photo location on the pen drive and upload. That should work but if not then let me know. I hope to see lots of pics of Chewy!! Enjoy Tom |

| 30th January 2009 Stuart | Food & Sport - From: Udaipur Really glad that you are doing the street food thing - it is the best thing in India IMHO and you are right to appreciate the generosity of a lot of indians. Sportsflash :o) Australian Open Semi-final latest: R NADAL Spa v F VERDASCO Spa 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-2) 6-6 Winner to play Federer. Serena Williams and Dinara Safina will fight for the world number one ranking in the final of the Australian Open after wins in Melbourne on Thursday. West Indies A (the reserves!) were 343-2 at close of play vs England. Footy: Too much too tell - loads of transfers (Heskey, Mido, Defoe, Savio, Keane(?), Nolan, Palacios, Roque Santa Cruz (?), Chimbonda, Bellamy, Bullard) and ManU stretching their lead (10 clean sheets in a row - a premier league record) while Liverpool are drawing EVERY game while Chelsea and Aston Villa look like overtaking them! Let me know if there are particular sports and/or teams that you want or don't want to know about. Can't find the Netball and Croquet scores - sorry Bex (just kidding)! |

| 24th January 2009 Stuart | Mumbai etc - From: Last bit of luxury!! Hi Dan and Bex I am very envious but pleased that you are doing this. Mumbai is amazing...don't be in too much of a rush to get out as it is a very interesting place. Andy Murray just got through his 3rd round match in the Oz Open by beating Jurgen Melzer of Austria 7-5, 6-0, 6-3: he plays Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the 4th round. ManU are top of the Prem league, just ahead of Liverpool, who keep drawing matches. Aston Villa and Chelsea are well behind with Arsenal and Everton further back. Cricket: England have agreed to release players for three weeks this Autumn to play in the IPL in India. Thus endeth the sports lesson...enjoy India and don't be too scared of the food! |
