Hi Annie: I'm very envious of you - what a great experience! The pies look wonderful - you did good and it looks like your Dad taught you well with the turkey. Christmas in Austria - what a great thing to share with your grandchildren some day. We will miss you all at Christmas but we will be thinking of you all together in Austria. Love You, Aunt Betty

I've rented an apartment in Vienna close to Annie's dorm. I'll be spending a week with her before Ned, Ben and Andrea come to Frankfurt. Jon is flying in on the 18th and will join us in Vienna. How nice to get a preview of what Vienna looks like for Christmas!

Mercedes-Benz and Beer - From: Last month...
I absolutely love your pictures! Especially the one with the rose and the one with the fisherman. I have to say I`m jealous that you got to go to the Mercedes-Benz museum, it was closed when I was there. I think the beer might be 1 liter no matter what time of year at a beer garden. At least that`s what it was in Munich when I was there. (I didn`t have any though). That`s one gian pretzel. Yikes. Keep having a great time.

Giant Water Lilies - From: Installment #2 - Amsterdam
I would like to thank my wonderful brother for always being there for me when I have a plant question. :-) I'm glad to hear how close I was with my description! Giant Water Lilies have always impressed me, and they come from the Amazon...well, now we know why they're so big! Now, it seems there was mention of a website, too, but it didn't quite make it into the post...maybe we'll get another posting here soon and we can all see this man on a pad!

Jealous - From: Installment #2 - Amsterdam
Hey Kiddo, Those are Giant Water Lilies (Victoria amazonica). They come from the Amazon. Here's a web site where you can find a little more information. There's even a picture of a man standing on one! It's pretty incredible. I think this is a recurring theme in my comments, but I can't tell you how jealous I am of your travels! Thanks for taking the time to tell us all about them. Your writing just flows and it seems like you're here standing next to me telling me all about it! Keep it up, I can't wait for the next installment of the Groelz Express! Incidentally, did you get a CD of their Big Band music while you were there? I can't wait to raid your music collection upon your return! Keep up the good work and enjoy yourself! LY, Jon

I got your postcard today! - From: Installment #2 - Amsterdam
I am so jealous of all the art you've gotten to see already. Oh the Rembrants, they just aren't the same on slides... I did get to see one or two when I was in high school and went to D.C. but in Amsterdam! I really enjoyed your postcard. The painting and then what you wrote on the back made me think of our conversations when it comes to religion in general. I miss those talks! I anxiously await the next update on the Groelz Express!

Baking... - From: I can bake!!!
Maybe you should see if you can spend more time in that bakery. You could work there on those days that you have a little time to kill, but not enough time to travel. Like a rainy afternoon where you have an hour or two and no plans...You could feed yourself pretty well if you swapped them an hour of work for a loaf of bread and some breakfast pastries or quiche...do they do quiche there? It was among my favorite bakery items in New Zealand. Besides, think of all the cool baking skills you'd learn! You can come back and teach me any and all of that stuff! LY Kiddo! Keep the pictures and stories coming! Jon

Kali - As a matter of fact, I did get to see the inside of the church, and yes, it was just as intricate as the outside. It was positively gorgeous! Grandma & Grandpa - I have to admit I'm a bit envious. Spending the day at the zoo with Grandpa is among my fondest memories. I always had a wonderful time, and I hope Mary feels the same.
