We have been living/traveling through Cusco since November and will continue to do the same for another month until Guille and I move northbound...eventually returning to Portland.

We spend the last monght of January away from Cusco, sliding north and south on the Pacific coast. We had to take care of some buisiness up north in the tiny coastal city of Paita and then to vacation on the lovely white-sand shores of Mancora. As luck would have it, we lugged our camera to every site with caution, but without battery power. I admit, we are not eften preocupied with documenting our every move. Peruvians really know how to party. Mostly, they just like to party. Especially in Cusco; where every age is involved; on the streets, in a club, in your house, in one bottle or in many cups. The dancing and the toasts must never stop; not until the morning sun calls everyone back to their working reality. QUSQU ) Cusco is a city of many things; as the Incan capital, it was known as the belly-button of the world (much like Rome). The Spanish referred to Cusco as the city of “Luz y Oro,” because the robbed the people and the land of its gold with the mission of “luz,” or a corrupted version of Christianity. Cusco it is also known as the “City of the Sun,” perhaps for the intense white light that the sun emits at such close proximity. Cusco is also the Cultural Capital of the Americas, the Archeological Capital of Americas and Historical Capital of Latin America. Our adventure to Machu Picchu ! . By taxi packed with 8 bodies, a truck conducted by a priest who knows how to take every curve with grace, a pully train rattling down the jungle rails, a army jeep full of a Quechua speaking family of 10 stopping in the middle of their constant jokes to pick avocados in the road, and by our very own feet, we arrived in Machu Picchu in a record two days (when the trail typically takes 6 days). We were chased by bulls on a thin mountain trail, and never has my adrenaline been so effective as we scaled the steep wall with our heavy backpacks. We carried all of our gear straight up the mountain without the typical relief of mules, and never has my legs trembled with fatigue. ... read more

final ode to barcelona . . . Europe » Spain By BIG July 24th 2007 brittan inman goldmann so it has been beautiful and wonderful. estes ultimas dias en la barca i am in the airport writing this now. i fly to Sevilla for five beach days with Maria's family only to return again to my lovely Barca. Only yesterday we made a moving crew by bike and metro (with six paintings). I now only have bags!!! So i ask now: Barcelona why i am leaving you? you have only showed me inspiring friends, green parks, honest loves, raw energy and what i can only acknowledge now as "luck."
