Well, we are now official holders of driver's licenses in the state of Baja California del Sur! We did get up to the police station early and the place was abuzz b/c everyone was getting his/her licenses renewed. The camera was set up (see picture) and the screen on the wall (paper taped) was all ready. A ragged chair was set in front of the camera. It was all set up in such an inconvenient way in that the photo chair was directly in front of the desk of the lady to whom you needed to give information so there was [View Full Entry]

WE are here, folks. All is well. We are almost settled in--things are in the areas that they should be but I have lots of "rearranging" to do. The steer were in on Sunday night and the residents here were out with their brooms guiding them out. However before they did that, they got my hibiscus again! There remain a couple of buds so there is some hope. The economy here is not much better and there are far fewer gringos here, for sure. We did go out to eat lunch at our favorite El Viejo on Saturday. Prices have gone [View Full Entry]

Leaving the white stuff behind and heading for the sun and surf of our little Baja village, Los Barriles! We are really looking forward to this winter---no major jobs to do, just rest and relaxation. I can already see myself walking the beach, kayaking and just doing NADA! Our departure was a little later than we had anticipated, but better late than never. The kitties are safely stationed with Meghan and Matt so I know that they are in GREAT hands and safer there than in Mexico. It was hard to leave the kids and the kitties but the winter will [View Full Entry]

........which would you prefer?

Thanks again to all of you who were loyal blog readers throughout our adventures in the Baja of 08. We should be arriving home today and will NOT drive down ever again! What a long, LONG drive! It will be better to fly next time. We just won't have a car for awhile down there! But I do have my Baja bike and that will get me to the store and back! So here is my last entry about the Baja..........................Enjoy! As a side note, we decided that we should include a list of reasons why the Baja may not be [View Full Entry]

We are homebound! Yesterday, the 25th, we said our sad good-byes to our new gringo friends with vows to meet again in 2009 for more fun. We also bid adieu to our new native friends, including Rogelio, our painter and my friend, Flora, who practiced Spanish with me and discussed women's issues that we found to have in common. I also had Cesar's mom, Rosaria, and his sister, Mercedes in for soup and salad on Wednesday night after a fun day with the girls at the Spa Buena Vista--lunch and Margaritas..................Fun! I de-stressed a lot! I won't comment further! Then on [View Full Entry]

Well, it is just now a matter of days until we hit the road again and head home although each of us is dreading the trip! At least it will be less crowded in the truck on the way back. The last couple days I have spent doing a little painting, a lot of kayaking and walking on the beach and slowly packing up some things before we leave. Although we hope NOT to have a hurricane this summer, we are going to make plans for the worse case scenario! Rather than leave bed linens and towels in the closet, we [View Full Entry]

Thanks again to all my faithful bloggers who have been reading along. This year's adventure is coming quickly to an end and it is hard to believe. So much time has been spent bickering, supervising workers, more bickering, and more supervision of the local workers, ad nauseam! We now only have a couple of weeks to really enjoy..... This week we were able to reciprocate all the dinners to which we have been invited this winter. Now that we have things somewhat settled, we had in the crew for lasagne and chilaquiles. It was great fun and we have really been [View Full Entry]

This is kind of funny but then again, NOT. Yesterday I was just admiring my beautiful yellow hibiscus plant. It had grown so much and was ready to show some more of its splendor with several new buds ready to open. I was feeling pretty proud that it had not yet died. I got up this morning and went for a little stroll around the park and got talking to one of the residents who had just arrived a couple of days ago. I was showing her where we lived here and some of the "improvements" that we had made. As [View Full Entry]

Well, we accomplished what we wanted to do here and it has been an interesting venture! We also had some company during the painting stage and survived it...... I dread thinking about the drive home but it may be getting to be that time although I will so miss it and look forward to coming back already! Today we took the Lewis' to the airport and then went to the ING office w/ a park resident from here to pay his insurance. I acted as interpreter although it really was not needed. We later went to the Mega store to get [View Full Entry]
