Not much else to report on the progress but I took a few videos which are pretty short and if you are interested , you can click on the links. The videos are hosted at youtube.com in case you are wondering why it takes you back to youtube and not the travelblog! A bit of "scandal" here...ha ha.......my 2 coconuts were stolen by the little pube helpers! Then, coincidently, so was some bird feed right across the way from our place. Thieves!!!! I reported it to Isidro and he was MAD.......good!!! The palapa is mostly done! The guys worked about 8 [View Full Entry]

Lighthouse Beach
Gabriel, park maintance guy!

Today was yet another clear blue sky day, calm winds and warm. We usually have to get up early b/c the workers get here about 8 am or so but since there is nothing to do at night except get online and visit a bit, do some blogging and catch up on news, we go to bed pretty early. Evenings are the hardest for us b/c we are used to watching a little TV at least. Maybe next year we can try to get TV. However, our neighbors are having a satellite guy come over and has said that we can [View Full Entry]

Flatform forms..........

Hi, all! We are doing well here in Costa Brava. Things continue to progress here. Mike and I made a decision to add an upper platform in order to have a view of the Sea of Cortez. It will only be 7 X 12 feet but will be nice. The sombra will extend from the floor of the platform. We were able to negociate a good and fair price with Isidro and we HOPE that the work will be done by the end of the month but you never know. I had to write up a new contract and we will [View Full Entry]

Trusses and palo de arco ready for the palms

Hey, bloggers! How goes it? Things continue to progress on our construction.........Hopefully we should be done in a couple of weeks. We think that considering the Mexican attitude of "manana, siempre manana", we have been pretty lucky so far. The bodega roof is done, but the forms have to be removed and all 9 columns are up and ready for the palapa to be built. However, Mike has had a change of mind and wants to build a small platform w/ a stairway so that we can have a good view of the ocean. From a re-sale point of view, it [View Full Entry]

Just a short clip here of the driving conditions in Mexico for those of you who might be interested. Sorry about the unsteadiness of the camera but it is the nature of the roads!!!! Check out the perils of Baja driving..........and this really is not that bad at all! I just posted it at 2.22 pm so it might not be up yet! Stay tuned!! [View Full Entry]

Hola........Happy Valentine's Day! Things remain about the same.....6 posts are done, more cement is needed!!! A huge dumptruck load of sand was delivered today for work tomorrow but the guys will show up and talk about what they need to do and then have to go make a run for cement. Now, if you start to think logically, you would think that they would pick up the cement on the way in......Again, think in terms of MEXICO........... Folks keep dropping by to see the progress. Most think that it is all going well and as scheduled. We watched the one post [View Full Entry]

Construction continues on our bodega and the poles for the sombra have begun to be formed. It is quite a process to watch. Everything is done by hand! The supports or “forms” in the bodega must remain for 10 days after the cement is poured for the curing process. We found that interesting. The crew showed up “late” today because of a death. One said it was a family member, another said an old friend so not sure on all of that. I was a little concerned about them even coming when no one was here by 9 am. Our neighbor, [View Full Entry]

Old refrigerator/new tank

Hey, bloggers............Windy and still cool here but better than Michigan. Sounds like the weather has been wreaking havoc on the US. Wow. Lots of tragic news there. I know that in MI it has been cold, rainy and snowy...... Things here are pretty good. Isidro and his crew arrived at about 7.30. There were about eight of them jibbering back and forth, measuring, etc. in a flurry of activity!! It was pretty funny. After they figured out a plan of action, Isidro asked for money to buy materials so we gave him "enough" to buy the material to get started on [View Full Entry]

Not too much to report from Los Barriles, Baja de California del Sur. Yesterday we had a few locals come in to give us an estimate for building what they call a “sombra” or shaded area made of a type of wood called palo de arco, which also is the national flower of the Baja. It has a very beautiful yellow blossom. We have been rethinking the palapa which is the palm frond covered structure to cover the RV and extend our living area outside. . Of course, because of the hurricane of 06, the “prices have gone up”, OF COURSE!! [View Full Entry]

I thought I would include a couple of photos here from the ferry crossing. It was a LONG day and we waited several hours while literally hundreds of vehicles were loaded on to the California Star. Our truck was one of the last to board --INTO the bowels of the ferry! Wow. My photos did not turn as well as I had hoped but it was dark too. Once on board, we got our "inclusive" meal which consisted of chicken mole, rice and refried beans. After that, to bed...... The Route traveled this year....This link will show you the map.....
