Ali and Al Get Wed - Ali and Al Read

Ali and Al Read We're getting married! And as it's a little out of the ordinary, we've started this blog to keep you updated on our 'Weddingmoon'!

Briefly, at the beginning of August we leave Goldsboro for a month’s vacation in and around Alaska. While there we’ll spend a week in the Alaskan capital, Juneau, during which we’ll jump in a helicopter and fly up to the Mendenhall Glacier to get hitched on the ice!

Subscribe to this blog, or pop by regularly to get updates and pics, including our wedding photos as soon as they're available!!

Enjoy! xx

Dear friends, Much has happened since we last updated this blog! We’ve travelled by helicopter, small plane, big plane, bus, boat, kayak, bike and dog sled! We’ve looked down on the highest peak in America. We’ve seen whales, seals, otters and sealions; bears, moose and wolves; puffins and eagles. Not to mention, of course, the whole wedding thing! We have photos of all this and more, far too many to post here, so we’ve picked a few favourites for now, and in the meantime we’ll try to keep this brief in the hope that we’ll get round to actually posting something [View Full Entry]

Dear Family, friends, and other assorteds.... Many, many heartfelt thanks for all the messages, comments, emails, carrier pigeons, smoke signals, etc that we've received over the last few days, we've been overwhelmed by the response, so thank-you, thank-you! In an ideal world we'd get round to replying to everyone individually, but we are on our honeymoon after all! ;-) No, actually, we're in Anchorage now and don't have access to broadband where we're staying, so we'll be relying on internet cafes and the Comfort Suites car park for internet and emails. We will try to update the blog with the latest [View Full Entry]

Dear wedding watchers, Here's the news: We're still not married... yet! It turns out that Juneau is located in a temperate rainforest, and the funny thing about rainforests is that it rains a lot. Coming from Stornoway and Plymouth, we're not afraid of a little rain, so we started today with champers in the outdoor hot-tub (in the rain) got dressed in our wedding finery, went outside for pictures (in the rain), drove to the heliport (in the rain), and were astonished to find that we couldn't fly because of cloud. The outlook is similar for tomorrow, but a lot better [View Full Entry]

Watch out for more of this guy in 2010 when Whistler/Vancouver host the winter olympics
We’re now checked into our honeymoon hotel in Juneau, and really we should have better things to do than log on and write the blog, but lots to tell, so we’ll try to keep up to date. Next entry will probably be after the deed is done, so if anyone out there knows of any good reason why we two should not be joined in matrimony, email now, or forever hold your peace! We left you in Whistler… Whistler is best known as a top winter sports destination, but it also makes a pretty decent summer sports destination too. They had [View Full Entry]

Gladiators Ready!!!

Wow! We have just checked into the most amazing hotel - the Adara in Whistler, all very hip and designer! We have a faux mink throw on the bed, a rainshower head in the bathroom, wallmounted fireplace and a funky red chaise longue thingy! (“Louisa would definitely approve of this place!” - Al). Only problem is I want to listen to the soothing sounds dream machine (hmm… ‘ebb tide’ or ‘rainforest’?) while Al wants to plug his iPod into the Bose sound system. And if he didn’t have an iPod he could just go get a complimentary one from reception and [View Full Entry]
