Alyse Grace - Alyse-Grace Robertson

Alyse-Grace Robertson Once upon a time, a Communications graduate with a passion for fashion, film and culture decided to make the tedious trip to London and Europe so as to experience the influence, history and culture of such great nations for herself. She had booked a seemingly expansive 23-day TopDeck tour and had developed an elaborate must-see list of things to do in London.

Would she get lost in the myriad of lane-ways in London - would she find the best tasting pasta in Florence - would she find the most beautiful and comfortable shoes she'd ever seen in Paris...and for only 60 Euros??

Our story will begin on the eve on Saturday June 28, 2008 at Brisbane International Airport where she will board her faithful air-bus bound for Kuala Lumpur...

Greetings from sunny London! It's actually not sunny here, in fact it's pitch black! Granted it is 2am and I have safely arrived at Olivia's friend Cate's house to spend the next two days in her care, showing me around the amazing city of London. Firstly I'll fill you in on my previous stops on the journey: from my afternoon in Berlin I got ready for our 'pub crawl' that evening, which was an absolute blast! The pubs were really cosy and alternative and it was a really awesome way to immerse ourselves in German culture. They certainly love to drink [View Full Entry]

Greetings everyone! Unfortunately, today is a very windy and overcast day in Germany's capital, Berlin. With most people from my tour going on a Third Reich walking tour, I decided to head out on my own (very excitedly) to the Berlin Zoo; just a 5 minute walk from our hotel. I was quite impressed with the Zoo; mainly for it's huge range of animals, some of which I'd never seen before. I spent the most time in the Carnivore House, sitting on a bench and watching the leopards, tigers, pumas, lions and panthers for an hour! The polar bears were also [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! I am writing to you from the cosy basement internet room of a Czech-cafe in Prague, or as the locals call it, Praha. What makes it even more cosy is that 4 of my friends from our tour have joined me, and when we bought our hot chocolates and cakes the internet was free! Unlimited yea :) Prague is absolutely gorgeous. Very 'old town' is all I can think of when I look around, but with a classy edge and spacious feel. Everywhere you look there is Bohemian Crystal, the Czech-equivalent of Swarvoski. It's quite reasonable too! Prague is [View Full Entry]

Hello from the overcast and windy Croatian island of Pag! Unfortunately Croatia hasn't turned on the special treatment for us today but the steamy weather is still enough to see me walking around in bathers and a kaftan. The streets are quite busy here, with quad bikes and scooters, mopeds and rollerbladers - its a town that doesn't seem to sleep! ...and in parts in quite literally doesn't! We arrived here last night at about 8pm and at 11 a group went to a '24-hour beach' which includes built in bars and dancefloors, 6 inch deep in water which everyone goes [View Full Entry]

Firstly I appologise for the large gap between blogs...it has been a fairly full-on past few days with A LOT happening! We left Switzerland bound for Nice on the south coast of France, smack bang in the middle of the French Riviera, or Cote D'Azur, as the locals call it. We had to pass through Italy (close to Milan) to get down there and, what an experience! The service station sold guns, knives and lots of nasty weapons in general; as well as having to pay €0.50 (AUD$0.85) to use their feral toilets :( But at least the small snacks of [View Full Entry]

This morning I woke up to the smell of pine trees, the birds chirping and the most stunning views of the snow-capped Swiss Alps. Today I'm in Wengen in south-west Switzerland. Most people on my tour have gone up 4000m to Jungfrau mountain but as it is -5° up there and I haven't brought a jacket with me on this trip, I decided to stay in the much more inviting 17° township. I have booked a 1hr masage at a beautiful wellness clinic here followed by an afternoon of sitting in the spas looking out the 360° views of the mountains. [View Full Entry]

Greetings from the UK, more specifically London - home of the Queen!! Today I got an early start after arriving in Heathrow yesterday afternoon feeling somewhat ill. The flight from KL was incredibly stuffy and I felt very light headed. To make matters worse, when I arrived at Heathrow the airport was even stuffier and the customs line was about an hour long :( Needless to say I was relieved to get on the tube (underground train) and head to my hotel in the West London suburb of Hammersmith. After a semi-warm shower (it's summer and the water STILL takes forever [View Full Entry]

Greetings from Kuala Lumpur! This morning I touched down in KL at 5am local time (7am back home) to witness a thoroughly deserted airport...almost every shop is closed (except for the coffee vendors) and there is hardly anyone around - for such a huge airport it's quite bizarre! My flight was quite good but I found it really hard to sleep :( We were given dinner at around 12:30am and a mini-breakfast at 5:30 on Malaysian Airlines, not too bad. I'm not really sure where I'm supposed to be heading to get on my connecting flight yet...as it's 3 hours away [View Full Entry]
