Hello all, As you probably guessed, since our last entry we have not been renting any more motorbykes... From Tha Khaek, we went to 4000 Islands, in the border with Cambodia. This was only 500km away, but it took the bus 17 hours!!! to get there. We had to take what they call the local bus (the one all foreigners try to avoid) but it was the only possibility, no VIP or first class was going south. The bus arrived one hour late, the seats were all broken, the floor was filthy and full of rubbish. As expected, the bus was packed with people, and they sat one person right next to us, just to make it cozier. Luckily he wasn't going all the way and only had to put up with him for 4 hours! ... read more

The Loop 08/02/2008 - 11/02/2008 2 scouters 4 days - 3 nights 475 km We arrived in ThaKhaek with the intention of doing the Loop. A 475km route around central Laos countryside. We checked in the ThaKhaek Travel Lodge, known for having numerous books written by travellers who have done the Loop, so we could read about other people's experiences. On the 8th, we rented a couple of small scouters from the guest house. The owner only had one left, and had to borrow another one from a friend. He told us he had checked the motorbikes, the wheels were good and had plenty of oil to last the 4 day trip. DAY 1 We left at 9am, going first to Kong Lo cave. After only 22 km (in a very good road) Manu's bike got ... read more

Hi everyone, We are still in Laos making our way towards Cambodia slowly and having a good time along the way. We left Luang Prabang on the 7th of Feb and took a 9 hrs bus ride to Vientiane. What a ride that was. At first the bus was "normally" packed, but right after leaving the station the bus driver stopped the bus and another 17 people got one and were sitting on stalls in the middle of the bus, that is when it got abnormally packed. On top of this they put the TV on to play some very-cheesy-sing-along- Lao-pop-Karaoke, very, very loud. As we went along, the road started got winding and 2 kids sitting next to us started puking. We ended up giving them baby towels and passing then plastic bags which they ... read more

Hello from Laos everyone. After Bangkok we took a night train to Chiang Mai on the 18th. The train was quite full so we travelled in 2nd class and slept with another 40 people in the wagon. It was actually really good, they bring you dinner and breakfast to your seat and the service was good! Ok the train was old and slow, and there was a huge party in the next wagon during the night, but it was charming, like being back in time and in the morning we had time to enjoy the landscape. Once in Chiang Mai we visited many more temples, of course. Chiang Mai has far more temple that there is churches in Brighton...Chiang Mai is also quite a noisy place and every morning we would gradually get woken up, first at ... read more

Hi everyone, We made it to Bangkok after a stop over in Singapore. Finally it feels more like an adventure. Travelling in English speaking countries was far too easy! We can't say much about Singapore because we only stayed there one night and only had a quick stroll on the beach. So lets talk about Bangkok. What a chaotic place this is...! The traffic is very bad (3 cars and a tuctuc can easily fit on 2 lanes, normal size lanes! ) and it is packed with all sort of people. It took us 2 days to find our way around and travel within the city with confidence, as the underground and sky-train network do not cover all the main areas. To make things even harder there is a lot of scams for tourists and it ... read more

Hi all, Once again, it has been a long time since our last entry...! We made our way north quite slowly, stopping pretty much everywhere in New South Wales, and not so much in Queensland, but here are the highlights... From Port Macquirie, we went to Nimbin, close to Byron Bay. 30 years ago, there was a hippie conference here, but some of them never left, making this town quite a unique place... Byron Bay was very nice and the beach beautifull but sleeping over night in our camper in the street was a problem with the council so after booking our diving course in a travel agent we took the road again towards Surfer's Paridise. We thought this was an area but it is actually the name of a city, by the sea (obviously) full ... read more

Hi everyone! Sorry it has been a while since we last updated the blog but we have been busy travelling, you know!!! Since our last entry we stayed a bit longer in Kaikoura where we went swiming with dolphins and whale watching. Then we went to Christchurch and stopped on the way to Hanmersprings where they had some nice thermal pools. We then had to return the van, it was hard to leave our home behind but we were also glad to sleep in a proper bed in the backpacker for a few days. It was also nice to stop somewhere for more than 48 hours and to get to visit Cristchurch properly. Before we left NZ we took a day return on the tranzalpine train, one of the most amazing train journey there is. On ... read more

Hi all!!! We are in Kaikoura on the East coast. Since our last entry we stayed in Queenstown for a couple of day where we met Ben a friend from Brighton that is now living there. It was nice see a familiar face and catch up with him !! Thanks Ben for the hot showers !!! We had a good time visiting around ( beautiful place), riding luges ( see pics) and walking to the local ski station to touch the snow. Then we headed to the gorgeous Milford Sound, and had a mini cruise with showers under the cascade and dolphins escort, really worth it. We then kept driving south and passed by Invercargill to stop in Bluff, the southern town of NZ. That is where there is the yellow post with the distances to ... read more

Hi from Queenstown! We have crossed the Tasman Sea and are now in the south Island. We took the ferry in Wellington and arrived in Picton. We then headed north to the Abel Tasman National Parc, a bit of paradise on earth! Rain forest meeting the crystal clear water of the tasman sea, something we really didn't expect to see in New Zealand. We then drove East to Nelson, and south to Westport. On the way to Greymouth we saw a seal colony and the Pancake Rocks, really cool! From there we visited the Franz josef glacier. We did an 8 hour tour of the glacier... great fun! but a bit cold! Yesterday we were in beautiful Wanaka, and arrived in Queenstown late in the afternoon! We haven't had the chance to see a lot around ... read more

Hello everybody, We are in Wellington, ( south of the north Island), capital of New Zealand. Since our last entry we have been to sub-tropical forest of Waipoua and saw some massive Kauri trees. Then kept driving south and went caving in Waitomo, great experience... very dark and wet !!! Then we drove East to the beatifull Tolaga Bay and had our first swim in the Pacific Ocean. After that we visited Gisborne and Art Deco town of Napier. Finally after having the car fixed ( nothing major) we reached Wellington and we are taking the ferry to the south island tonight. Thanks for your messages and comments, keep them coming !!!
