Hello and welcome to my blog!
Before I enter the real world in January and have to start working, I'm off to do a bit of traveling. I had such a good time during the 2 months that I was in Peru last year that I've decided to head back to the Americas to see more of Latin America. I'll be starting off in the USA and then heading south into Mexico and Central America and from there who knows? (Probably back home!)
Please subscribe to my blog if you'd like to be kept up to date on my adventures.
Hasta luego. ;)
On my last day in Playa I had one last trip to the beach (just in case there'd be no sunshine in Arizona...) and then caught a bus to the airport in Cancun. The flight left on time and I had a great view of the Cancun hotel zone from the window. I was sitting next to an English couple so I think they must have sat us all together so they could keep an eye on us. It was good to get back to Phoenix and see Luba, Terry and Sean but at the same time I miss my adventuring in Latin America. Perhaps I ought to go and hang out with the Mexicans at the car wash down the road. I spent my first few days in Phoenix relaxing and enjoying the feeling of

The bus decided to show up at 11.30am, an hour late, and despite having paid a first class price it turned out to be a cramped little minibus with no air-conditioning so not very pleasant with the sun beating down on us. Still, it "only" took four and a half hours to get to Chetumal in Mexico and I chatted with a guy from Birmingham and a Dutch couple on the way. At the border we had to wait outside in the heat while everyone on the bus came through customs. The money changers on the Belizean side had a bad attitude and had all fixed their rates so I decided not to deal with them. This backfired on me because when we crossed

Ah well, no doubt I've learnt something useful from them. I spent my first two nights with the school at Chiqui's house where I was joined by a young French couple. This made the mealtimes slightly less embarassing but they didn't speak much English or Spanish so there wasn't much conversation going on there! For the other five nights I was staying in a guesthouse where I was the only guest for the majority of my stay. It was pretty decent having a whole house to myself but it was a shame that I didn't get the opportunity to meet more people studying

Thought it was about time I rambled on some more about my adventures though, and I´ve finally got around to uploading some photos to go with my other entries so take a look if you feel so inclined. I only ended up spending a couple of days in Granada before I decided I wanted to sit on buses all day again and so I set off for San Jose in Costa Rica. It took me 10 hours (3 buses and a wait at the border) to get there. When I arrived I obviously felt that I hadn´t had enough of buses because I decided I was going

I would have stayed for longer than I did if it weren´t so expensive and it also felt like cheating a bit because it really wasn´t like the rest of Latin America! There are so many expats and tourists there that it had a completely different culture and most people there spoke English so it was very easy! The island was really laid back and there were loads of young people there giving it a great atmosphere. It was sunny most of the time I was there and really nice being able to lie on the beach and going for a swim in the ocean every so often to cool off. Best of all was the fact that I could wander around wearing

I also reckon that Guatemala City has the loudest buses in the world and unfortunately they seemed to like driving past my window all night. On Thursday morning I´d barely set foot out of my hostel when I was shepherded onto a bus going to Chiquimula by a man who seemed to be in a hurry. Sadly I still had to wait over an hour for the bus to set off and the journey took a lot longer than it was supposed to because it kept stopping. Someone brought an actual live chicken onto the bus which made my

(Well, maybe it´s crowded, dirty etc. in other parts of the city but not where I´ve been!) I´ve been here for six days now and have managed to change my flight to Guatemala so I´m flying there tomorrow. Despite all my whining about how "expensive" things are in Mexico, I think I´ll miss this city! I´ve been passing the time wandering through parks and visiting monuments and museums so I should be very cultured now. I´ve been to the Museo Nacional de Antropologia (supposed to be excellent but I don´t know how you work out which museums are better than others!), the cathedral, the Palacio de Gobierno, Pancho Villa´s tomb (by coincidence on the anniversary of his

It was sad to leave Phoenix - I´ll miss Luba, Terry and Sean but at least I know I´ll probably be going back there before I go home. I also miss the guaranteed comfortable bed every night, air conditioning and clean water! On the bus into Mexico I was the only non-Mexican. I know this because when we got to the border at Nogales, the bus proceeded to drive straight through customs with no one worrying about getting their passports stamped. When I eventually realised that we weren´t actually stopping at all I had to make the driver stop the bus so that I could go back into the US, give them my green Visa waiver thing and then

It's been nice being back in Phoenix and seeing my relatives Luba, Terry and Sean. Nothing here has changed much so it all feels very familiar - like being at my second home! There are now four cats here, Sweepy and Tigger who were here before and Pepper and Tisha who are new. The cats only like me when they want to be fed. The journey here was long and boring but I met a nice guy on the plane, Jordan, which at
