Gotta be creative!!
So, apparently I’ve become a bit more bongo flava than I thought... Two night ago I was driving on the local dalla with two friends, a very short distance. Getting of the bus, we gave the conductor 500 shilling (equivalent to less than half a us dollar) for our ride that should be no more than 150 shilling. The conductor snapped the bill, jumped on the dalla and clapped the side of the bus, signalling to the driver to - well - drive... Seeing our 350 shilling drive off, I got enough. The amount is tiny, but the bitter memory of [View Full Entry]

In the middle of the day the dalla driver in question drove a bit too close to a passing car, thereby causing a recked front light. The driver of the private car jumped out his car to confront the dalla driver who refused to get out of the bus, seeing the mans fury. This only caused him to return [View Full Entry]

Here’s the story: Before coming to Tanzania I was told that I would be expected to make a 400 dollars donation to the organisation in order to volunteer. This is pretty common and hard to get around, so I agreed. When asked for the money I told the director - well actually the directors’ husband who came asking for the money - that I would like my donation to go towards the schoolfees we were fundraising for. The following entry will be of the work that I do here in Dar. Or more truthfully - the work that I dont do... As most of you know, I came to Tanzania, to intern at a local NGO. My expectations were learning from the people that do the work on the ground, and thereby add to my theoretical knowledge on so called development. I started working at my organisation 3 weeks ago. At first sights the place looked like a very dynamic and project oriented organisation, with a good history of succesful projects. Next evening i arrived in Dar (on the same plane as Mrs Tanzania i now know) after 24 hrs of travel... Tired and very warm, but with a smile on my face, as the warm, humid air hit my face getting out of the plane. The smell that reminds you that you are about to embark on a new adventure. After waiting for my visa in immigration, I was picked up by [View Full Entry]
