Iguazu falls truly are a wonder and a beautiful experience we were fortunate enough to have the pleasure of visiting this wonder of nature from both the Argentine and Brazilian sides. both are amazing and offer totally different experiences the Argentine side thrust us full throttle in the enormity and gloriousiness of the falls. from the entry gate it was a sweaty and hot walk into the park and an opportunity to jump aboard an open jeep that told us interesting things about the rain forest and most importantly showed us the "heart of palm" a nice relief for my vegetarian [View Full Entry]

The devil's throat !
Brazilian side of the falls
Bin making friends

From BsAs to Iguazu falls was a very long stretch. Broken up into a couple of camping stops. The first along the Uruguay river, separating Argentina from the country the river was named after. Big storm, lots of rain, and some people sleeping on a bus (who had forgotten to put their tent up properly before the downpore)... The second stop, for a few nights, was on sort of an island: San Carlos Pellegrini. It´s in the north of Argentina, in their version of the wetlands. By now we´d already found out why they´re called ´wetlands´, but, there would be more [View Full Entry]

Capibarra
And some piranha for dinner too !
Bogged trucks, 2 out of 3

Buenos Aires (BsAs for short), what can we say..... so much. Most importantly, we´d be here for a whole whopping 4 nights!! Even better, in a hotel !!! Yeah baby, cranck up that aircon !!! Of all cities thus far in the trip, this one would´ve made the best impression on most of us. It´s a true Metropolis, with plenty of history, also on the water, for some nice views and sunsets, great food (unless you´re a vegetarian), and lest we forget, TANGO!! We did enjoy our stay here in many different ways, and would say we´d like to come back, [View Full Entry]

La Boca, tango lesson no 1
Bar 6 lunch, yummy food for all, finally !
Malba art gallery, ehm, handbag ???

Heading out again, another long haul, what to do, but read books, chat, play cards, and watch the scenery go by. By now, we´re getting into the pampas, so the views during the first hour of the day will be the same as the views during the 8th hour of the driving day, or the eleventh.... The cities in between aren´t much to look at, so no relief there. When we started hitting a point to make up camp, the heavens opened and a big downpoor came our way. So no reason to stop there. So that didn´t work with a [View Full Entry]

Furry local lama (guanaco)....
Expensive short ferry to the first day hike...
On our way, Valle des Frances day hike

Apart from the break in camping, and having a bed to sleep in again for 2 nights, we had a tour of the national park in the comfort of our own truck. With a guide though, to get some background info on the park, the vegetation, and the wildlife... or lack thereof. The tour brought us towards the Perito Moreno Glacier, where we hopped onto a cruise alonge the front of the glacier. Not sure if "cruise" is suitable for a boat that takes of, slides along the front of the glacier, and then turns back. Nevertheless, we probably still had [View Full Entry]

Perito Moreno glacier, El Calafate

So, leaving Bariloche with NO hard or mixed feelings, or in Henry´s words, "the road out of town, my favourite one"!! (insert Texan accent). But again, parting without pain, as again the road gave some magnificent views on the lakes we passed, and from the eastern Side on the Andes as well. We didn´t drive too far that day (not in mileage, just in hours), and ended up in a bus camp in one of the many National Parks (first pic). As you can see, it was well worth using the shovel for toilet stops that night, a really great place [View Full Entry]
