From the Bay Area (Oakland (aka: Oaktown) - just across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco). Heading to Argentina & Chile to play with my friends who are traveling around the planet since Dec 2007. Come join me on my Travels.
North of SALTA Off to the Querada de Humahuaca region. Got our car and some empanadas and hit the road. Feels good to be in a car. Paul's driving, as he's the only one with a drivers license, even though its issued from Cook Island (long story). I left my at home and am a bit bummed cause I do love to drive. But it's been nice to look out the window and just enjoy the landscape. The road just north of Salta is super windy and I do get car sick so we had to stop off for a bit so I could breath a bit easier. It was such a pretty drive though - fabulous mountains full of trees and a long luscious lake. Argentina is very fertile. Finally got of the windy road ... read more
Buenos noches. We've been on the road for approximately 9 hours driving around the Querada de Humahuaca. We arrived in San Lorenzo, a little town outside of Salta. Got a room at this place just inside the town called Cabana del Norte. It'll do, as Amy is still sick and we are just plain tired. It has a kitchen so we made the rest of the quinoa we had with a bit of improvisation for taste as they don't even have salt in the so called complete kitchen. It's been quite a long day and we are all ready for some good sleep. The road back down to Salta was just as beautiful as on the way up, as the sun was setting on the colorful mountains. Although we did take a short cut, so as ... read more

Whew - 24 hours on a bus where the seats don't recline. Ugh. The trip from Buenos Aries to Puerto Iguazu was so nice because we were able to get seats on a Primo Cama. This ride was only a Semi-Cama. And the bus was not as well taken care of as our first bus ride....ie. no whiskey or champagne to help you sleep. But we made it through and landed in Salta around noon. Lovely town. We stayed just off the square and had some of the best empanadas ever. For about 1 pesos each. Then we went in search of a place to rent a car as we really want to see this area on our own time. Found a wonderful Tourist office called Marina Turismo and got what we needed. Wandered around a ... read more
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMY!!! Iguazu Falls is one of the most amazing displays of nature I've ever seen. We got to the falls from Puerto Iguazu (a 45 minute bus ride to the park). We unfortunately got there kind of on the later side as we were trying to book an overnight bus to Salta for the next day. But even only getting to spend 4 hours at the cataratas was so worth it. Since it was Amy's birthday we decided to splurge and do the tour. A 30 minute ride in a 20 seater jeep/truck through the jungle, then into a large speed boat to rapid down to the falls, where we get to take lots of close up pictures. We were then told to put our cameras in a water proof bag, so that the ... read more
It´s been an amazing adventure so far. We loved loved loved Buenos Aries. Such an amazing city. We left on the 1st in the evening and caught a Sleeper cama up to Puerto Iguazu. Arrived today and have been enjoying the increase in temperature and a cute sleepy little town just 30 minutes away from the falls and just across the border from Brazil and Paraguay. Not to say that Buenos Aries was cold, but it it nice to be in a bit warmer weather. Only issue the bugs, but we are adjusting. Heading out tomorrow to check on the Iguazu Falls. For those of you who don´t know what I am talking about google this amazing place. I´m very excited to see them. I know it´s going to a highlight of our trip. Will probably ... read more
This city is fabulous. We are staying in San Telmo in a nice apartment on Peru and Chile. We've seem to have done quite a bit of shopping already and we have only been here two days. There are amazing street markets on the weekends. We haven't even gone into any of the shops yet. We walk to the first street market yesterday in Recoleta. Even though we got a really late start having woken up at 1pm Saturday (a bit of jet lag from not sleeping for 3 days) we walk down Peru street through tons of main stream shops, then cut across the Retrio and up Avenida Del Libertador (where there was some amazing metal sculptures (large ants climbing a pole and a pretty cool alligators). The Recoleta street fair was quite large with ... read more
Getting things ready to go. Amazing how many little things there are to do still. And I still have to pack. Just checking to see how this blog thing works. I leave tomorrow at 6:10am with Drea from SFO. We fly into Miami and sit there for about 5 hours. Then she leaves a bit earlier than me and we arrive about an hour apart. Taxi to the apartment and then - YEH - Amy & Paul in the flesh. Check back later. Not sure how often I'll blog - but I'll try. love & hugs ... read more
