| 10th February 2007 John | Been there - From: About Otovalo.... I am so happy I found this! I was at Otovalo a few years ago. I have many shirts and other things I purchsed at the market. What a wonderful experience to be there. The sites, sounds, and smells. So cool, and so much fun. The people were so friendly, and the children, so sweet and adorable. It was a great lesson, on many fronts to have been in Otovalo, and Ecuador in general. Thanks for sharing you experiences. |
| 15th March 2006 Kriste | Indians - From: About Otovalo.... I lived in Ecuador for two years-96-98. The indians who are dressed in black and white. the men have long braids and so do the women--they are the original decendants of the Incas and also the richest tribe. They are the one who went to Scotland and learned to weave the plaids and then came back home and, some say, weave the fabric better than the Scottish. They are the only tribe who have the money and the interest to travel around the world. One I talked to was going to Italy. He wanted to learn Italian. They aren't too well liked by the other tribes. Seems that the other tribes were once slaves of the Incas and when the Spanish came, they joined with them to over throw the Incas. Little did they know that they were only trading one form of slavery for another! They are also the cleanest. |
