Happy New Year to you Ali. I too went to Borobudur temple in September 2004. Your photos recalled me of my happy time there. The temple you forgot the name of is Mendut.

Why is it that everything sacred apart from sacred shut eye winks, must best done before sunrise, yoga, meditation, bus trips to spiritual sites. But then the sun comes up and it all makes sense. Lovely pictures Ali. So what about the info...X

WHALE SHARK - From: Diving with Whale Sharks - OMG!
You have done a mervelous job! personally I havent seen a whale shark but, the depth of your story is magnificent. Its more than being in the water. Words picked anf sewed together in a sequence, action following each other as you explain I am left speechless. Keep it up. Next time let me know when you are doing diving so that I can get the story.

Jealous! - From: Diving with Whale Sharks - OMG!
Reading this brings back memories of snorkeling with whale sharks on the Ningaloo reef in west Oz...that was pretty special. Now I really want to go back! Did you upload any of your photos to the Eco Ocean photo library project? They're cataloging each whale sighting...the spots are like fingerprints! And your shots are fantastic for identification!

Hello Ali I am on my way back up the coast of Brazil to Sao Paulo and looked in here to see what you have to say about the places I visited on this trip. Just shows what a big country this is, because you didnt blog about any of the same places as I visited. A few more days of warm tropical weather, before flying back to freezing Germany for me. But, I dont mind much, because it is almost Christmas and Christmas and 30C outside just wouldnt feel like Christmas. Mel

Yes, OMG - those sharks are so much bigger than the ones we saw in Sea Life, in Munich. I showed them to my daughter and told her if she sees any on our upcomming trip to Thailand, she is to come out of the water right away. I suppose, they are safe since you lived to show the photos. I am not sure I would be willing to test that though. :D ''...maybe enjoying the relief from the constant itching of the ramorays or maybe just enjoying the bubbles flowing around it's body. '' ...as long as they were not sizing up todays dinner...

Fantastic pictures and a great blog. I've never seen a whale shark but I saw a documentary about them not long ago - they sound amazing! I know how tiring life in a foreign city can be; it's hard to live at your own pace with so many commitments, but the trick is to find good friends, which you obviously have, and be a bit more stubborn than you would be at home!

I remember stumbling down that grotty old beach with a pair of flippers and a mask over ten years ago. I saw a load of old gray wreck, got caught in a tornado of jack - but jack all else - how do you do it? I only wish the elastic umbilical of internet access didn't prevent you from heading way out east from there - where even I, armed with just mask, managed to discover another-under-worldly paradise. One can only imagine what you'd find and document in hyper-color (genuinely an exciting prospect). So anyway, that's the brown-nosing out the way - you seem to be getting more 'hits' than me nowadays, are you sure you're not massaging the figures from the inside?

Technical issues - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
I would like to say that the city seems to lack public internet access. I barely found a free hotspot. The most interesting thing is that even coffeshops such as Starbuck's or Pizza Hut have developped a greedy system: you have to pay to use their hotspot. At the moment I am writing from a coffeshop near Leoforos Nikis. I relly cannot remember Greek names [it's very difficult!!]. Do you actually have some suggestions concerning this internet issues? As for the city, I enjoy it very very much. It's a dream came true! I adore Thessaloniki!

Armpit - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
I 've had an experience similar to Ali's in Thessaloniki. I seriously think the place is an armpit. It's disorganised, everything he says about traffic is true and the drivers are hostile for no reason at all. None of that famous laid-back greek attitude one would expect. Everyone seemed very stressed and moody. The train station and the trains are beyond belief. It's like entering a time tunnel. Bar-life was great though. I had fun cause I manage to have fun wherever I go but the city is a toilet.

Re: Canon G9 - From: Mola Mola and Manta Madness! - Diving Nusa Penida, Bali
Yes - these shots are all from the Canon G9 - with Canons underwater housing. Overall - a great camera - underwater - not an SLR - with all the associated pros-and-cons of that. There is a slight problem with noise on high ISO's compared to my DSLR - but - given it's size and compact nature - and that underwater you've got so much noise with particles anyway... cost/size/results - I'm very happy with it. Thanks for all the comments!

No Mad Monk - From: Muay Thai in Chiang Mai; Lessons from the House of Pain
Not when I was there - though there was an emphasis on the mind also, we learned traditional chants, a little about Buddhism - and about the history of Muay Thai - I have a lot of respect for Pedro - the school was great - and I hope to go back one day and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in more than just the physical aspects of the martial art.

