So I left Lisa in Bali and set off for the airport. I thought it seemed really chaotic and then I realised why.......on the flight departures board it said CANCELLED. I queued up for ages to find out what was going on and they were so slow with everyone that no-one was knew what was happening. I got talking to two girls in the queue next to me from Holland - Monique and Hannah. They were told that they were staying in Bali for one more night and they were getting transferred to the Ramada Resort for the night!!!! I queued and got told I was to fly to Melbourne and then fly to Darwin. Literally to one end of the country to the other, absolutely ridiculous. I said I wasn't doing it and then had ... read more

We were really excited about the Gili islands. They are really really small and we didn't really know what to expect. We took our minibus to the port and caught the boat accross to Gilli Air. There are only two boats a day and so it was jam packed with locals and food deliveries, so we clambered on and sat where we could. There is no motorised transport on any of the Gili islands. We had chosen to stay on the North East of the island so we got in a horse and cart. It felt so cruel though once we were in it and our horse Sabrina (bless her) was clearly struggling in the heat. There was no alternative though as we didn't fancy a half hour walk with the backpacks in the heat. Throughout ... read more

Firstly.......Apologies for the lack of grammar on cant, wont, dont etc. in this blog entry. For some bizarre reason every time I saved it the format would change and they would disappear, it is not because my English is THAT bad. So after avoiding the duty free at the airport (unwillingly due to lack of funds!!!!) I boarded the plane to Bali. I was quite nervous about this flight as I am not the greatest flyer in the world and with everything that had happened in South East Asia the last few weeks with floods / earthquakes / tsunamis I thought for some reason that the plane was going to crash just to top it all off. Thankfully we landed safely in Densapar, Bali. Indonesia is very very strict on drug trafficking and they give the ... read more

Finally we arrived at the beach. Another long overnight journey and dropped off at the wrong place but eventually we arrived in Ch-am but not after a U turn, a bus change and a taxi!!!. We stayed literally right on the beach road. It is about 3 hrs from Bangkok on the South Coast and is apparently a favored Thai getaway place and where the King sometimes take his holidays.......we were on the lookout but he did not appear! We had a very unusual send off in Chiang Mai at the Green Tulip Guest House. We were given hugs and kisses by all the staff and then they all stood outside on the pavement and waved us off. This impressed the other passengers in our tuc tuc who obviously were not as popular!!! We have been ... read more

So much to say, hope you don't fall asleep........................ KRABBI - BANGKOK After leaving the girls in Phi Phi, it was weird thinking about traveling alone as since arriving in Asia I had been lucky and met so many people. I arrived at the bus stop after the ferry from Phi Phi and need not have worried as I instantly started talking to a German girl traveling to Bangkok also, this conversation started over a request for toilet paper!!........ Anyway, we were on the same bus and ended up getting shoved into the lower part of the bus (double decker) which seemed like a great place at first as it was more of a VIP lounge area but didn't have individual seats, more of a couch. It only occurred to us that it may be a ... read more

After a few days in Penang, our last leg of Malaysia we left. We hadn't planned to stay much longer although we could of done. It was a great city / island (connected to the mainland via a big bridge), it seemed to have everything. We took the train ride up penang Hill on a funicular train which was sooo steep my ears popped within minutes. The food was great too - Penang is the hawker capital of Asia and there are loads of great food stalls and dim sum carts with everything you can think of for under a quid, so obviously I was in food heaven!!! We had already booked the journey to Phi Phi unaware that we had yet again to take another long land journey on a very uncomfortable minibus which left ... read more

So its been a while my friends!! Sorry I have been s busy since leaving Broome. Finding it hard to keep up with the blogs as sometimes finding the Internet can be hard when your on the move. I was originally a bit anxious about traveling to Asia on my own even if I had arranged to meet Joe but I need not have worried as I have met so many people here already. After flying to Perth I stayed a few days with Ciara (Irish girl from Red Safari tour) on a makeshift mattress on her bedroom in her share house. It was comfy and quiet and not surrounded by people 24/7 so I wasn't complaining and most of all it was free. So I recharged my batteries and re-packed for Asia after a frantic ... read more

So....after 7 weeks working here in Broome I am finally outta here!!!!! I leave this afternoon on a flight to Perth. I am staying with Ciara for a few nights, one of the Irish girlies I met on the first Red Safari Tour. She's fab and invited me to stay at her place until a fly to Asia on Tuesday. She has a HOUSE!!!!. I cannot tell you how nice it will be to stay in a house with only 4 people, Bliss!!!! I'm looking forward to a couple of good nights sleep too! Left work yesterday (Friday), it was such a relief, especially knowing that I don;t need to stress about money for a while. I am using all my wages to pay for the Asia trip. I'm spending 5 weeks in Malaysia / Thailand ... read more

So this is now my 4th week working at the cafe and it is killing me. I have decent hours and seem to have regular 8am - 2.30pm shifts Monday to Friday. I am permanently stuck on the front desk dealing with all the orders and the takeaway counter but I am so sick of the bloody Aussies looking at me like I am Chinese and as if they don't understand me and I am talking a foreign language cos I have a different accent, some of them are so ignorant and impatient as well and then I get the same "oh, your from England" or they think I am Irish a lot of the time!!! I have to tell them all about my plans and where I have been and get their recommendations blah blah ... read more

So I have been in Broome over a week now. Can't believe I have been away nearly 4 weeks!!!! Broome is so so hot and I'm still not getting a proper tan yet. The factor 30 is a killer but I'm being good and slapping it on every day to be safe. Been a busy week, I arrived here with a terrible cold and flu - obviously swine flu but after drinking some horrendous ammonia solution and lots and lots of paracetamol I have now recovered. The beach here - Cable Beach is great and has loads of nice sand, the sunsets here are amazing and are one of the best in Oz. The Staircase to the moon is also something Broome is famous for. It happens when it is a full moon and a combination ... read more
