What a thoroughly delicious travel diary...the best of the best.....pure pleasure to trail along your adventures....should you wish to stay and NOT return, I know Julian will be available to take care of the house, but if he's doing other things, let me know and I'll fly out to San Fran and sit until winter sets into the Greek Isles.....if never....well, what can I say......LOVE and HUGS, Naomi

Vienna
Oh what a trip down memory lane! You describe Vienna so beautifully. I remember the Spanish riding school well and that, mixed with elegant opera, incredible Torte, dancing the Viennese waltz's and riding the Ferris wheel that showed you the whole city. What a trip and then to Salburg and more opera and wonderful countryside. When are you home??

What a great description of Eva's workshop and your night at the 'opera'. And then the courage of going to see the Holacaust images. I know how deeply I was affected by the pictures coming out of New Orleans this past week. And I can only imagine what it must be like to look at the photos of Auschwitz. There is a psychic energy that is still present and the impact of that alters one's emotional state for some time. The suffering in our world is monumental both past and present. I am not sure what it will take for us to behave as ONE... Love serena

thank you for the depth and peace of Bach's music. I wonder if churches are filled proportionaly to the depth of music understood and played? That Sunday, I was concluding a 3 day silent retreat in my home, using gregorian chant and Indian devotional music. They seemed one and the same, after a time! When do you return? I want to ask you something about China. I remember being in Seville for Holy Week one year and the 'dark, brutal experience of the penitentes sweeping through the streets in their cloaks and masks was not pleaant. The darker side of the church is still much in evidence. As is the goodness and longing to help (re our disasater here). Amen! Thanks so much for your thougtful pictures and comments. Alan, thanks for including me in your travel reports. I am enjoying your news from Hamburg! I have not been there since I worked on the photography for a German Food book for Time-Life in 1968... I got together with your friend Marty Newman last night after I finished a workshop in San Rafael. I enjoyed meeeting him and was very impressed with his travel portraits of China - they are beautiful and straight from the heart! I am looking forward to your next blog! Eva, how is the class? It appears typical for a German, to be self absorbed and confused at the fact , why are we not loved by our "guest workers" and at the same time wishing they would go home. Do you still feel an anti-American undertone? It is rightfully anti-Bush and anti-War anyhow. Have a restful weekend and kiss for Eva. Peter

Well, that was a beautiful, lyrical piece of writing Alan. A pleasure to read and I felt I was looking at Marc's work with you. Aware all the time of the print of his blue horses hanging in my grandson's bedroom in Melbourne. (I thought I might copy a part of your writing and read it to him.) I thought your questions as to why we go to museums and what it brings up in us, is a good one and it seems you answered it too. Just to convey what you did expressed the inner space and resonance you felt with the shape and colour, the textures and lines that drew you up and out into a sense of well being and asethetic delight. It has been a 'trip' to take this trip with you both. I am looking forward to exploring Kos one day and to hearing more about it. With love and travel safely home Serena
