Very much in the a.m. tomorrow, we shall be departing for km88, the departure point for the Inca Trail. Which will mean Iīll not be blogging for a few days. Probably wonīt have very much to say for myself when I get back either - it was amazing, trek quite hard but good, cold at night, definitely recommend it, that sort of thing. Iīve big-time been looking forward to this. Iīve seen the list of names of people in our group. All English-speaking (if you can say that about Americans), mostly girls I think, about a dozen of us. Iīve bought [View Full Entry]

Better and better South America » Peru » Cusco » Cusco
Got my luggage this morning. Straight home after for shower and change. Felt like that Tom Hanks character in Castaway afterwards, after when heīs rescued. Or The Elephant Man when they put him in a suit, although he was still quite ugly, poor chap. But given that bump on my head from the embarrassing incident (Stop telling people, Elizabeth) itīs a fitting comparison. I should have mentioned earlier perhaps that Cusco is great. And, if youīre going to visit, June is the month to do it. Itīs festival season. You can barely turn a street corner without being confronted by hordes [View Full Entry]

Horse riding South America » Peru » Cusco » Cusco
More bad things but I also went horse riding, which was very good. I bought some jeans, you see, so I could. They're a bit tight, but tight is warm, right? That's how they wear them round here and they're also good for riding. At first, I thought I'd made a big mistake by saying I had experience because my pony was massively un [View Full Entry]

Well, it has not arrived. I shall try to keep this one upbeat though I'm feeling less and less of a trooper. The hotel I stayed in last night had no telephone, no heating and they just didn''t understand the problem. I'm completely paralysed by my lack of language. After running to a shop this morning to phone the airport again (they wouldn't pick up at all yesterday] and receiving the bad news that they do not have my luggage but could not tell me any more or answer my English questions, I went straight to my books. Rarely have I [View Full Entry]

Note South America » Peru » Cusco » Cusco
Normally, I wouldnt have put "role" instead of "roll" - I put this down purely to tiredness, not my regressed spelling age. I actually donīt know how to spell acommodation, however. My Spanish phrasebook is annoying me. It doesnīt tell you how to say "I need", "there was" or even "because". "Because" must be in there somewhere, surely. Nontheless, Iīm going to buy a real Spanish-English dictionary. Though perhaps this will be difficult. I failed again today to buy a notebook. They had authentic-looking, leather bound, recycled-paper appearing things, but I want something like you get in a I [View Full Entry]

Journey South America » Peru » Lima
It was Helenīs idea that I do this travelblog thingy. I found this website pretty easily. All I needed to set it up was an email address, a name and a nickname. First two I already have, but I donīt think anyone really calls me by a nickname anymore. Iīve had to resort to the name which the boys in my class at All Hallows referred to me by amongst themselves when we were about 13-15: Beamish. It refers to my forehead, which used to be a bit shiny for some reason - must have been a teenage thing. You could [View Full Entry]
