Peak season so it was proving to be very difficult to find accommodation here. The 4 of us (Paul, Pauline and us) desperately phoned around different places and checking out hostels etc on the internet from Puerto Natales to get somewhere to stay for a couple of nights. Eventually, we found a place - quite pricey but a roof over our heads so we weren´t complaining. Only a 5hr bus ride from Puerto Natales, El Calafate is a tourist hub to visit the Parque Nacional los Glaciers. It looks like a typical ski resort with prices to match. The 4 of [View Full Entry]

TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK It was good to be on land. The first thing you notice are the brightly coloured tin houses, all very low so you have a great view of the mountains in the background. The reason for coming here was to explore the Torres del Paine National Park, to view the very well known Torres del Paine and the many lakes, peaks and glaciers. For hiking enthusiasts, a 7-10 day hike (El Circuito) camping along the way, will give you the full sights of what the park has to offer. Or, a shorter route (The W) can [View Full Entry]

After a fun filed Xmas and NY, it was time to head back to Chile. We flew back into Santiago, spent a couple of days recuperating then made a 12hour bus journey (1,016KM) south to Puerto Montt. The only reason for going there was to catch the NAVIMAG ferry to Puerto Natales. It has very distinctive features, located amidst snow covered volcanoes which can be seen from the city centre, the city centre itself represents a European style-architect, due to it´s early German settlers who arrived in 1852 . They even have a German club... that suddenly closed when we tried [View Full Entry]

MARESIAS Maresias is a fantastic sea resort. It´s really up and coming and the elite of Sao Paulo resort here in their second homes or rented houses. It was so hot and humid that our days were filled with lounging in the swimming pool, pshyching ourselves up for the 15 minute walk to the beach, jumping the waves, eating great food prepared by Mai and taking turns in drinking beer and asai. Asai is the Brazilian super drink, made from the asai fruit, crushed ice, banana and muesli on top. Popular with surfers, because of it´s energy supplying powers. Very refershing [View Full Entry]

Happy New Year all!! Thought we´d fill in the missing weeks before continuing our travels.... CONCEPCIóN Well, after Pucon, we headed to Concepcion (8hrs North of Pucon and a stop off before going to Santiago). Our main reason for coming here was to visit my friend, Alma's grandparents. Alma gave us their details before we left just in case we happened to pass by - why not??? We were really intrigued to see Alma's family in Chile and to pass on love and regards Alma, John and Kaira. They were aware that we were coming but didn't know on which day, [View Full Entry]

SAO PAOLO, SAO BERNARDO. After Santiago the next destination was Sao Paulo, Brazil! Spending the festive days with our friends Canadian Phil, Brazilian Joyce and English Luke and of course Joyce´s family in the sun and on white sandy beaches, was something we had been looking forward to for a while!!! A few caiperinas and beers were on the cards too..... Oh I missed Oxford Street soooo much...... Travelling from the airport to Sao Bernardo was impressive - situated on the mountain range of the sea, the vast size and contrast was remarkable. Every now and then we'd pass a mixture [View Full Entry]

Here we are again! We have done quite a bit, so it has been a while since our last update. Bueno... after the amazing Iguazu Falls we took the bus back to Buenos Aires (17 hours), to arrvive there 8.30 am. That left us half an hour to catch the bus to Pinamar (4 hours). Yes.... we needed a siesta upon arrival in our hostel! Pinamar is a nice little village connected with Ostende (founded by Belgian settlers) and Carilo. It was very quiet when we were there. All the locals seemed to be preparing themselves for the beginning of the [View Full Entry]

Arrived in Puerto Madryn on the 03/12. Our hostel was fine with a double room consisting of 2 bunk beds and a double bed (we didnt need the extra space but didn’t complain!). Puerto Madryn can be sold as a beach resort with a long stretch of nice beach and a seaside town feel - full of souvenir and outdoor gear shops (very expensive) for tourists but we were there for the wildlife mainly, not the beach. .... PENINSULA VALDES (Coastal Patagonia) is where it all happens for wildlife and PUERTO PIRAMIDE being the main tourist attraction of the Peninsula for [View Full Entry]
