Anna A - Anna Alford

Anna Alford I'm not heading out on any grand trips around the world, but I love to travel, explore and have adventures so these blogs will chronicle my adventures close to home and further afield. I live in a wonderful, amazing place called Crystal Lake located in what I call the Middle of Nowhere, Pennsylvania. It is a summer camp in the summers, a cross country ski center in the winter and a great place to be all year round. I maintain the photo of the day for the ski center web site at: www.crystallakeskicenter.com

My profile says I'm not heading out on any trips around the world, but today I am. I'm leaving for a month in SE Asia. Today I fly from JFK to Bangkok where I get a connecting flight for Vientiane, Laos to meet my friend Chris, who is staying there at the moment. I'm writing this from the guest room of friends in Conn., Bob & Betsy Huffman. Bob is driving me to the airport (Thanks Bob!) My alarm just went off, so it's time to get up and get going. Stay tuned the adventure is beginning! [View Full Entry]

I'm noticing a trend here. I seem to write about food a lot. This blog will be no exception. At least once a week we drive over to State College and our trips always involve a meal. Tonight we tried a place on College Ave that we had passed many times but never really noticed, Mio Zio Cafe. There was a parking space across the street so that seemed as good a reason as any to eat there. Next time I will be willing to park further away just to eat there. A while back I came up with an idea [View Full Entry]

Today my mother and I joined two friends, Ruth Rode and Janet Kohler for a drive over back roads to a Ham & Dandelion Dinner at the held at the firehall in Mooresburg. The menu was dandelion greens with a hot bacon dressing, boiled potatoes, corn, ham and an assortment of pies. [View Full Entry]

Where should we eat? It is the inevitable question when we are out. Today I helped us answer the question by pulling a handful of coupons out of my wallet. There were a number of familar options and then I came to a buy one get one free coupon from Pine Creek Inn in Jersey Shore (no not the coast of New Jersey, a small city in Pennsylvania). It was on the way home so it seemed the perfect choice. The coupon said it was located at 5645 N State Route 44 north of Jersey Shore. We got off Route 220 [View Full Entry]

This is Laughlin Lodge, the original building on the property. It was built around 1900 as a hunting lodge. It's original name was Bena Lodge. (Bena is an Indian word meaning ruffed grouse). We no... [more]
"Home is the dearest spot on earth, and it should be the centre, though not the boundary, of the affections." Mary Baker Eddy My home is a beautiful spot in northcentral Pennsylvania and it is indeed for me the "dearest spot on earth". I've lived other places and I love exploring new places but this is the one place I always come back to. Here are a few photos of the place I call home that I've taken over the past year. There are a lot more photos at a photo site I maintain at: Crystal Lake Ski Center Photos [View Full Entry]