Give the guy a break! - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
I visited the city for the brilliant film festival last year, I know Greeks are proud and not good at taking criticism but you have to admit whilst the festival is great, the commercial centre is great, the views of the snow capped mountains are awe inspiring...the holes in the pavements, the cables lying everywhere, ugly building blocks and unattended building sites do not do a lot for the image of the place. I have to say everyone I met was lovely, I must ask, did you try talking Greek?

Candles - From: Photos from The Vatican - the world's smallest country
I also checked out the "candle holders" while visiting the dome... they do seem to fit the bill of what i would think they would look like. Also, if you check out the wall that would be directly behind you when looking at the elevated portion with the holders, there are great big steel hooks for a rope or chain. They are obviously in connection with the supposed candle holders as they are only located where the holders are.

Best Panorama I have seen in recent memory. Am I partial because I love Chile? Perhaps, but who else has posted a juicy pictures of a smoking volcano summit?! The rest of the pics are great too, tons of people post this trip on travelblog but few have attempted to capture all the sights- big and small- along the way. Good job!

Nice story, nice pictures, I like it too. I promised to tell you about Mendoza: great town. I recommend you to taste wines at The Vines, near the main Plaza de Independencia. GREAT. We went hiking from a little town Las Vegas, which was unfortunately not the best place to start. Head further north to Vallecitos for good hiking in the Andes, but be carefull with the weather though. I am in Salta already, still together with Stephany. We keep in contact, have fun!

Loved the photos and blog on Rio Carnaval. I spent three & a half years in Rio back in '54 through half of '58. It was the best time of my life. In those years they used to hand out pressurized canisters of perfume to the masses and the whole city would have this glorious smell. I learned they had to stop the practice as people would huff the cannister. Too bad. Anyway, Enjoy! The best, Chazlin

i just read this entry today... and thank god that u and others are still in one piece... what can i say? in this case (and many others) i wont be hesitant to say that im ashame to be a Malaysian. the authorities seem to have the mentality where they'll only buck up when things happen!! sad to say that sometimes even, nothing's being done at all!! few days in the news and that's it - sooner or later it will be forgotten... im sorry u get this in KL. hope ur journey down the road will be a much better one... safe trip!

Beautiful pictures - From: ˇViva Cuenca!
I consider myself (as an Ecuadorian who moved to New York 14 years ago, I'm 27) not a patriotic individual, however after watching the pictures you took from Cuenca, my hometown, I have to tell you that they filled my heart with Nostalgia. specially the ones of the children. I had a Vuja De, (the opposite of a Deja Vu) I remember myself being part of such festivities as a child. November third, we celebrate the Indepencence of Cuenca, and if you thought that that was a colorful festival, and if you have a chance, go back during Christmas season, where there are numerous parades dedicated to the birth of Christ. It is an amazing cultural spectacle. Take care

Been there it was wonderful - From: Diving Sulawesi - Bunaken
Allstair, I stayed on Bunaken Island in 1998, it was the best snorkeling experience I've ever had. I love the island. Too bad it's so close to Manado, you know it's going to be ruined soon by overpopulation. The other islands are good too though.

Yes - it was close to Manado - From: Diving Sulawesi - Bunaken
I did see a lot of trash washing up on the shores of Bunaken - and the odd plastic bag while diving! I don't know if it is improving or not - but I was happy enough diving there :) Thanks for the tip on Togian islands - unfortunately I'm in KL now, given the chance I'll go back to Sulawesi.

Let the marine biologists debate... - From: Diving Sulawesi - Bunaken
The Place you seek is the Togian Islands. I hope you are still in Sulawesi so you can head down there. I won't go into too much detail now, let it be our secret;-) Also the islands around komodo and east of Flores will bring you to some of the least disturbed and magical dive spots in the world. In my humble opinion Bunaken was (at least 10 years ago) too popular and alas too close the big City of Manado and it's big dirty river. There used to be a joke doing the rounds back then to ask people who went to Bunaken if they saw the plastic bag fish? How is it now, have they cleaned up their act? Happy travels P.S. And commendation on a noble recovery from the August 2007 crash!

I have lived in Thessaloniki for three years and agree with the author. People--if they don't know you--are beyond rude. I even had a woman walk off in a huff once when my attempt to answer her request for directions in halting Greek was too slow for her. Definately an ugly city with an ugly dog-eat-dog mentality.

