Obama made same sex marriage legal. Obama did this because he believe that the government should not be able to control whoever people want to date or marry due to people's human rights. Obama does not think it is fair for people to spend money that they might not even have to travel to another state just so they can get married. Another thing that is controversial about this issue is the fact the background of the people in the government pays a large role in same sex marriage. If the government know someone or has dealt with somebody that is LGBT, or feel the pain they go through, then the people in the government will actually put in work to try to get something passed. If the people in the government does not care about ... read more

I am just now returning to Chicago from Coe College, which is the school I am planning to attend this upcoming fall. They have plenty of clubs/activities to join. When I come here, I plan to participate in intramural basketball, theatre, and ultimate frisbee. The reason i want to participate in the ultimate frisbee club is because I have enjoyed ultimate frisbee since I went to this camp in sixth grade called "Camp of Dreams." This is where I first learned how to play ultimate frisbee. We were in Indiana where there were plenty of grass areas. Ever since I played this game, I loved it. I wanted to keep playing; however, ultimate frisbee is one of those least common sports in Chicago. I continued to play whenever I had opportunities to like when I went ... read more

#1 Friends The friends I have at UICCP have helped me succeed at UICCP. Without my friends, I don't believe that I would have graduated at this school. I have a small circle and when I graduate, most likely I will onlly still talk to Mark and Jeremey. We started together, finished together, and shall continue together. #2 Safety I respect the safety given at UICCP. I know that there are many type of crimes and thigs that happen at CPS schools. It is good to know that I can come to school without going through metal detectors and knowing that I will be safe from physical harm. #3 Enrichment/Sports UICCP sports are not really competitive compared to other CPS schools. However, I like the fact that I can interact with plenty of people and make ... read more

1) One person I would like to give a shout out to is Kaitlyn Hickey. The main reason I shouted her out is because she did an excellent job when we had the debate. Even though she kind of controlled the debate, she kept the debate going. Anytime it was that awkward moment of silence, she was quick to break it. You can tell she prepared for that debate well because of the evidence she was usng for her arguments and counterarguments. Also, Kaitlyn is always participating in class and engaging with her peers Another person that I would like to shout out is Arturo. I am shouting out Arturo because he was one of the judges in our previous debate. Not only did he have a hard role by judging, he explained to Yasmin and ... read more

It all started when I was attending Holy Angels catholic school, even though I did not know what was going on during this time due to the fact that I was so young Holy Angels was a school that was predominantly filled with White Catholics; however I was an African Muslim. The way that I was treated compared to white kids was incomparable all because of my skin color. I was forced to pray for a certain class, even though I was not catholic. During lunch, whites were not bothered by teachers; consequently, I was forced to eat all the food on my tray unless I would get in trouble. My parents did not realize how racist the school was until they kept picking me up from school and realizing that I was sitting on stairs. ... read more

1) This article is about Joseph Kony who is a African that are abducting children in Africa to create peace through war. The beginning of the article starts with "You are making our work here very difficult." It talks about the Invisible Children campaign that is suppose to save these children from Joseph Kony. The article talks about the Lord's Resistance Army that Joseph Kony created and how much of a tragedy this is. The U. S is trying to help Africa by stopping Kony. 2) When I was reading this article, I was thinking of Hitler. I thought of Hitler because Hitler was trying to gain plenty of power by abducted the inferior like Jews and killed them. The Columbian Trade and the Triangle Trade affect current foods and culture because those trades were like the origin of where most of the foods we eat came from. Therefore, without those trades, we would not be able to have all the food opportunites that we currently have. A recipe that my mother make is vegetable fried rice which includes the following ingredients: 2 tablespoons oil for stir-frying1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger1 medium onion, diced1/2 cup frozen corn or peas1/2 red bell pepper, deseeded, diced3 1/2 cups previously cooked scented rice2 teaspoons soy sauce or to taste, or thick soy sauce, vegetarian oyster sauce, or a combinationBlac... read more

1) Some of the reasons books are banned in high schools is for protection for kids. They like to protect kids from sensitive topics like sex, profanity, and racism. Books are also banned when they talk about evil things. In addition, Books are banned to restrict another person's ability to choose. 2) I partially agree with the facts that some books should bbe banned that discusses sensitive topics because people get easily offended about those topics. I believe that books should be read based on maturity because some people can discuss about sensitive topics in a respectful way, while some people do not know how to. 3) I disagree with the fact that some books should get restricted based on "evilness." The first thing that comes to mind is Harry Potter. People constantly complain how people ... read more
