Ten grandchildren for Nana & Grandpa, with the arrival of BabyS four weeks ago. Although I only found out three and a half weeks ago, after Daddy 'forgot' to mention it! Yes, really! He needs to do a lot to make up for that particular memory slip. Anyone else planning on having babies, getting married, etc, please route the news via me! I digress. Congratulations to UnclePirate and AuntyMwa, the lucky parents of wee BabyS! He is utterly adorable, and a good excuse to head to the Islands, as if one were needed! The first two nights we stayed at AuntyWisa's, to take full advantage of the bright lights and big city. Or at least, the swimming pool, pet shop and cafe, although Daddy did hit the town to wet the baby's head with BigD and ... read more

...had it for fifty years or more! So sang Grandad as we celebrated Nanny's milestone birthday many, many times over! Oh dear, poor Nanny, she will never be allowed to forget that she is older than Grandad. Never mind, we'll get you next year Grandad! A happy week down South, even happier in that Daddy came with us this time, so two adults to two kids on the plane, a fair ratio I feel! No, once again, kids were little stars both out and back. The secret? Snacks on the way up, snacks mid-air, and snacks coming down. Throw in a sticker book for G, an activity book for J. Sorted! Actually we were a little worried about even getting on the plane, G was just getting over a horrific bout of chickenpox, and was still ... read more

A little out of order, pics from Easter will be posted soon, but here are some photos from our own Grand National race. Unusually for a horse race, the horses were abandoned fairly early on, leaving loose riders to complete the course, some of whom needed a helping hand! Also, a cute pic of J with friend I who came to dinner on Tuesday. After tea she asked if they could wash up... help yourselves!... read more

Mummy took the two wee seasoned travellers South, to Kent to visit cousins B&R, Uncle Stiff, AuntyR, and the Great Rellies. And boy, was it cold! Snow fell almost constantly, although none of it settled, a desperately cruel situation for wee J to endure, we've had no decent snow at home, he's dying to build a snowman! I wish I'd packed a lot more jumpers and socks, not that the kids seemed to mind, must just be my old bones. B & AuntyR met us at the airport, and J was so happy to see them he did a full on, arms outstretched, slo-mo run across the concourse to meet them, and then pulled up short and hung his head shyly! Thursday was spent playing and getting to know each other again. Friday morning, despite the ... read more

Oh dear... how behind have I let this get? I've not even logged in this year, and February is almost over! Yes, I have some catching up to do, but I'm going to just jump right in where we are now with what would be the latest blog and work to fill in the gaps when I can. I have inspiration in that I've just had the first two years made into photo books, and they are so lovely to look back at, and both the kids love seeing the photos, so I will keep it up, for their sake! So, where are we?! Nana and Grandpa left this morning after a lovely long weekend, happily including Nana's birthday on Saturday. Happy Birthday to you, Nana! Considering last Wednesday morning we had snow, the weather has ... read more

Any excuse, eh?! And I'm proud to say that most of what you'll see in the accompanying pictures was handmade in Scotland, right here in your correspondent's kitchen, in fact. Everything but the lederhosen, I'm not taking credit for those! Oktoberfest is a time honoured celebration of our American friends, and of course one of Daddy's personal favourites. He supplied two 'pins' (half kegs, i.e. 2x40pints) of beer for the event. He in the rather enviable position of having more beer than he knows what to do with right now, producing 160 pints most weekends, but not quite being able to sell it yet. And it was warmly received by all the men (and one or two ladies) in leather shorts at the party. I went for the more demure 'dirndl', with a long apron made ... read more

Publishing these pics now because I know the clan will be keen to see the pics, but it's much too late at night to cobble together some witty repartee to accompany the photos. So for now, enjoy the pics and check back in the next few days when I'll have had time to give it some proper thought, but right now my brain is snoring and I need to go to bed! 'Night!! x... read more

Really should have got this up before Nanny and Grandad headed off into the sunset on their swanky Mediterannean cruise, but it'll give Dad something to spend all his money on, trying to download to his Blackberry out there! Buongiorno Papa! Intrepid Mummy braved the skies once again, taking two small children to see their Nanny & Grandad. I've flown several times now with just the two of them, but that was before G could walk, run, jump and climb, and before G realised she really, really wants the iPod when J has it. Deep breath... But in the event it was completely fine, timings worked out in our favour, both children sleeping on the way to the airport, lunch on the plane and a well timed mid-air poo from J, unbelievably requested while the seatbelt ... read more

Here are a few outstanding photos from over the summer that I wanted to share on the blog. We didn't have a great harvest in the garden this year, for many reasons, including weather, rogue chickens, general forgetfulness on our part and over enthusiastic toddlers. We did have lots of berries, the strawberries and raspberries are always a huge hit and Daddy's keen propogation skills mean we have dozens of the plants sprouting up all over the place. Kids (ours and others) enjoyed digging for potatoes and pulling up carrots. Mummy also took the kids foraging on the golf course for elderflowers. How handy, a giant elderflower bush, right next to a sandpit for the wee ones to play in... oh, sorry, what's a practice bunker? It was worth it though, first prize in the 'Other ... read more

Just a quick one... Our town got its own golden post box, honouring an Olympic gold medal winner, an athlete with somewhat tenuous links to the place, having attended a very swanky private school nearby, and more recently her parents retired here. Not exactly 'local quine done good', but nevertheless warmly welcomed 'home' and embraced as one of our own and now we have one more local landmark for everyone to pose their kids in front of! Completely unrelated, I took J & G to a nearby aquarium for a day trip, which was a huge hit, particularly with J, who is rather keen on fish. We went for lunch afterwards at a soft play centre, where they enjoyed playing on these rocking horses. And Mummy has been having fun playing on real horses too, thanks ... read more
