We are homebound! Yesterday, the 25th, we said our sad good-byes to our new gringo friends with vows to meet again in 2009 for more fun. We also bid adieu to our new native friends, including Rogelio, our painter and my friend, Flora, who practiced Spanish with me and discussed women's issues that we found to have in common. I also had Cesar's mom, Rosaria, and his sister, Mercedes in for soup and salad on Wednesday night after a fun day with the girls at the Spa Buena Vista--lunch and Margaritas..................Fun! Well, it is just now a matter of days until we hit the road again and head home although each of us is dreading the trip! At least it will be less crowded in the truck on the way back. The last couple days I have spent doing a little painting, a lot of kayaking and walking on the beach and slowly packing up some things before we leave. Thanks again to all my faithful bloggers who have been reading along. This year's adventure is coming quickly to an end and it is hard to believe. So much time has been spent bickering, supervising workers, more bickering, and more supervision of the local workers, ad nauseam! We now only have a couple of weeks to really enjoy..... This is kind of funny but then again, NOT. Yesterday I was just admiring my beautiful yellow hibiscus plant. It had grown so much and was ready to show some more of its splendor with several new buds ready to open. I was feeling pretty proud that it had not yet died. I got up this morning and went for a little stroll around the park and got talking to one of the residents who had just arrived a couple of days ago. Well, we accomplished what we wanted to do here and it has been an interesting venture! We also had some company during the painting stage and survived it...... I dread thinking about the drive home but it may be getting to be that time although I will so miss it and look forward to coming back already! Today we took the Lewis' to the airport and then went to the ING office w/ a park resident from here to pay his insurance. I acted as interpreter although it really was not needed. Hi! The Lewis' got here on Wednesday right on time! However, getting out of the airport was a major fiasco---no surprise there. But we got back here without any incident and got them settled in to the cramped quarters! They were very exhausted from the trip down not to mention losing 3 hours as well! Brenda managed to bring only 5 pair of shoes and more clothing than I brought for the entire winter! But that is good for her. She usually brings about 13 pairs of shoes for a week's stay. Saludos, to my faithful bloggers! Today our painter started at 8 am and worked steadily until about 4 pm. His name is Rogelio and comes with great recommendations and seems to be a nice guy. He was supposed to start yesterday, but his wife had an appendectomy and is in the hospital. He does not have a car and walked about a mile or so to get here. His wife will be hospitalized until at least Thursday. She works as a chef at the Palmas Hotel here. The sting rays continue to flap in the water today. No boating for me.... [View Full Entry]

Today we went to an Easter Sunrise Service here on the beach. It was bilingual and very low-key and presented by the Mission church called La Vida Nueva. We really enjoyed it and were glad that we attended---5.30 AM! Everyone gathered with his/her own chairs and the service began wiht candlelight and then lots of songs followed by a nice sermon by the pastor. An offering was NOT even passed! Impressive!
