Had to get up early to watch the dolphin feeding in Monkey mia, starts at 7am and runs to about 10am... 3 feeding sessions all up. One of the dolphin has just given birth, so visitors were told to keep their distances from the beach... Volunteering options available, you work half a day in the morning to help care for the dolphins, inquries directed towards the Monkey mia visitors center. Again another beautiful beach with clear warm water... could live here... Maybe I will come back to Monkey Mia one day... 10km outside of Monkey Mia, we found a lagoon, clear blue waters, about 3km wide, really shallow though, not even waist deep water, the deepest point is all the way in the center and is about 3m... So a little paddle... Met some Austrian guys ... read more

Reached the small town of Denham by nightfall, fuelled up some petrol at the local service station, we got some freebies in the form of pies and pasties from the owners, people in Denham seemed quite nice to backpackers. Rather windy on the beach, check out the sea gulls in the pictures. Shell beach is 50km south of Denham, entire beach is made up of billions of shells, hence the beach is completely white and does glare in the sun. Really beautiful beach, should have stayed there for abit longer.... read more

The sunrise in the West is always so early, daylight around 5am, we have been up around 6am these few days... Back in Melbourne, if I don't have morning tutorials, tennis training or work, it is impossible to see me wake before 10am... I LIKE to sleep in... Drove 200km from Geraldton to Kalbarri national park, saw our first outback gorge and river... The swim was great in the river, though a bit shallow was the river, deepest part around 1.8meters, most at 0.5 meter, so safe enough, but watch out for the currents in the middle, can be quite strong and crabs biting your toes... Showers in the outback can be a real luxury, due to the lack of fresh water, some road houses offer showers for 5 dollars, so probably a good investment, especially ... read more

Finally got the campervan, 2011 model car, only done 15000km... If you guys ever need hire campervans, we recommend going onto the backpacker campervan website and have a look, our camper sleeps 4, even has a fridge for beer and a microwave. Fun driving... First stop, Pinnacles, 250km from Perth... Pinnacles has a ranger's office, 11 dollar entry fee for car, over 5000 ancient stones, all naturally formed, noone really know how they got there, against a dessert like background... Geraldton was another 350km up North, we decided to bunker down there for the night, right by the beach... shame we didn't read the no camping sign... got woken up by the ranger... So lesson learnt, rangers do NOT go away by TRYING TO ignore them, they knock even louder to wake you up... always read ... read more

West Coast adventure 2011 4 people, 1 campervan, 7000km of driving, countless cities, towns, beaches, lagoons, gorges, waterfalls, swimming holes, mosquitoes, road houses and drinks… Here is our story and hopefully this will inspire you to take the journey as well… Our story began in Perth… Flew in from Melbourne on Qantas flight, 4 hours, don't know much of the flight, cos I was half asleep. Stayed a few days in Perth, did the usually tourist thing, while we waited for our campervan to arrive. Really like the city, nice and modern, few good areas to hang out, would recommand North Bridge, we stayed at the backpackers -GLOBLE... good atmosphere, lots of backpackers from various places, if you want some company definitely go there...... read more
