What to Expect in June in Alaska - The first thing that comes to mind is daylight. Even in Ketchikan they are up over 16 hours of daylight. They get up to 17 hours of daylight on summer solstice, June 21st. In Fairbanks it never gets dark in June. Although the sun does set, it barely goes down behind the White Mountains and comes right back up. Folks ask me all the time "When is the best month to go to Alaska... Wild flowers start to bloom in late April and never stop until the snow flies. There is not a "best month for the flowers". Each of the summer months adds something different to the mix and I would hate to try to say which is the best. We have resident whales in Alaska.
