Last Full Day in Cape Town Friday 5th Jan 2007-01-05 Hard to believe that we are heading off tomorrow James on his way back to London and Moi off to Jo’burg and beyond. The Show was at a small theatre called ‘On Broadway’ the plot was a spoof based on Brokeback Mountain, there were lots of Afrikaans jokes that we would not have got, if it were not for the people on the next table explaining them. Very funny show and a good dinner. Friday was a Shopping day in the Victorian shopping district of Long Street where we spent the morning browsing the shops and markets for bargains. Lunch was at the famous Mamma Africa on Long Street. After Lunch we walked up to the Muslim settlement, Bo-Kaap its amazing how colourful the houses were ... read more

Wednesday and Thursday Two days of Beach and Exploration. Found a really great beach Sandy Bay its about 15 Km south of Cape Town. The beach has beautiful sands and backdrop, easy access to the not so warm Atlantic waters. Gets a bit windy in the afternoon so that’s when we move to the rocks or go off and explore. Yesterday afternoon we set on an expedition initially in search of Penguins ! We had to postpone our visit with the penguins as it was too busy and they were not receiving visitors. We set of South and eventually got to Cape Point and The Cape of Good Hope the most South Westerly point of the bottom of Africa This (we think) is where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean. Went to the top of ... read more

Off at the crack of dawn for the drive out to Fairy Glen (honestly) Game reserve. Which is set in the spectacular mountains about 100Km inland from the Cape coast. Our guide and mentor and in due course bodyguard was Rory. His local knowledge ensured that we got the most out of the tour thanks to a good seat in the land rover and a well-informed driver. We met all of the big 5 including real close-up with the Lions, Buffalo and Giraffes. After a good lunch at the reserve, the opportunity to explain to the nosey couple who had been wondering why we had been given preferential treatment arose. I explained that Rory was a South African Government appointed Bodyguard and he was looking after us for the day. We left them suitably puzzled and ... read more

Location Blackheath Lodge, Sea Point , Cape Town South Affrica Thought we would spend our last day of the year keeping busy as we are used to! Today we took on the adventure of a lifetime I got James to give up his odd feelings about public transport and we went on a open top bus tour of the city. It was slightly longer than we had anticipated but nevertheless it is a great way to acclimatise yourself with the geography of the City. Feeling like we were on a role here and being a little braver we bought a ticket to travel the otheher side of the peninsular by local train to Simonstown. A quiet sleepy town that is where the Navel Base is situated although there are 1st 2nd and 3rd class carriages we ... read more

Location St Georges Hotel Cape Town RSA Fantastic weather the sun was shining and there is a warm wind. First impression is ‘wow’ the views and the buildings are stunning. Yesterday afternoon went off to the Water Front complex to have a look around, a beautiful development keeping all of the original features of the old Victorian Harbour, sat and soaked up the sun over a Castle beer. Last night we found a fabulous Restaurant called Beluga, located in the old foundry in Prestwich Street; just back from the waterfront, fantastic food & wine have booked up here for New Years Eve Jazz night. The food here is of great quality and reasonably inexpensive. Today Saturday we decide to have a good look around the City and take in some culture. We walked up to the ... read more

Well this is a bit of a practice as it not really the first part of the trip but hey! Lets give it a go Location Seats 34 A & C flight 603 London to Cape Town 32,000 feet somewhere over Namibia Africa 29th December 2006 A great start to the day we went off to the Tate Modern for a coffee and a snack, was planning to have a go on those fabulous new slides that have now been installed as part of the installation. We decided that waiting in a serious line was not what we wanted to do, had a look round the free bits (reminded ourselves that there is only one Monet and that is not very good) then moved on to the Millennium Bridge an onto St Paul’s (do you know ... read more
