Sunday 28th Help me! I cant find my way around, addresses in ·Hong Kong are not just the street and the number but they just for good measure add the building and which level it is to. Then there are closed in shopping centres and walkways connecting you to everywhere if you want you very rarely have to set foot on the street. Its bizarre trying to find your way around. The underground is a very good service but each station has about 6 to8 exits and they can be streets away from each other. I however did mange to do something I have dreamed of doing for a long time today I caught the Star Ferry across to Kowloon. It was a fantastic trip and was all over too quick so I went back and ... read more

Saturday I set off early for my flight to Hong Kong. I am sad to be leaving Auckland as I have really enjoyed my stay here. Thank you Martin & Juan for looking after me and for being such perfect hosts. Arrived in Hong Kong at around 5pm local time and boy what an impression it has had on me. This City is CRAZY but in a strange way, beautiful. For those of you who have been here you will know what I mean. There are millions of people around and high rise buildings just sprouting out of the ground like they grew there. My Hotel is 31 floors high and I am staying on the 30th floor. This trip seems to have been all about views and as you can imagine the views are amazing. ... read more

Thursday 25th got up a bit late today it’s the first time I have slept in I guess it’s the air here its so clean and fresh. It make me feel so tired. Not to worry just time for breakfast then off to the airport back to Auckland. Friday 26th Spent the day in Auckland shopping and sightseeing wit Juan. We rested in the afternoon as I have planned to take Martin & Juan out for dinner. We had booked a table at the Sky Tower Orbit restaurant. This restaurant is 328 metres from the ground and revolves too. This is the highest building in the city and you can see for 87 km on a clear day. The views and food were very good and it was a good time to reflect on my trip ... read more

Wednesday 24th my day began with an early morning call from the airport informing me that my flight to Milford Sound was not going to happen as the weather conditions were not good enough I said that I would still like to go and they were going to keep me posted during the morning. Eventually at Noon they finally called me to cancel. Disappointed as I was I soon found something else to do. I walked into town and took the Sky Line cable car up to top of mountain where the views of Queenstown and the surrounding mountains and lakes were stunning. I had some experience of the Luge cars in Rotorua and could not resist having another go here in Queenstown. I decided that the rest of my stay should just be relaxing as ... read more

Tuesday 23rd set off mid morning to the airport to fly down to the South Island. After a short 2 hour flight I arrived in Queenstown, a very busy little town, full of backpackers and Japanese tourists. The scenery is stunning and well worth a visit. The South Island is the home to the Extreme Sport Culture. You can do pretty much anything you want to here from bungy jumping off the top of a mountain to swinging through the canyon on some very dangerous looking equipment. I settled for a ride on a Jet powered boat that was a very scary but exciting experience and booked myself onto a flight to Milford Sound. I had dinner in Queenstown and walked back as the sun was setting at around 10pm. It’s nice to have long days ... read more

Monday 22nd was a day of cleaning up and packing up the boats and the cleaning up the Bach, we put the boats away and left everything as we found it. It was so good of Mrs Dickson to let me stay there it was a real New Zealand experience that not all visitors to this stunning Country are fortunate to have. We drove back to Auckland via The Bay of Plenty and Wahi where we stopped to look at the Gold Mine. It amazes me how mining for gold in the open cast way destroys the countryside and this is the first thing I have seen in New Zealand that does not seem to be in harmony with the natural landscape. I hope they will restore the land back to its natural beauty. We returned ... read more

Sunday 21st Had a fantastic day in Rotorua starting with shopping at the waterfront followed by coffee. The day then really took of when we went up the Gondola ride up to the top of Mountain where we were able to have a go on the Luge, this is like a small go-kart that you sit in and steer down several tracks that go back down the mountain. We had five tickets to ride the Luge so once you had taken the exciting ride down you just get back on the cable car to the top again. We had a really great day finishing up with dinner and another visit to the hot pools. ... read more

Sorry you have not been hearing from me for a while I have been in the country No internet connection. Its been really tough ! Catching up now though. Saturday 20th After breakfast Martin and I decided to get out on the water. We took the rowing boat out and took it in turns to row along the shore, the wind was a little strong for a row boat and we were being blown about too much and this was making it hard work, so we returned to get the Sailing dinghy out of the boat shed and try our luck at sailing on the lake. Its been a while and I have forgotten more than I can remember about sailing but it all comes back to me bit by bit and it’s a good ... read more

Friday 19th today it was a glorious day and the true beauty of this place was unveiled as I stepped out onto the deck and saw the view, this place reminded me of something out of Swallows and Amazons. We got the motor boat out of the boathouse and got it running it was such fun zooming round the lake exploring its many different little bays and coves. During the afternoon we go by boat to visit the Hot Pools and take a bath in the naturally hot springs. The water is very hot and a little smelly as it has high sulphur content; I am assured that it is good for me and after having been in them for a while you didn’t notice the sulphur smell at all. I was amazed at how hot ... read more

Thursday 18th Mrs Dickson has kindly let us use the Family Bach (Holiday Cottage) situated right on the lake in Rotoriti the smaller one of the lakes at Rotorua. After a short motorway journey we were soon in some of the most stunning countryside. We travelled for several hours with Juan Singing and me just taking in the surroundings. The plants that grow here are just enormous. Its something to do with the climate and the very fertile soil, anyway it makes you feel quite small sometimes when you are standing next to a plant that is 9 ft tall and at home it would be 18 inches tall. We stoped at a traditional town at the Copper Kettle Café in Ngatea where I was treated to my first taste of L&P and a Pie. I ... read more
