Getting robbed stories? Hi Reebs...I love love love your journal entries. I often laugh outloud at your hilariousness...anyway...speaking of being robbed or almost being robbed (ok, no one was talking about almost being robbed but I'm going to...ok?) Wes and I were in Barcelona recently and were continually told about the pick-pocketers on Las Ramblas...so we were on the look out...and low and behold, while waiting at a red light, I spotted what looked like a robber creeping up to Wes in manner of Micheal Jackson in Thriller ready to grab his goods...(his wallet of course, otherwise would be whole other problem)...anyway, I ended up spotting him in manner of detective and pulled Wes to side saving day, wallet, and said goods. While this man perhaps was trying to wave to a friend or merely try out a new dance move...I have to say was still good feeling "saving day"...(and goods). Feel I need to share this story to point out that while you were robbed...I wasn't...so there you go...don't worry, it happens to all of us...oh, except me... I must admit though, your robber sounds very sneaky while mine was clearly a rookie...tiptoeing like Micheal with hands clawed in readiness wasn't exactly conspicuous...miss you and can't wait to see you soon...smiles and laughs...lots of love, Libby
Always finding trouble Keep up the blogs they are awesome. Have you done any photography courses before because your shots are amazing. Anyway enjoy the ass end of your travels and keep in touch
I was also robbed Hi Rebecca,
Fascinating story. I really enjoy reading your journals and viewing the photos. They help me live vicariously through your travels. I feel like I’m traveling the world -- for free!
Your story about being robbed reminded me of my experience back in the early 80s when Pat (my sister) and I traveled through northern Europe together. We were in Brussels at an amusement park playing games for prizes. The one game that got my interest was an archery game where you can win bottles of wine. Since I took archery at summer camp, I set up shop at one of the archery booths in hopes of winning that evening’s beverages.
While traveling through Europe, Pat and I were always worried about being robbed so I decided to keep a décor wallet in by back pocket (with no ID, cash or credit cards) and a money belt with all my ID, cash and credit cards hidden under my pants. That evening, however, I decided the décor wallet was easier to access to hold a few small bills.
After winning several bottles of wine and being totally focused on my next target, someone bumped into me ever so slightly. I didn’t pay much attention as there were people all over. Unfortunately, about an hour later, I noticed my wallet was gone including the few small bills.
Important lesson for me -- convenience can cost.
Thanks again for sharing your memoirs. They are exciting reading.
Enjoy and be safe.
Steve
Hi Rebecca--It's great to hear that you still have your sense of humour intact. I loved your attempt at meditation. Have you tried again? We're off to the traditional Ottawa Easter next week. We'll miss you!
Be safe and enjoy! love Kathy

Amazing! Hi Rebecca--Thanks for sharing such moving experiences. I can only think of superlatives to describe my reactions--unreal, wow, unbelievable....Carry on! I can only imagine how much you are learning about life! Take care, travel safely and see you soon!
I chocked on my dan-bing... Wow, Rebecca. I just strolled in from Saturday morning Pump class and started reading your post as I'm stuffing my face with dan-bing. I know. Totally defeats the purpose. Meh! Anywho, I wasn't expecting such graphic details so soon in your trip! :S I love how strong-willed you are, most people would've probably passed out or ran away by then. I've grown to admire your compassion and selflessness here in Taiwan and I know those people in the streets of Kalkata are in great hands. You're making a difference hun, always keep that in mind and you'll feel empowered to keep going. Big Hugs...
hey you ,
Seems like you have been too busy to post blogs lately. I miss them cuz everytime I read one I laugh histerically. You take some really great pictures too. It seems like every time I take a trip somewhere my pictures turn out terrible. I'm glad you have enjoyed your time in Taiwan and I can't wait to see you back in O-town soon. You have to fill me in on what happened to you in Laos....going to the hospital. Seems like I am not the only one you didn't tell either....sneaky. Anyways, take care and I'll see you soon....love you xoxox
Laos...the land of cakes and buffalo skin Reebs, so glad that you and Jake loved Laos -- the ppl are so great, and although I am surprised that christie didn't touch on it, I am sure that you got your fix of Friends TV episodes in VV -- aka canned laughter 24/7 at every corner. I also hope that your comment in your blog about VV not being touristy was sarcastic...cause i know when I was there I did NOT see any locals paying to float down a river on innertubes......Keep having fun and have a safe trip to India!
