After reading through a few blog entries written by other folf describing the hassle they had crossing the Cambodian border by land through Poipet we tought it would probobly be best to spend a little bit extra and fly into Phnom Penh. Doing it this way we wold reduce the risk of being scammed, robbed or ripped off by some dodgy taxi driver or phony immigration officer. It was probably worth it as we breezed through airport immigration and paid our $20 visa fee before catching a taxi for what will probably be the most interesting ride of all time. Never having been to Thailand before Iv only ever had a perception of what its like. Based on what i had read and what people had told me, before i landded in Bangkok the image im my head was that it was a very muggy, hot, stinking, dirty city with everyone after your cash so i wasnt surprised when a young lady in an orange jacket offered us a taxi before wed even made it through airport customs. From HK airport we got a taxi to the hostel at the bottom of Nathan Road. Chungking Mansions the place was called. Sounds classy right? wrong! We emerged from the taxi and practically had to push our way through a large gathering of asians trying to sell us accomodation for the night to get to the 5 man room we had actually booked. Consisting of 2 beds (smaller than double) and a matress lying between them on the floor the next few nighthts were going to be very cozy.
