Im looking into teaching at an all girls high school next year - will know more after Xmas but fingers crossed I can sort my contract out before I come home! After zero sleep (I never sleep when I know I have to be up early doors!) myself and Marie went on our Mount Daedun day trip. Mt.Daedun is a mountain in the Jeollabuk province of South Korea. It took us around 3 hours by bus from central Seoul. We actually took a cable car half way up the mountain (my kind of trekking trip!) and then the peak was about 2 hours of crossing bridges (one bridge was 80 meters high and quite scary!) and trekking through snow. We expected to just walk along some bridges, get to the top and [View Full Entry]

Seoul - Autumn. Asia » South Korea » Seoul
So im about to sum up the past 3 months in a short blog. September Adjusted to life without my Cyndibang here (she is still missed but we skype whenever possible i.e. whenever I can get my lazy ass out of bed early enough as shes in Canada and the time difference sucks!! Had Market Day in school - another day of mayhem, entertaining wild kids, selling way over-priced stationary and toys with fake dollars (dont ask!). Spent a lovely weekend strolling around Seoul Grand Park with Marie (Irish as im calling her lately) and visited the Contemporary Art Museum of [View Full Entry]

Summer in Seoul. Asia » South Korea » Seoul
It's been 2 months since I last blogged and I have no excuses - ive simply been busy enjoying my summer and time has flown by at a crazy speed. July was HOT!! School was busy and same as usual - the days all merge into one and so once tuesday is done with, the weekend seems to arrive before you know it. The kids are all still adorable and its nice to have taught them for 6 months now as i know them really well and have made closer bonds - the little ones are totally comfortable with me and [View Full Entry]

Its been a while since I wrote to you all...so I thought id write a blog about my latest adventure. I'll start with telling you about this past weekend - I decided to go be a Buddhist Monk for the weekend in the 'Bubheungsa Temple', Jucheon river in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do. Its up in the mountains near North Korea (close but not too close - thank buddha!!). Anyways, this is an overview of my weekend - the early morning was a killer but well worth it So, after a friday night in but with absolutely no sleep (the hot nights are proving [View Full Entry]

So as you can imagine my mood improved since my last emotional blog (sorry about that people - I was having a 'moment'). My birthday week was lovely and I was spoilt rotten by my kids at school and my lovely co-workers. The week of my birthday was also good as the midterms finished and we celebrated market day at school. This is the day that the young kids look forward to as they get to spend all the fake dollars they earn (through passing tests) at a special market day that we put on for them at school. So I [View Full Entry]

Feeling Blue, Asia » South Korea » Seoul
So today is my first blue day. I had my (early) birthday party last night - it was lots of fun and many people came to celebrate so that was sweet - but today im hungover, emotional and for the first time ever - homesick. I feel like its suddenly hit me that im not actually going to see any of my family or friends for another 10 months - the thought of having summer, xmas, new year and spring again before I see you all is heartbreaking. I know im just being pre-menstrual and dramatic (as always) but im feeling [View Full Entry]

The last couple of weeks have been the usual - a mixture of teaching, exploring, partying and attempting to catch up on my sleep!! Last weekend was spent exploring Insadong the arty area of Seoul. Its one of those places that is very touristy so has tons of stalls to buy from but it also has a great atmosphere. There's art shops, tea shops, yummy restaurants, galleries, food stalls, palm readers - they all make up a fab area and I can imagine Jacqui would love to photograph it as it seems to have this 'arty haze' as you walk through [View Full Entry]

Dirty but cool buildings.

Today whilst in class I learnt 2 random Korean facts and 1 rather hilarious mistake was made infront of the small kids!! 1) I was chatting to my oldest class Junior High 1 (they are a class of 15 year old boys who turn everything I say in English into a rude word in Korean - nightmare to teach but I just about get through it every day). Anyways, I was explaining that in England we call the Police 'Pigs' for slang. They told me that in Korea they use the word 'Birds' for the police as in 'Quick, run, the [View Full Entry]

So last weekend we (Cindy - flatmate and Shannon - lovely Canadian friend) headed to Itaewon for a stroll around the shops. Its the part of Seoul where all the dumb ass American army base guys live (thats quite mean to say but does sum up 99% of them). Its very westernised and kind of reminded me of Koh San Road in Bangkok. You still get all the normal Korean stuff there but on top of that are western markets, tons of foreigners walking about and you feel like you could be in any city really. I wasnt that impressed but [View Full Entry]
