I am a seventeen year old senior in high school. I enjoy life. I live my life to the fullest and try to do as many new things as possible. It is critical for me to study world history because I want to know how the world ended up being the way it is.

Amnesty International is a group that promotes and fights for human rights. The group includes people from more than 150 countries. The group have more than three million people active. They started in 1961 because Peter Benenson wanted to fight for the freedom of two students who were thrown in prison because they made a toast to freedom. That was the start of Amnesty International. The article I read is about abolishing the death penalty. 17 states have already abolished it, but 33 have not. The group is fighting to get the death penalty removed from everywhere. The states who still have the death penalty rarely use it, but they still want to fight to remove it completely. They believe that it violates human rights because it takes away life, and they believe that it is ... read more

At Notre Dame I plan to join an intramurals basketball team and the African American club. I want to join basketball because love it and I don't want to stop playing completely when I go to college. Basketball is my form of exercise, fun, and a stress reliever. I know it'll help me to relax and focus at school. I want to join the African American club because there aren't a lot of blacks at ND, so it would be nice to be in a group with the ones that are there. It'll be hard to find the black people, so this is a common place to meet them and make new friendships.... read more

1) Friends I made good friends at UIC that I know I will have forever. I bonded with like three people that I know I will be friends with forever. I know I can always go to them whther it's in school or out of school. They will always be there for me. I wouldn't have met them if I hadn't come to UIC. 2) Advisory My advisory has bonded and we have become strong over the years. We are really close this year and we always stick with one another. 3) Basketball Conference Championship We won the conference championship my sophomore year. We were undefeated and we bonded really well as a team that year. Basketball has always been my life, so being able to get a title during my high school career was great ... read more

My spring break was mainly spent with family. The first few days of spring break were spent being at home chilling with my family. Later in the week, we all went out bowling, and I realized that I don't know how to bowl any more. My mom bowled aboutfour strikes in a row and made the rest our of scores look horrible. I had my first dress fitting over break, and my dress is coming along great. It is perfect andkooks just like the drawing I made for the lady to follow, so that was exciting. I got my acceptance letter to NYU ove break also, and I'm very proud of that. I visited my brother over break and drove a lot to help me get reaforth get my license. In Q4 I look forward to ... read more

I would like to give a shoutout to Paulena Pollards for keeping her head high through hard times, and still managing to do her school work. I know it's hard to stay focused when things happened, but Paulena pulled through it like a trooper and stayed strong throughout the time. My next shoutout will be to Malik Dent-Muhammad for being one of the most focused individuals I've ever met. Since the day I met him, he's had a drive to be successful, and he has been thus far and will continue to be in the future. He has a never quit attitude and works as hard as he can to be successful in the future. He is one of the reasons I strive to do my best because he pushes me to reach my full potential. ... read more

I was not used to taking opportunities before it was too late. I usually would let them pass by without a second glance. However that changed once I was faced with a situation that had been stressing me out for a while. I was hesitant to take the opportunity because I feared that there would be a negative outcome rather than a positive one. After a while of talking about it with my close friends, I eventually took the opportunity. Though the outcome was not what I wanted it to be, it could have been worse. I realized then, that if I hadn’t taken the opportunity, I would have never known what the outcome would have been and it would have stayed on my mind as “what if.” I believe that everyone should make the most ... read more

1) The article is about the American Soldier in Afghanistan who shot and killed at least 16 Afghans: 11 of them were all family. The article states that the soldier had "head trauma" suffered from an accident and probably wasn't mentally stable. The soldier killed 16 people and even went as far as to burn some of the citizens. This is making it hard for America to come to an agreement with Afghanistan because of this incident and the incident with the burning of the Qurans. One young man from Afghanistan says he watched the soldier come in his home and shoot his father in the leg after the soldier had been crawling around their house. Shortly aafter shooting the father, the soldier went out and shot even more people. The US is nervous now because ... read more

1. Some books are banned because of sex, profanity, and racism. 2. I do not agree with any of the reasons listed above because people are exposed to things every day, so I don’t see any harm in reading about it. 3. I think reading about these topics will help prepare high school students for the real world. Trying to “protect” and not let them read books that may help them understand some things better is only hurting them. The students are at the age where they are faced with these problems on a day-to-day basis and no one can censor it from their real lives, so it should not be censored or banned for them to read. 4. Parents pressure teachers on what they should and should not teach. Teachers pretty much have no choice ... read more
