Last sleep in Gttingen before catching early train to Frankfurt airport. My suitcase is used to being hauled up escalators and onto buses great way to keep those muscles toned. The crowded train stations and airport waiting areas are no longer unfamiliar and at least I can navigate my way through. Two very long flights later I arrive in Brisbanestraight into the armsand of my loving and very pa

Last day in Gttingen

Dan and I began my last day here with our now standard breakfast fare of flaky croissants and muesli doused in the creamy local yoghurt. Negotiating the washing machine in the dark depths of the apartment basement I went about my laundry tasks which meant having to phone Dan to even get the lid of the washing machine open....Soon I was free to catch the nearby local bus down to the old city maki

Today we feasted on the delicious large croissants from the local 39Kster39 bakery before Dan headed to work and I began my leisurely day as a tourist. The skies were overcast and the air chilly although the birds continued with their spring time songs regardless. Catching the local bus was no easy feat considering my German is nonexistent luckily the driver could understand sign langu

After a late breakfast of flaky local croissants we set out for the local beauty spot the botannical gardens. This beautiful area is well maintained several greenhouses devoted to special plants such as cactii and natural outdoor areas that are cultivated to be as close to their natural settings as possible. Imagine my surprise when we stumbled across a couple of mature grass trees..... Several

Time to return briefly to the land of my ancestors and spend a last fee precious days with Dan. Making the most of free time before catching my train it was time for another catch up chat with my much missed partner.... It was lucky that I even made it to the train station with the traffic being so congested and my taxi driver uttering all the French expletives he could and using time spent waiti

I joined a small walking tour Sandemans and soon we had covered lots of ground starting outside the Moulin Rouge and finishing at a coffee shop near Sacre Coeur. I was fascinated by the bronze bust of Yolanda Gigliotti Dalida her bust was worn smooth by many hands pressing there

Determined to make the most of my stay in this fascinating and culturally diverse place I set off after a fashionably late and low calorie breakfast of crispy croissant and filter coffee. Backpack suitably filled with maps travel pass umbrella fruit sunscreen and a novel to pass any spare time I was prepared for a big day. First stop was Notre Dame.
After a suitably late French breakfast of croissant au chocolat and a cup of good coffee produced by my hotel room drip filter coffee machine it was off to do the tourist circuit of downtown Paris. Boarding a topless double decker red bus I made for the Grand Palais where a confronting photography exhibition by Helmut Newton was top billing.
Today I joined a walking tour of the main sights of central Paris. Not the most ideal morning as it was rainy windy and cool.
Woke unbearably early 6.30am to catch my half day tour to the Palace of Versailles. Late night internet habits do have their drawback.....
Today we woke up to mountain views at our Swiss Hostel and after a late breakfast hauled our luggage down to the local train station. To pass an idle hour we decided to sample rosti and local sausage while taking in our last look at the majesty of the mountains. We then set off to catch the first of three trains for Lausanne.
