Hey
Audsey, I like this kind of 'nothing earth shattering' blog. It (kind of) makes up for the envy I feel about you being in China! I mean, it's great, I'm just envious as hell, but I'll get over it :-) You know your Mom wouldn't ever let me use the word "snot" around you guys? She thought it was a vile word (or something) but I always contended it was a perfectly descriptive word. LOVE YOU!

hello from Mauritania!
Hi Autumn, I haven't read all of your entries, but sounds like life in China is treating you well. Can you believe we have been in-country for 9 months already? The new set of volunteers are coming to Mauritania soon. I remember thinking, "wow, those old volunteers must know a lot"... but now that I think about it, I say to myself, "I have been here for some time now, but there is still SO MUCH MORE TO LEARN". My life in Mauritania is quite different from yours. No cafe, no powerpoint presentation, and no gym. (But we have lots of goats and donkeys everywhere... haha). Miss you, and thanks for putting me on your contact list. Hang in there! stephanie

Happy Birthday from Kentucky: We are flying home on Tuesday , due to the horible fact that our Honda was smashed and totalled while we were here! Thank Goodness we are all right (reasonably, a few cuts and bruses) .... Hope your stomach is still okay from the "hot pot" experience, Autumn.... Sounds like you are having wonderful experiances there in China!!

Vicarious travel through Blogs
Good grief, my mouth is watering all over the keyboard just listening to your culinary descriptions. I can't believe how much you pack into each day; I'm ready for a nap just from reading. Please keep writing, it's so intriguing .

Bird on a skewer
Blech, I'm not sure if I could eat those although I guess it's not much different than eating chicken. I know I'd cry if I saw dog! Too bad about your planned dinner and I hope you feel better soon. We are going to Kentucky for a few days starting on Thursday, That'll be fun.

Sounds like you had fun at the festival. Those photos are great and the peach blossums are so pretty. Just don't eat anymore terribly, tainted tofu!!

Sleepless about Hong Kong
Katherine gave me your blog address and I just read some of your entries. As she mentioned, our daughter, Lee, son-in=law, Chris, and new grandson (2 yrs), Carter, may be going to Hong Kong for two or three years. Chris works for HSBC, a big investment bank, in NYC which is based in London, but has a large presence in Europe and Asia. As it stands now, he will probably get an offer he can't refuse to head an analyst group in Hong Kong. Lee supervises a large group of international "relationship managers" for Chase in NYC, has a corner office on the 42 floor of the Chase Bld. there. If you live in NYC, you would know that having a corner office on a high floor is a pretty big status symbol and represents an important position. She would have to give this up or transfer to some Chase job in Hong Kong - none of this even discussed yet until Chris gets a firm offer. And then there's Carter. They are actually thinking about taking him along (a joke). From a grandparent's perspective, having them and him so far away for such an important development period is ..... sobering. Furthermore, Lee just got him accepted into a "twos" program, La Escuilita, at a local pre-school. This is another thing that's a lot more complicated in NYC than elsewhere. He is just beginning to speak, has a Peruvian nanny, and would be going to a Spanish immersion pre-school. We were looking forward to a bilingual grandson. Now perhaps he can learn Chinese too, so that he would speak three languages that about 70% of the world speaks. Of course, he hasn't learned Enlish yet either. Grandparents like to project things like this. Anyway, we are interested in your comments on the Chinese culture and may have a chance to experience some first hand in the coming years. We'll keep you posted.

oh what fun
I think this is a splendid idea. I love the phone calls, don't get me wrong, but this blog thing allows me to savor the details and when I would normally forget things, I can go back to the journal again and again. It's also just plain fun reading. Keep 'em coming.
