Well our wonderful crazy trip has come to an end. We spent the past day travelling by bus to get to Buenos Aires, then hopped our plane to Lima, where we have to hunker down in the airport till morning. Next we have a flight to Panama, then Florida, and finally we will end up in Denver. Four countries, four flights, three different airlines, and 37 hours later, we will be back home in the USA. We wanted to sleep, but instead were accosted by a young man wanting to "practice his english". An hour and a half and several awkward moments involving politics and his discloser that he "usually gets kicked out of the airport by police" later, we told him to get lost so we could get some sleep. We shared a nice breakfast ... read more

We had heard good things about Buenos Aires, but it was just a little too posh for us this time around. Instead we decided to spend our last week of the trip hunkered down in nearby Rosario, saving money and preparing to re-enter the "real world" (or the closest approximation we can come to to the "real world" in our life right now!) After following the book to a noisy, expensive hostel full of party goers, we decided to spend a day scouring the city for cheaper and quieter digs. Armed with a notebook of addresses procured online, we were off. After a few disappointing places, we were about to quit and move on to afternoon foraging when we stumbled upon the very cute Art Hostel. It was covered in pretty murals and had a nice ... read more

The quaint fishing village our book waxed poetic about turned out to be Cancun. During spring break. Whoa. A little too wild and crazy for us. Plus, totally booked up. Tent sites were going for $10 PER PERSON. We heard that a lawnchair on someones roof went for $10 a night. Yikes. Lucky for us, Uruguayain people are the nicest people in all of South America. After hiking about two miles with all our bags in the heat, the hostel we arrived at offered us water and a seat, then told us they were all full. Not to worry, they made some calls for us and located some guy named Alexandro who sorta kinda had a place for us. And he would pick us up in his car! We were sold, even at $30 for the ... read more

So.... Today we are playing catch up and trying to at least put down where we have been so my dad's map can be complete and he won't come searching for us ;) We have given up on the photos till we return. Such is our luck. But know that we tried, and we are getting really excited to come home. Hmmmm pickles, mexican and thai food, scones and lattes and a million other lovely things that make the USA so great!... read more

Concordia does not exist in our Lonely Planet guide. Neither does it exist for travelblog. Never the less, we arrived at 1 am and spent the night there. It is strange that a town that doesn´t really even exist could be so expensive. *I found myself repeating, "Woe Discordia!" in a moody tone over and over. Probably drove Oliver insane with it. And I thought of you, Tyrell, each and every time! ... read more

Oh Posadas. We got tired and just stayed, and stayed... and stayed. For four days. We found a nice inexpensive hostel that was so peaceful, the host apologetically asked Oliver to stop playing his guitar at two in the afternoon because, "guests may be sleeping". We saw "Avatar" and "Paranormal Activity" (in english!) We even got movie popcorn. We walked along the river and tried to go to Paraguay and instead got to see a car disassembled and emptied of a dozen kilos or so of cocaine. Maybe we didnt want to go to Paraguay after all.... read more

Huge glorious waterfalls. A nice information guide showing us where to cross the railroad on the map. He says, "in english, do you say "rails" or is it "bon"?" We look confused, so he sings quietly to us, "I hear the train a coming, it's rolling round the BON..." Magical ... read more
