the Sawcut Gorge with Lisa It really was a wonderful day! after MY hard work the day before (my cycling direction was wrong most of the 1.600km!!! ... but now hard moments are forgotten and beauty within me remains) long trip esp. jumping into jade green and warm river!
I can recall my feeling when we stood just few hundred meters from the gorge on our way back and we both had the same thought: 'let`s go further!` The lamb on barbecue was wonderful idea!
I wish I can visit NZ with my family and I want to do the same trip again!
wonderful Thanks for the great sharing! By the way, did you have problems with sandflies on the walks during Trips+Tramps? I have sensitive skin and it became badly infected with those bites many years back. You are so right about the joys of being in a smaller group. I am not sure if you are talking about Trips+Tramps having their own little boat or did they put you on a separate operator? We are going October 06 (3 of us) and want to avoid the huge groups like the plague. Cheers!
Now you KNOW you are making me jealous. The baby seal nursery would make the trip for me! Could you just have a LITTLE more fun?! I'm anxious to get you back for the verbal account and pics. Be safe.
Paradise Indeed I'm not normally an envious person, but I'm turning green with your latest adventure. The only (truly ONLY) thing that could make it more perfect is to share it with the dogs.
I know I'll never see New Zealand, thanks to you I'm getting to live vicariously. :o)

write us back! Hi Lisa. Write us at stsemail@aol.com when you get a chance. Would love to exchange pictures. We are very jealous that you are still adventuring!!!
Grunge! Haven't heard that term for a while. Sounds like the vacation is proceeding smoothly. I repeat. I can hardly wait to see the pictures. Have fun.
Okay. Add torrential rains to the list of what could go wrong. It can be miserable to be stuck out nowhere and be soaking wet. I'm with you, I'd take the chance and hitchhike. It wouldn't be an adventure without these experiences, now would it? Be safe.
Which Direction?? Hi Lisa,
I hope that you have recovered from you stomach illness. In regards to where you go next, I don't know much about the Catlins, I am actually going there in a few weeks myself for the first time, however I can vouch for Te Anau, its a nice relaxing town, and the road to Milford Sound is really scenic, probably even more so on a bicycle. Just be aware if you haven't heard already, that the 'Haste Pass' and the road up the west coast (if you head in that direction) is very hilly and winds up, down and around mountains for a good 200-300km until you get close to Hokitika, I would imagine that it would take a good 7-10 days to ride up the west coast (depending on how many km's or miles as you would say, you ride each day), and thats without stopping for rest days.
"May the adventure never end"
Cheers. Dave
Not attending Expo Hi Lisa,
You're obviouly having a great time, so I can't tempt you with the opportunity to be a volunteer EMT at the Bike Expo Youth Zone stunt jumping area. I understand. I'm so glad you're getting to wander and see/do cool things in NZ. I loved it when I went. A real vacation don't you think?
You mentioned architecture. If you get the chance a visit to Napier on the North Island, it has lots of very cool Art Deco architecture, since the city was rebuilt after a massive earthquake in 1931. Here's a website.

On the south island I enjoyed horse back riding and kayaking at the northern tip and walking the Franz Joseph Glacier. Don't slip!
Have lots more fun in the 28 remaining days! I look forward to more stories when you get home.

You're amazing! Hi Lisa, Your commentary is So interesting, envy you. I keep asking how you are doing and now I have my first blog. I have read all of them now and wish I were there with you. My boss went to NZ 2 yrs ago and he said it was the most amazing place he ever visited. He did his the Hilton way. Be sure to bring home a ton of photos. Want to see every one. In the meantime, will give the babies a big hug for you when I see them. Love to you from Stormy Seattle that is now drying out. Continue to enjoy everything. Look forward to the next episode.

Hey! This all sounds like WAY too much work to me. Food poisoning, Huh? That's enough to make you feel like you're going to die all alone in a strange country. Glad you're better. Keep cycling. I hope you experience some moderate weather and countryside so that you can just enjoy. Keep safe. Laurel
Wish I were there My computer skills should dazzle you. I DO wish I were there! Even if I know I couldn't begin to keep up. Sounds like you are having a great adventure. I'm looking forword to the pictures!
Keep having fun and stay safe. Love, Your Friend, Laurel.
Onward & Upward! Lisa,
Just wanted to encourage you as your posts have been so enjoyable to read! It reminds us much of our horse travels and the unpredictable mountains. Things are fine on the homefront and I can't wait to see pictures. Keep the rubber side down and may the wind be at your back.
Lisa your a true adventurer! Lisa: After reading all of your journals, I must say that being a fellow cyclist myself I am completely inspired by your adventures, and I look forward to hearing of your next adventure. I will be in South Island from the 18th of Feb for 3 weeks, and if I happen to see you on the road, rest assured I will stop and say hello.
save me save me! I can just imagine you yelling "save me save me, I'm your second in command!". I'd throw you some biscuits and gravy you wanker. %)coo-coo coo-coo

Getting ready to set out on a solo adventure in New Zealand. I'll be touring the South Island and part of the North Island for 2 months. I'm touring on a mt. bike with a BOB Ibex trailer. I decided to go with the mountain bike becuase I heard the mt. biking in New Zealand is great. I also plan on doing some trekking and sea kayaking. Can't wait for the adventure to begin.... full info
