Correcting Problems

Still living with no basics. Haven't had a shower in 11 days. Haven't had a hot shower in almost 2 months. Days we aren't correcting shoddy workmanship I come over to Bocas and internet. I will go with a different carpenter for the rest of the job. Mine has not been truthful with me and that is worse than making mistakes on the house. The house won't be perfect but it has charisma and

As far as I can tell he was having semiskilled laborers try their hand at some unsupervised carpentry in our absence. You know tha

Day 7 of actual construction and I have a roof. It still needs to be painted. Unfortunately I missed roofing day as I was enjoying an interesting day traveling to another town getting more cash. I thought the bus ride over the mountains was thrilling. That was a warmup for the bus to Changuinola and the bank. And theres nothing more thrilling than walking through a foreign marginal shan

I went to the produce stand and got lettuce pepper tomato onion cucumber carrot and took em back to my room. It was then I realized that I am not in a hostel with a kitchen anymore.
Day 2 Concrete Foundation

Day 2 Wanchow had quite a crew today. My labor is through the roof not really. Most of these poor unskilled guys make 15 a day. Making concrete the oldfashioned way. You can build a foundation with a plumbbob string Lsquare wheelbarrow shovels trowel wood rocks sand cement and sweat. Some of the 70 lb. bags were carried by men up a steep slope then down into slippery jungle

Getting Started

Found my builder Wanchow. He has built many houses on this island and the other islands. He works hard and is quite fast according to my sources. When the TV show Survivor filmed a season on these islands several years ago Wanchow was the guy who built the houses for the crew. The money is starting to flow now various permits and plans will run over 1000 and material for foundati

On to Bocas. Pacific to Atlantic in one bus ride. Ezequiel is going to caretake my property and in exchange he can use it for farming or cows or whatever. I offered that arrangement hoping he would take it instead of me paying him to just upkeep the place. This way no money out of pocket foir me and hopefully he can have greater benefit for his family. Sadly I say goodbye to Omar and

Today I went to Concepcion a town between David and Volcan. I saw the beautiful Dr. Gomez who cleaned my teeth first time in 4 years thanks to lack of dental insurance and also replaced an old cracked filling. Cleaning 15. Filling 25. I'm cheap. Panama's cheap. perfect match.

Revisiting Cerro Punta

This my favorite mountain town of the 6 that I've investigated. My first trip to CP three years ago was a short trip and my camera died after about 2 pictures. If I hadn't already bought 2 island properties I would have tried harder to find something here. Things were just too expensive for the little money I had left. 3 properties in Panama I'm out of my mind. See the videos of Cerro Punt
