From Madrid, my brother and I took the 1AM bus to Barcelona. The bus ride was shitty. Overnights always are. Unfortunately, my brother and I got separated on the bus and had to sit a row apart. I was sitting next to some guy that spent 20 minutes saying goodbye to his girlfriend before the bus left. When we were all situated on the bus, he was next to the window and still peering out at her lovingly. She was still there looking at him. For another 15 minutes they mimed shit to each other. At some points I couldn't tell [View Full Entry]

The night before we went to Segovia I hopped on the internet and tried to find a way to get there from Las Rozas instead of Madrid. Las Rozas is only like 57 km from Segovia, whereas Madrid is 73 km away. Of course, the damn Spanish internet told me nothing useful. It said that a bus went from Las Rozas to Segovia, gave me no times, and no location of departure... wait.. it said Las Rozas bus station. There is no Las Rozas bus station. Ugh. The damn Spaniards. Everything is so hard and a hassle. Anyway, we decided to [View Full Entry]

My brother arrived on Saturday and it started another chapter of adventures in Madrid. We quickly took him to drop off his stuff at Jenn and Jess' madre's house. We didn't go in because their madre doesn't allow anyone inside. Jenn took his huge suitcase in and pretended that it was her's and that it was stuff that her mom sent her from NJ. Haha. After that it started raining and the four of us went to the Plaza Mayor for some paella, which was not the best I've had. We also joined a protest by the sanitation workers for an [View Full Entry]

After quite an easy flight from Newark to Madrid I met Jenn at the Nuevos Ministerios Metro. We quickly proceeded to check in at my hostel near Tribunal, where I had to stay for two nights before I moved camp to her friend´s place outside of Madrid. We chatted for a little while and grabbed a beer but then she had to leave to go to class. I, naturally, decided to go to Plaza Cibeles. The weather was nice and I walked around the Passeo del Prado and then up the Fuernacal, which is a shopping street. My first impressions of [View Full Entry]

So I'm almost off to Europe again. My flight leaves at 10PM tonight. I can't wait! There is good news and bad news concerning the Greece trip. My department gave me the money to go. But I chose to use it towards tuition next semester instead. It was a tough choice, since Greece a Classical wonderland and I am an avid Classicist. But alas, I will make it there one day. I have too many financial constraints as it is and hopefully that Greece money will alleviate them. So here is the game plan so far: I'll be in Madrid for [View Full Entry]

At the beginning of the week my friend Kasia, who's in graduate school at Emory for Immunology, asked me to come down to Atlanta for the weekend. I told her I had some prior engagements on Friday night but Saturday-Monday was a possibility. Later in the week I decided to reserve a car for Saturday and it looked like I was going to be going to the ATL. After my last class on Friday I called her up and she convinced me to drop my engagements and travel down right at that moment. I was walking to lab.. but stopped, turned [View Full Entry]

For the past three years, I've been spending Spring Break on service trips all around the States. Thus far, I've been able to visit Phoenix and climbed Camelback Mountain, visit Colorado and hike the Rockies, and this year a big group of us flew over to California to spend a week in Yosemite National Park. Not only were we able to help the National Park Service out, but we also had the opportunity to see a little bit of Yosemite Valley. There's so many amazing places in the US to visit, how am I ever going to do it??? We (my [View Full Entry]

Driving to Roma, Mia Vita Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
My favorite place in the world. Rome. The day after I got back from the Baltic, bus-lagged, exhausted, sleepy, I had to be prepared to drive down to Italy. From Poland. Through (out of the way) Germany. I was completely ready. During the summer my aunt Ela drives up from Rome (where she lives and works) to Poland for the month of August. She invited me when I first got to Europe to stay with her in Rome for a little bit. How could I say no??? So I booked a plane ticket back from Rome to PL but drove down [View Full Entry]

On a beautiful day Malwina, Ada, Adam, and I set out on a little roadtrip from Dąbki to Gdańsk. It took us approximately 2 hours to get there, and we drove through a beautiful part of Poland, one of the richest counties (voivodeships) called the Pomorskie. The clouds were very impressive that day. We arrived in Gdańsk around 11AM and set out straight for the rynek (town square). Gdańsk has one of the most beautiful ryneks I've seen in any city. It's colorful, vibrant, clean, and full of energetic people... and ice cream stands. That day it was just shining in [View Full Entry]

The Baltic Shores Europe » Poland
After a good few days in Southerm Poland, I had the opportunity to travel up north to the Baltic Shores. My aunt and uncle also have a Pensjonat in Dąbki, which is a small touristy town situated on the Baltic Sea, and nestled between the sea and a small lake. The Pensjonat is right on the middle of this stretch of land. It is about 150m to the sea on one side and 50m to the lake. It's nice staying in places for free. Especially cool places like this. From Dzierżoniów, Malwina and I took a bus straight to Dąbki, which [View Full Entry]
