Travel Blog | Anat http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Anat/ Travel adventures in journals and photos from Anat en-us Mon, 09 Nov 2009 07:24:49 +0000 Mon, 09 Nov 2009 07:24:49 +0000 A quickie in Geneva and Paris A very late note about the last day of the trip as I uploaded the pictures ages ago and never wrote the text.We spent the last night in Geneva and didn't do much except a nice stroll around the tip of the lake where we enjoyed a small food festival. On Friday morning we checked in the airport just to discover that the connecting flight to Israel was postponed to the middle of the night which me http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/France/Ile-de-France/Paris/blog-81193.html A tourist in Chamonix When I went to Aiguille du Midi yesterday I bought a 2day multipass for the cable cars around. So today was packed with going up down the mountains. I decided to do a short hike that started in Plan d'Aiguille the middle station on the way up. I arrived at 8am and there were no queues. The sky was perfectly clear and I decided to make another short visit up there. In the morning the lights a http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/France/Rh-ne-Alpes/Chamonix/blog-81191.html And then it was enough It started when I heard of the 120 missiles attack. Suddenly the mood wasn't high anymore. My state of mind changed completely. My heart was in Israel not in the TMB anymore. When the spirit is low everything bothers me. I felt lonely. I couldn't go on.However I still did another one day on Sunday. It was relatively easy. We started climbing from the refuge along a lovely valley called Vallon http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/France/Rh-ne-Alpes/Chamonix/blog-80405.html It's not so pleasant to see a cablecar closed And the Israelis are welcome to sing it to the music of ldquogan sagoorrdquo of the ldquo16th Sheeprdquo... So what happened After the hard day we had yesterday Dana and I decided to take the cablecar up. It was anyway a rather short day so we got up late and by 9am Ron started to walk while we went to the supermarket very happy and relaxed. After filling our bags with goods for t http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Italy/Aosta-Valley/Pila/blog-79558.html At least it ended with lots of wine Wow we had one hard day... It started with an easy walk down Italian Val Ferret. At some point we saw the entire mountain side above us ruined all the trees cut. Ron said it looked like an avalanche and then he pointed to the right and there was the avalanche a huge pile of ice covered with mud scary to think what happened to everything that stood in its wayAt some point we started climbing http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Italy/Aosta-Valley/Pila/blog-78319.html It's a bad idea to get lost I can put it in one word in Hebrew hitbarbarnu. The day started fine with muesli for breakfast and we started to walk to the village of Ferret. I was expecting a nice warmup as Ferret was only 100m up the valley. Soon however the path started to climb and we discovered something was very wrong only after climbing over 200m. We were looking for the way down to Ferret that we saw below us in http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Switzerland/South-West/Sion/blog-78314.html Relaxing in Swiss Val Ferret After yesterday's massive effort we definitely needed a rest. In a trek a rest doesn't mean lying on your back to get sun tanned rather it means a nice and easy walk. This is exactly what we had today. We started with a short descent to the town of Champex with its fine lake. We stocked up with fresh bread and fruit so we spent maybe half an hour feeding the ducks with yesterday' bread. In the http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Switzerland/South-West/Champex-Pass/blog-78287.html 1386 meters up 1030 down not easy... This is supposed to be the most difficult day of the trek and it better be. I'm sitting now at Relais L'Arpette after this very long and tough day and I'm sooo tired. We started before 8am with a nice path climbing gently up the hill. When we reached Chalet du Glacier at 1583m the path took a steep turn... The higher we went the steeper it became. No wonder in fact as we were simply facing http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Switzerland/South-West/Champex-Pass/blog-73820.html Shalom I'm back So I'm back from the Alps. I didn't post anymore since last Wednesday because with the war going on in Israel it seemed pointless. In fact the whole trek seemed pointless. However I did write everything on my pocket PC. So If you're curious to read my stories I'll post them soon with the pictures. http://www.travelblog.org/Middle-East/Israel/Tel-Aviv-District/Tel-Aviv/blog-76509.html Tour du Mont Blanc for real In fact we tricked right away... from the beginning... Dana's knees weren't doing very well and after contemplating the whole morning she asked to take the cablecar to Col du Balme. We climbed several hundred meters in