Your photos are AMAZING to say the least!! You definitely have an eye for underwater photography. I've been to the Perhentian Islands twice before, and dived there, and I must say it is one of my favourite places I have ever visited. I only have an advanced certificate, so I certainly cannot match your 300 dives, but I still enjoy diving (even if London doesn't really offer much of it, hehe!). I have attampted underwater photography, mainly as part of my advanced open water course, but also on my own, but I find it extremely hard to take good pics (the light, having a steady hand, predicting if/when the object is going to move, etc). Is it your own camera, and if so, what sort do you use? Good luck finding another place like the Perhentians, I've searched and still haven't found it...... Eva

- From: Latvia
You can not buy the gun in Latvia without being citizen and having a special permission. You can only buy gas gun (blank firing loaded with tear gas) if you are 18 years old, and that was what you've seen. Obviously you don't need a shooting range for gas guns. You could also buy a soft air pneumatic weapon for the same price, but it can not be used for self defense. Gas gun costs from about 35 GBP to 300 GBP while real guns may cost 350 GBP and more. What you've called "A church" is in fact Russian Orthodox Christian cathedral, orthodox Christianity is not the main religion in Latvia, the #1 are Lutherans and you can see a big Lutheran church in the picture you called "Old Town". Also a factual error - there are only 0.9 million people live in Riga. And with 2.5 million of total country population it really looks big. The fact you've visited the museum of occupation is funny. It was a real waste of your time. There is a small museum in the heart of Riga (inside the Dome Cathedral) where you could see really interesting things. It is called "Museum of history and maritime" if I remember right. Visit it when you'll get old and will go on your final world tour. For your information, museums of occupation are pieces of cold war between countries. In Latvia and Ukraine such museum shows fantasies about Russian monsters. In Northern Ireland this could be a grief story about English atrocities. I believe every weak nation must have such museum. But it's just my humble opinion :)

I my self have climbed this volcano back in 1992/93 when I was with my parents, we started climbing the volcano around Eight o’clock and reached the summit around dawn in time for breakfast the views where spectacular!!!! Robinson Crusoe Island - From: Robinson Crusoe Island
I stayed on Robinson Crusoe island a few years ago when a friend and i spent a week or so in Fiji during a trip round asia and australia. It was so laid back it defied belief, perfect weather, beautiful sea and scenery, fantastic hosts and plenty of travellers who were just as impressed as we were. Days spent lazing around doing nothing and evenings watching the show performed by ziggy and co (the lads and lasses who work on the island) then having a few drinks and singing songs round the bonfire. It was a bit of a reality check when we finally left after 3 or 4 days and got back to main land Fiji, never mind when we finally arrived back in England! I would definately recommend a visit to this beautiful island if you are visiting Fiji any time soon! Ste

Thanks for the pics. My family hiked Yosemite in August, 2006, definitely as good as it gets. May not be far enuf removed from population for some people's taste, but the people you cross pahts with are generally more enjoyable and in a better mood than most places. How can you not be. Besides it is easy to find space to be out of the site of people and take in the views. So what if it's only 5 min away from others versus 24 hrs. For a person who spends most of my time inside 4 walls, I won't dare complain.

Just look at the World around you... right here on the ocean floor... - From: Memoirs of a Divemaster Trainee
... such wonderful things around you. What more is you looking for? Oh The Little Mermaid. It says it all. I saw a pic from your blog on the main page and then when I saw your name, I had to check it out. I actually JUST got my open water certification last weekend in Utila. Like you, I also figured "why not if it's the cheapest place!?" I am SOOO glad I did it. I am still in awe of it all days later. The DMT training sounds pretty intense... not sure that I could do it. My DMT told me I was a natural though and that she can see me doing it. It's definately a new interest of mine, that's for sure. Your stress test sounds hard though. Just not quite ready for that yet I suppose, although only having 4 dives under my belt may have something to do with that. Anyways, just wanted to say CONGRATS on becoming a Dive Master. I know it's a lot of work and not everyone can appreciate the amazingness that is diving. For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who don't, no explanation will ever be enough.