Hospital??? Roo - you're holding out on us! You never told me about the hospital visit in Laos - now I'm wondering what else you haven't told us! Sounds like you had a great trip and the two photos you did post are breath-taking. We're definitely all looking forward to your return home - and don't worry - we'll all go to the Barrhaven Swiss Chalet to celebrate!
It's Over??? Hi Rebecca--I am definitely going to miss your most entertaining and enlightening blogs. You have a "voice" that certainly grabs attention. Thanks for sharing all of your adventures. Looking forward to seeing you soon!--Carpe Diem--Kathy
laos is goodtimes ahhh...whiskey and some kind of cured animal skin in lao..i know heather and i will never forget that either...glad you loved it - let's open a place to eat and drink 'special milkshake' and watch movies with 25 of your closest friends. love you and miss you - can't wait for you to come home. c-dawg
So great to hear from you again, Rebecca! Everytime I read your blogs, I laugh my ass off in my little cubicle and wish I was with you on these crazy adventures you have ;-)
Keep on trekking - but I really look forward to seeing you back in Ottawa someday!

Bet you wish you had a shark costume too... Awww! Those kids are so adorable! I bet you'll miss them, now that they've graduated and you've got new kids. And I bet when the new kids graduate, you'll miss them too. It's really cool that you're doing this. I love reading about all your adventures. Keep 'em coming!
School Daze.... Upon reading your last blog I could not help be reminded of the play that we "starred" in. If I remember clearly you were student #3 and I played Jose Rodrigez. I don't recall being yelled at but some members of the cast sure did!!! "Put your shoes on, you're gonna get some slivers" (Mrs. Whiting) or "Mr Fletcher, listen I don't have time for your nonsense...I'm trying to direct a production here"(Bob Hunt Director). SCHOOL DAZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you are hilarious... hi reebs - the journal is too funny..i especially liked this one - the pics of you and the kids are so cute. i am sure that you are a natural teacher, and i can tell that you are really great with them. p.s. i MISS everything asian...too bad someone doesn't slip me a ticket to taiwan...KIDDING :):):) i would have loved to come visit.
talk soon* cj.
Pee eggs Mmmm ... The eternal question when sitting down to dinner in China or Taiwan: "what is this, and do I really want to eat it?"
Great to see you're having a such a good time, Rebecca. Swimming with hammerheads sounds cool! Another thing to add to the "must do in life" list.
You got me curious about the horse urine eggs. In case you can't get out of eating one sometime, keep in mind that it's a myth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_egg). But stick to your story anyway! Not sure anyone reading your blog would step up to eat a black egg in your place if you gave them a chance.
Looking forward to more of your tales!
Were the Eggs Hard or Soft Boiled?? Hi Rebecca--Your adventures continue! Thanks for sharing them with us. I think I missed the two legged dog Oprah episode. Too bad. Did your mom see it?((-: Cycling sounded fabulous. You'll be ready for triathalons when your return! Great to hear that you are taking in so much over there! Cheers--Kathy
Teacher/Traveller Becks Hi Rebecca! I've had a great time reading your journals! I got Shannon to read them when I was in New York recently and she loved them and was going to sign on. Matt already is getting them. The journal about your class of Kgn children was so much fun to read -- made me recall my Kgn teaching days! I hope your new teaching position is equally inspiring. You no doubt will return to Canada in super fit condition after all the athletic activities you've been doing. Have fun, take care, and continue to enjoy your adventures and inspire us all!
Wow, your trip is filled with so many exiting new adventures. You're gonna love scuba diving, the most unreal experience ever, I went in the arabian sea, it was by far the coolest thing I've ever done! Miss you lots, have tons of fun...well tons more of fun I guess.