just 15 minutes. Fun... The view from the top is amazing of course. France is on one side and Switzerland is on the other. A small stone marks the border. Crossing it I can't h http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Switzerland/South-West/Sion/blog-73819.html Back on the track "Allez Zizou allez" It's not as if it were a life long dream. I only heard about this trek less than 2 months ago. But since I did I wanted to do it. Tour du Mont Blanc. A 180 km circuit around the highest mountain in Europe. It must be beautiful and it's definitely challenging. I just had to go. My friends Dana and Ron decided to join me and so on a nice Saturday morning we met in the airport and flew to Chamonix.S http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/France/Rh-ne-Alpes/Chamonix/blog-73818.html Miracles in Paris Well I was at home for too long. My fingers started to feel itchyhellip had to travel a bit. I booked a ticket to Paris. And since this blog of mine tells my travel tales Irsquove got to tell this one too even if a bit late.Irsquove been in Paris before. The day came we took an organized tour woke up before 6AM to get on the way 200km this time only 4 hours because the roads are good and went to visit Agra the city of Taj. The first site we visited was Sikandra the tomb of http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/India/Uttar-Pradesh/Agra/blog-21526.html Who's so interested in Wittenoom Hi there...I haven't been here since long time. Well unfortunately my long travel has ended and I'm back home so I don't have new additions to travelblog. BTW a visit to Ireland is planned so don't worry there will be new posts...However I do visit my statistics page every now and then amazed to see each time that even when I'm home my blog is alive and kicking with new readers all the time http://www.travelblog.org/Oceania/Australia/Western-Australia/blog-46812.html Farewell That's it. It's been great. It's been amazing. It's been 39 weeks of traveling Hong Kong New Zealand Australia Israel India and Nepal. And it's all here in my blog. I have no idea how many hours I spent on this blog a hundred maybe 200 I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Writing selecting the pictures I felt really creative. So now I am back home this time no http://www.travelblog.org/Middle-East/Israel/Tel-Aviv-District/Tel-Aviv/blog-27450.html Nepal... with love Nepal...I left home 9 months ago not knowing where I was going to travel beyond New Zealand. Nepal was one of the countries on my list but the list was long. Going to Australia against all my plans voided the list anyway. But when I had the chance to extend my travel I decided to go to Nepal see the Himalayas trek a bit. I didn't know I would fall in love. I read again now my end of New Zea http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Nepal/blog-26257.html Lights music and a Tika last days in Kathmandu One of the symptoms of traveling for a long time is that I am no longer hungry to explore as you've probably noticed. I spent a week in Kathmandu since I came back from Pokhara broken in the middle by my Langtang trek and that's after spending 5 days here a month ago. It's almost as much as I've spent in Sydney does it make senseIn the beginning I almost didn't leave the 2 streets that form http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Nepal/Kathmandu/blog-26256.html From Langtang to Kathmandu my "local bus" experience The last day of the trek was mostly uneventful that's the problem of going back the same way after reaching the highlights. At least it was mostly walking downhill so I walked listening to my music enjoying the colors and freshness of the forest around me.When we got back to Syabrubensi there was one important mission arrange a jeep back to Kathmandu. I was willing to pay a lot for that but u http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Nepal/Kathmandu/blog-25707.html Climbing to the top of my world and celebrating it in a village bar Continuing my Langtang trek Written in a place called Lama hotel although it's not one hotel and I in fact stayed in Tibet hotelIn the 3rd day of walking we reached Kyanjin Gompa the last village in the valley. We are totally surrounded by mountains except where we came from. By now I've been walking with Peter and Rajku all the time they were waiting for me whenever I fell behind walking slowly up and up. Well http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Nepal/blog-25706.html My second Himalayan adventure me and my shadow trekking up Yak oops Langtang Valley Written at Langtang villageGoing trekking on my own is one of the most different things I have done in this 9monthslong vacation. But well I am not exactly on my own I have a shadow. He is always a step behind me. When I stop to catch my breath to tie my shoe laces or whatever he stops too. He never speaks because his English is poor I have to guess when he wants a cigarette break. Yes m http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Nepal/blog-25705.html