So I went on your blog to see if you added some news, and I read your writtings! Im happy to have some pics in my head of what you have done in the last few months. Nostalgia fill my whole body and my soul today.. I miss travelling.. so much.. the most beautiful gift I did to myself in my life. Thessaloniki is great! - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
I am from Athens and not Thessaloniki so I'll try and be as objective as I can. I have visited the city twice and this is my opinion. I think Thessaloniki is a great city. There are lovely parts of the city that need exploring. I don't know if you had the chance to visit some of those areas but describing Thessaloniki as a dump is uncalled for. And I too have traveled around the world including but not limited too NYC, London, Rome, Orlando, Chicago, etc. And I can say that even those world class cities have negatives but it wouldn't be right to brand them as "dumps" for whatever reason! Anyway, with that said, I do agree with you about the traffic! The traffic in Thessaloniki is absolutely horrendous (especially along the sea front going towards the white tower). I think that most Greeks would agree with that statement! But overall, I think that Thessaloniki is modernizing, a new metro will be built, the white tower area is being revamped and the city is being cleaned up even more! Let's hope Thessaloniki becomes a world class city like I know it can! Cheers!

Unfortunately, Not Sequoias - From: Crazy Arsed Adventures in Bear Country
Your photo is of Red Fir Trees, not Sequoia's. Sequoia's grow in a very limited range in the Sierra's, the only groves of of Sequoia's in Yosemite N.P. being the Merced grove off the Hwy 120 North Entrance and the Mariposa Grove off Hwy 41 South entrance- both nowhere near Yosemite Valley. Sadly enough Yosemite is so world famous you truly can not get a wilderness experience there. To truly see no one else but your group for more than 24 hours in the wilderness of the Sierra Nevada, you must go to Sequoia NP , Kings Canyon NP, or the many National Forest Wilderness areas between Lake Tahoe and Sequoia N.P.!

give the ottomans (and the americans) their due - From: Unexpected Belgrade
the castle you talk about in belgrade, where the sava and danube rivers meet, is the kalemegdan. it's mostly ottoman turkish, dating more or less to the 1700s, with earlier parts from the medieval serbian kings. the hungarians were on the other side of the river. there is a similar (bigger) austro-hungarian fortress, the petrovardan, at novi sad, also on the danube about an hour's drive north of belgrade. belgrade did get hit by the americans as part of the nato bombardment in 1999 (hence the 3 or 4 government buildings in the centre with puncture holes and burn marks from tomohawk missiles) and still - as of 2006 - hasn't been fixed up much.

Hey Ali, Glad to hear the wi-fi is still working. I saw that you've been to Burma and was hoping you could give me your comments on it. I will only have 12 days there and am trying to figure out my route. I also had an idea for this site. If each entry had a 'lodging' portion, where people could write a quick review of their guesthouse, hostel, hotel...then people could search by area and read what people said about where they stayed. Anyway, just an idea. Could be seperated by price range, or have a star system 0-5 stars or whatever. Safe travels! Kevin

this is hillarious - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
to say that Thessaloniki is a dump is like saying that the sea is not blue!!! i really wonder where you come from my friend. It must be a great city, otherwise you would not have said all those things about thessalonika. All the people that were nice to you (for some reason) are great and you look back with colourful thoughts regarding them but all others you despise. HOW STRANGE!!! no-one disagrees that the traffic conditions are notoriously bad but this is the main flaw of the city, hence you went over and over discussing it. I live in UK for some years but I'm always anxious to visit Thessaloniki and be a part of this crazyness because it is a part of who we are. People there are flexible and easy to communicate with, unlike people here in England who are unwilling to go beyond their absolute duties and are always rude to foreigners pretending they do not understand what they're saying because of a false pronounciation of words. Anyway, i hope there are many people who will agree that Thessaloniki is beautiful in its own way and those of us who have grown up there and really know it should be the ones to judge it. Not all you temporary visitors

Strongly recommend it to anyone looking for an tropical island paradise and who enjoys mixing with lots of international backpackers. Made such a change from the likes of Suva and Nadi. And yeah, you were so right about the police station in the middle of nowhere! And if you're heading back up to Nadi after leaving the island, try and get the boat transfer all the way up the coast

To Remember Me... - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
Without a name I don't know who you are - anyway a few corrections - I stayed for free, on the floor of my xgf's room for a lot less than a month (less than 2 weeks) and ate at the menza only a few times - for which I am and was grateful. I think you're probably one of the greek students I met, you guys were all great - I had the best time in Thessaloniki when I hung out with you. But I reserve my right to have my opinions and won't change them due to it being a long time. This blog is also a lesson: there are an equal number of positive and negative points made about the city - but it's the negative points that draw all the attention. The same things could be written about London or Mexico City or Budapest. Yeah - "dump" is a little harsh - but that was my immediate impression and when I left I was glad. Putting personal judgements about me based on my opinions of a city that I openly state that I had a bad time in is silly and petty - to be honest I only even think about Thessaloniki when I get a comment on this blog... happy 2006 to all in Thessaloniki - I know if I was to go back I'd have a better time, but I'd stay just a few days and not try to work.

