Kitesurfing, one of the world’s fastest growing sports is about to hit main stream popularity in Ecuador. This sport that mixes the enjoyment of wave riding experienced in surfing, the adrenaline pumping high jumps and speed that was once only defined by windsurfing has taken over as a preferred adventure sport by those who love the water. Be it bay, ocean or lake; get ready to see many more kites appearing in the sky. In its 11 year history kitesurfing, also known as kiteboarding, has already lured more riders world wide than wind surfing and is rapidly gaining numbers on its predecessor surfing. Personally coming from a surfing background I never thought the day would come when I could compare the two but as the kitesurfers keep exploring the breaks around the world it is making ... read more

Little road trip, along the ecuadorian coast of the state of Manabi. 3 hours of pot holes, winding roads, road side stalls of tropical fruit, and homemade goodies, changing scenery, and ktie surfing obssesed boys, which means only one things hours of classic tales. It was crazy there is this one part of the journey that is called the oasis, as it is the only area in the state that has furtile land for agriculture. Not that I have even been to asia but it felt like indo our china all these rice fields, and well it is all asian decendents like chinese ecuadorians working the fields, very interesting what you stumble apon when you get out of the town you live in. Heading north i developed a passion for the local wooden houses on stilts, ... read more

Hello From The Salsa Capital of Sth America, Of course I am here with Claire. So much to catch up on. But i will just stick to the last few days and fill in the gaps some time later... Colombia is amazing like a spainsh speaking brazil... Perfect ey. Funny to the accent is a little different to the andean perivain, ecuasorean spanish that claire and i have been used to. But we are keen to conutine meeting locals to improve our understanding of the colombian twang. We took a 6am bus from Quito to the border town arriving at noon. MMM colombian border crossing was very easy actually, nice to have claire next to me, power in numbers right. Still dodgey as hell towns, and still not advised to travel thruough sthern colombia at ... read more

I was in my dorm room at around 7pm, when the bed started to rock i was thinking someone is getting lucky of the top bunk, until i saw the walls shaking as well then everyone was evacuated to the garden and into the crisp evening air of Cuzco. I felt sorry for the guys that we called out of the showers had to stand in towels for the 20mins until the tremors stopped. The next day I ended up getting a bus with the Marcelo and Carol to Lima. After reports on the news that the quake was 8.6 and had cause a lot of damaged in and around Lima. The highways were closed and airports only being used for aid purposes. I had a flight to Brazil to get on and the Boy to ... read more

After booking about 3 different tours and being up 3 days in a row at 3am, I finally got to the sacred site of Machu Picchu. So we were picked up from the hostel then it was a bus ride then a train ride, i was asleep for most of them so times are unknown. I was awoken by a shake from a lovely Ecuadorian man, i think i may have been nodding off on his shoulder but he was too polite to say anything. So made friends with Marcelo, Carlos from Quito and Agata the spanish speaking polish chicha. What to say, it was amazing and mystical, in such unimaginable location. It was also very touristy but you´ll get that at one of the 7 wonders of the world. so some americans I had meet ... read more

Quiet, peaceful, clean, beautiful, calm, tranquil....Cuzco What am i doing here??? no no it will be lovely, I just need to get used to the tourist scene again. Not knowing where anything is, having to ask about everything mmm not being the one with all the know how. I was so switched on to La Paz, I knew it.... Good news is I got my bus 8am Thursday morning, 3rd bus ticket latter mind you. I must stop talking to intriguing people so I find my way home to Australia and not keep thinking oh it would be grand to live in this place, I am learning so much I should just stay a little longer, and well the floods in England, not saying oh visit the mother country... more like stay where u are tiger. ... read more

I have safely back in La Paz after my fun little journey across the border. I just wanted to write and tell you about what a lovley day I have had. I was meant to be going to a baptism with Maria the cook at the hostel, she lives in El Alto. Now i agreed to going to this bapistim last night, yes when i was working at the bar, maybe had a few cheeky beers so seeing El Alto with a local was a grand idea... After visiting a rival hostels bar and then checking out another couple of hot spots in La Paz, which never ends at an early hour. But with Bolivian time being on my side, Maria was an hour late to meet me, so we just ended up going shopping as ... read more

So news flash, when travelling on an aussie passport you can only stay 30 days in Bolivia before they start charging you a daily over stay fine. Lucky this was pointed out to me whilst I still have a few days left I my visa! I am sitting in this little internet cafe in a peruvian border town call Yunguyo. On the bank of Lake Titicaca. Went for a wonder down there today for sunset, cows just chillin. Cholita ladies washing clothes, nice to see everyday life in motion, in different settings. I feel like a real traveller, getting off the beaten track, exploring random lake side towns the tranquillity and way of life. So was up at 7am this morning, which was an effort after running my first poker night at the hostel last night. ... read more
