1. What is something we did this year that you think you will remember for the rest of your life? Throughout my senior year at UIC College Prep, there are several memorable experiences that I will remember for the rest of my life. I will always remember taking the Capstone course. This course helped me incorporate all of the seven survival skills. With the help of a mentor, I had to conduct my own research and present my project to the class. I also had to write a research paper. I will also remember all of the senior class members leaving their hand print on the doors. In addition, I will always remember prom and all of the excitement. 2.What was the most challenging part of this year for you? The most challenging part of this ... read more

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people fighting injustice and promoting human rights. The organization’s mission is to protect people whose freedom and rights are being violated. This organization hopes to help every individual in the world enjoy all of the human rights stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Amnesty International investigates abuses of rights being denied and reports them to the public with the intension of creating a safe world. Because of its accomplishments, this organization was fortunate to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Moreover, Amnesty International has more than 3 million supporters, activists and volunteers in more than 150 countries. The article I read from Amnesty International addresses women’s rights. The article mentions that women’s rights are non-negotiable in Afghanistan. Since the overthrow of the Taliban,... read more

I am highly considering attending Loyola University Chicago this fall.Loyola University Chicago has over 175 student organizations divided into nine groups: academic/honorary, club sports, cultural/ethnic, Greek, hobby/special interest, media, political/social issues, service/spirtual, and student governments/program boards. After doing some research on Loyola's student organizations, clubs, and activities, I became really interested in participating in the first year urban immersion. This activity is for first year students and consists of 48 hour immersion in Chicago to learn about and serve our local communnities. I want to be a part of this activity in order to get involved in the community and solve problems around me that impact us all. I am also interested in participating in the Alternative Break Immersions. The Alternative Break Immersions allow students to learn and serve i... read more

During my spring break, I tried to enjoy my time in Chicago as much as I could. My first adventure this spring break was taking the train downtown with friends. I visited Millennium park and walked around downtown. Besides spending some time downtown, I went bowling, shopping, and to the movies to watch Wrath of the Titans. I also spent time completing my homework and visited a VFW to survey veterans for part of my Capstone project. This spring break, I took time to relax and spend valuable time with my family and friends. I am looking forward to several exciting things in Q4. I am excited for selecting a college to attend in the Fall, prom, and graduation. I want to end senior year strong. I want to maintain a high G.P.A and show colleges ... read more

Student ShoutOuts I want to give a shoutout to Katherine Serrano. She is a very hardworking student. She completes all of her work and participates in class. She is never afraid to share out her opinion. In addition to doing well in her classes, she is also a good friend. She encourages me in school and always gives me advice on difficult situations I encounter. I want to give my second shoutout to Daniela Don. Daniela works extremely hard in school. She is very proactive and completes all of her work on time. Whenever I do not fully understand a concept, she helps me understand better.... read more

Proving a new Possible Finding and getting admitted into a school that really cares about your future is a difficult task. I have attended three different schools throughout my life. The first school I attended up until fourth grade was a small, Catholic school. My experience at this school was wonderful. I had supportive and caring teachers. I was taught everything I needed to know at my grade level. Unfortunately, it all had to come to an end. After my fourth year at this school, the school was transformed into a high school. I was automatically transferred to a different Catholic school ,which according to some people was similar to my old school. However, I did not experience what I had at my first school. This school I had transferred to was the total opposite. The ... read more

1. The article describes Kony 2012 and the debate about how the charity spends the money it raises. Kony 2012 is a campaign by Invisible Children that is aimed to making Joseph Kony known and raise support for his arrest. For over three decades, Kony has been responsible for violence and genocide throughout Central Africa. He has forced over 30,000 children into sexual slavery or soldiers. He has even forced these children to slaughter their own families. In 2011, the organization raised $13,765,185 and spent $8,894,672. 80.5 percent of the organization's expenses went to educational programs, awareness campaigns, and grants to existing programs in Central Africa. Critics say Invisible Children's money and focus should be on Kony's victims and not just on his capture. Grant Oystan says," The issue they have is money spent on campaign ... read more

1. According to the article, modern day slavery is different from earlier forms of slavery throughout the United States. Unlike earlier forms of slavery, there are no plantations, slave cabins, or auction blocks today. 2. Lincoln's Emanciption Proclamtion was followed two years later by the 13th Amendment, which made slavery illegal in the United States. However, instances of modern slavery still exist in all 50 states. 3. The Polaris Project is an anti-trafficking organization founded in the year 2002. It is named after the North Star that helped guide slaves to freedom along the Underground Railroad. The organization operates a national hotline, taking calls 24 hours a day in more than 170 languages from people who suspect trafficking going on in their communities or victims themselves. 4. I do agree with this article that human sex ... read more

Family Recipe: Cheese Cake ( ingredients: sugar, 4 eggs, cream cheese, vanilla extract, and graham cracker crust) 1. The orgins of this recipe are Mexican. 2.My family does somewhat identify with this recipe because it is made every year for holidays. 3.I do believe people should have access to a variety of foods. If people try new foods, then they will learn about what other people in different cultures eat. They might enjoy eating some of the different, new foods. Also, they will most likely not get bored of eating the same type of food from their own culture. 4. Food is an important aspect of one's culture. At parties, holidays, or other events, people bring food from their culture to share with others.... read more
