It was 10:30pm when we got woken up, "thirty minutes to eat and leave", said the guide as I tried to find my way around in my frozen tent. "I can't believe I am actually climbing the last few meters to reach the top of this mountain", I remember saying to myself as I hurried to be ready before 11:00pm. Head lamp, wool hat and scarf, 3 bottom layers, 5 top layers, water, snack, day pack, my sign for the summit, gloves, sunscreen, sun glasses and lipbam. You name it, I had it. Everything ready to go, and my determination and [View Full Entry]

Last Saturday, I left Karama lodge around 9:00am to pick up a couple at the Moshi international airport, before starting the 3 hours hike to our first camp. After meeting the wonderful couple from Texas, Jennifer, Chad and myself started to climb Kilimanjaro mountain around 2:oopm. I read everything about Kili and spoke with friends that had reached the Uruhu peak (5985 m), but it was not until I started facing her face to face that I realized that this mountain might not liked to be explored by strangers that rap her outer beauty like a snake raps a tree. I am very excited for a couple of reasons. One is because I finally slept for the first time straight through. I have been fighting Jetlag pretty bad here, but I have had the energy of a 10 year old during the day. I am waiting for Annette to come and pick me up at the Karama Lodge to take me to my starting point outside of Moshi. The second reason why I am very excited is because in about 3 hours, I will be starting to climb Africa's tallest mountain....I will continue later, Annette has come....will continue after my climb.... There is an amazing God that guides his children and provide them with more than what they ask. Yesterday, early afternoon, I wrote a few sentences about my first day in Dar es Salaam. Well, I did not know that my experience was about to change once I left the internet cafe. I was determined to find a cheap place to eat ($2.00 dollars) and according to my book, there was a take away near the internet cafe that I wanted to find. But the map and the streets around where not matching up, and I was getting a bit frustrated [View Full Entry]

I just completed my second day in Tanzania. I woke up at 6:45am after fighting my jet lag in the wee hours early this morning at the "Aroche Hotel" and walked to the bus station for an 8:30am departure. That's right, 8:30am. The reason why I want to enfasize on the 8:30am departure, is because I just arrived to the Karama Lodge and it is 8:30pm. Looooooooong day inside a bus, with only one stop. But if you ask me to do it again, I'll do it. Not to say, the price was right. 24,000 shillings for a 12 hour, air-conditioned [View Full Entry]