Remwmber me?
It's been a long time Ali - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
...and I hope now you can judge things better. It's a fact that you had a bad time in Thessaloniki (in adition to your g/f ) but you should also consider that for a month or so you were staying here for free in the dormitory eating at the university's menza for free althought you're not a student or something and even using a public wireless network for your laptop... From your last post it seems that you're still ungratefull but I hope time will heal your "trauma" and you will reconsider.

Well I stumbled along this site by sheer chance, I am from England but I have been living here in Thessaloniki for 3 years now, I have also lived in Athens (which is a dump I may ad) and many other places, Thessaloniki is an amazing place, I know hundreds of foreigners living here from all over the world America England and Austrialia etc etc and Thessaloniki is loved by everyone, Its become a bit of a joke lately that everyone I invite here from abroad ends up staying, no wonder Thessaloniki is the 2nd most expensive place in Europe to by a house by the square meter now, as everyone wants to live here. So really I think I can say that its a proven fact by the thousands of foreigners here that you are quite wrong about your theory of thessaloniki, obviously it just wasnt you month or something

I was there last Sept.2005. I have stayed with my girfriend she is from Varna, I'm from United States and from a sunny states with a big ocean and beaches I loved the city, the people, the hospitality of the very friendly local that I have talked to , exchanged ideas with and had a great time. If wone day I would to leave United States I know where I would like to go and live and be very very happy. Life in Varna is beautiful the people are great if you really talk to them closely and visit their homes. My wish is to go there and live for the rest of my life.

One more detail... - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
The really good city, does not require from a foreigner to have good local knowledge of the place in order to get by! It must provide for him what is necessary: transport, info, MENTALITY! So yes, Ali had and still has a very limited idea of the place, but he is not supposed to "pay local guides" in order to take him through the jungle:)

Hard truth - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
Gents, I am also a citizen of Thessaloniki even though I have been living abroad since the age of 19. As it usually happens in life, truth is somewhere in the middle: Ali, being a foreigner, could not really know where to go, what to do, how to behave. He did see a very small part of the city. So, it is too early for him to have a concrete opinion. However, he is right that Thessaloniki looks like a huge backwater city where nothing really catches the eye. Architecture: does not exist. People: poor with old mentality and limited modern understanding of the world (that is why our sports teams fail repeatedly and all our good scientists leave either for abroad or Athens). The city is not organised to receive foreigners and travellers. The buses do not even have a diagram of the route and the bus stops! Things are changing (these are the good news) but we are a few years away (these are the bad news). Big public constructions will "drag the Thessalonikians by the hair" to start thinking big and not like villagers as they do know! Howver, Thessaloniki RULES! AThens is the real dump!

Dump & Thessaloniki - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
I stand by my description - I've seen thousands of cities world wide. Foti: thanks for the personal assumptions - all wrong. Phaeden: Yes you are biased - if you like the city and enjoy your life there - great. I had a bad time there - I don't blame the city or people but it coloured my view of it, and a lot of it is ugly - granted earthquakes and fires have made it that way. If you want to have a rose coloured view of Thessaloniki - please just read the positives section.

You obviously didn't go visit the right places... - From: Thessaloniki Trauma
Thessaloniki is maybe the most beautiful and livable city in Greece, not only in my opinion which is biased since I live there, but also in the opinion of thousands of people I have met from all over Greece. Granted there are the problems that you described (rudeness, almost crazy traffic) but it is not such a big deal if you are used to it; which you obviously weren't. To call it a dump is just ridiculous... anyway as we say in Greece "we can't be liked by Everyone"...

finished - From: Photos from The Vatican - the world's smallest country
The dome itself was completed by Della Porta (who took over when Michelango died) in May 1590. Pope Paul V decided the design of the Greek Cross was too small, and had Maderno pull down the front wall and extend the eastern end by 116 yards. That part was finished in 1626. The colonnade (Bernini)was built over the next 30 years. - Rachel

I'm really impressed to see St. Sava. I spent 2 months in Belgrade doing a practical training back in 2002. Back then it was all gray and completely empty and dark inside. It really made me want to go back. I'm from Mexico, btw. - Jim

Nessebar - From: Nessebar or Nesebar - seen both.
I have been in Nessebar last summer, and i've spent some nice time there. It's real cheap, even for Serbs who has monthly income of about 200 euro. Big glass of tequila is about 50ct :) Lunch in restaurant is real cheap too. There are great number of foregin tourists, meny Swedish chick :) You must be watchful when you change money in exchange offices, because Bulgarians are big thiefs. Official rate was 1.9 lev=1 euro. If you want to go there, go before the August15th, because of the weather. Have a nice time in Bulgaria, and maybe visit Montenegro first! - Jovo from Serbia

To Commentator - World Traveller - From: Varna, 7000 years of history.
I could easily delete your comment, but I'll respond: 1. Saw them very impressive, worth visiting Varna for, journal to follow. 2 & 3. Didn't see them. 4. What? 5. When I'm on the road fashion shopping is not a top priority. 6. When - not when I was there. 7. Better beaches to the south. Finally - what have you got against people from the UK? Your comment is one of the most ridiculous and predjudiced I've ever read. Care to share your journal?

Thank you Mr Watters - From: Varna, 7000 years of history.
Or Ali? You seem to be having difficulties deciding what is good in life and what not...Instead of just acting accordingly. Of course being from the UK it is understandable... Some of the things which you obviously missed out in Varna: 1.Ethnological Museum: Some of the World's earliest gold ornaments. 2.Varna Summer: An International Classical Music Festival 3.Jazz Music Festival 4.Healthier looking people than the product of fish and chips/mad cow diet. 5.Shopping for fashion / healthy food... 6.Beer festival 7.And of course the beach - not just there for collecting Cockles & Mussels but actually to swim in water nearing upper 30 C while the wonderfully catered for beaches allow you to relax ... but oh no there is a problem here - most ladies are topless, so if you aren't comfortable with the dogs doing their thing, this will really be a problem for you... Here is a hint from a master world traveller: If you want to obtain the full benefit from your visit to a place, forget where you come from. If you don't succeed at first , try harder - it's OK, we understand... The British conquered the world and changed the way tea is drunk to suit their taste... I suppose it is in your genes. May I suggest reading "The Tao oh Pooh"...? PS.:It's OK for dogs to be copulating out in the open on a bright summer day. Isn't this what British Rock Knighthood bearing Sirs teach us? Keep safe on the road. - World Traveller

It sounds like a great few hours in Belgrade. Your pictures are terrific! On a side note the "Belgrade Cathedral" is actually St.Sava Temple and it's not being rebuilt or renovated, it's actually still being built. A slow and arduous process that started again in 1985. Great work. I'm off to read more of your travels.

Gannets at Cape Kidnappers - From: Art Deco City
There are two Gannet colonies at Cape Kidnappers, the main colony on the Cape itself and a secondary colony at Black Reef (both are shown in the photos on the blog). The main colony has over 5,000 nesting pairs and is the only mainland nesting colony of the Australasian Gannet in the world. The juvenials leave the nest and travel the Pacific and Indian oceans for a couple of years and then return to the Cape around November to find a mate which they mate with for life. Each year thereafter they return to the same spot to raise young. The Gannet colonies of Cape Kidnappers are truly an amasing place well worth the visit!

Strangly enough my younger brother ended up there as well as part of his RTW (Round the World Trip) - he didn't know I'd been there before him. There is an opportunity to help out all sorts of people with advice, I hope there will even be some questions on UK travel sometime.

Which one gave you the chills Savage? The Stag Beetle or the Hornet or the Mosquito - I'm still itching like crazy from letting the mosquito bite for long enough to take a photo. The Stag Beetle was quite friendly and didn't mind crawling on my hands and arm :)

Our son has just emailed us to say he was on his way to Robinson Crusoe Resort, breaking his trip back home to New Zealand from California. His father and I now are in London,(well, his Dad is working in Amsterdam right now!) and his elder brother is in Australia. He arrives just after some fairly major storms and flooding in other parts of Fiji. I hope there is a coconut left for him!!! cheers, Mum.
